As the shutdown continues, more and more airports are seeing shortages in air traffic controllers. As the crisis continues, the Trump administration is warning that Americans may experience flight delays.

U.S. airports reported more than 20 incidents of air traffic controller shortages on Saturday, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said, in the latest sign of the government shutdown’s impact.
Some 13,000 air traffic controllers and about 50,000 Transportation Security Administration officers must work even if they are not being paid during the shutdown, which started on October 1 as lawmakers deadlocked over the federal budget.
The Trump administration has warned that flight disruptions will increase as controllers miss their first full paycheck on Tuesday.
Secretary Duffy told Fox News on Sunday that the Federal Aviation Administration had 22 “triggers” that indicated shortages of air traffic controllers. The Secretary called this “a sign that the controllers are wearing thin.”
The Daily Wire notes there were reportedly 5,300 flight delays on Saturday and over 2,500 delays by noon on Sunday. And with no end in sight for the government shutdown, Secretary Duffy says there will likely be more controller shortages, leading to more flight delays and cancellations.
According to the Daily Wire, today would be air traffic controllers’ “first pay period solely for work in October.” With the shutdown, however, controllers won’t be paid, meaning many will look for other options. Secretary Duffy noted that many are taking second jobs and looking for other sources of income. This has left the industry and airports across the nation in the lurch, exasperating shortages that already existed before the shutdown.
As the shutdown continues, more and more industries and more and more families are struggling. Let’s pray for a swift, God-honoring end to this crisis!

Father, I pray for an end of this government shutdown, but I also pray we would not go back to the spending the Democrats demand. Open their eyes and their minds to truth that they may vote for the CR. May they no longer hold to their thought of leverage but see what is really happening. Open their hearts and minds to you and Jesus. And for those who are being harmed by the shutdown, may they feel your presence and your provision.

I am having trouble understanding this.
Dear Lord,
My friend and I are traveling this coming Saturday November 1st. Please be before, with and after us in all this flights. Arrange for either the shutdown to stop or for air controllers to receive payment in way way or another. I pray that the Democrats that are Christians and responsible see how Schumer requests are not benefiting Americans at all.

How can we continue to let elected officials hold our nation hostage? We PAY them to make decisions for the GOOD of our nation, NOT their own political agenda. We ask again that you change the hearts of the Senators – to vote YOUR way – or REMOVE them in whatever way YOU deem best – in Jesus’ name!

This is another example of why more industries should be privatized.
Too much reliance on government for necessary services leads to this kind of consequence, and while standards and regulations are necessary for safety, government funding is not.
Let’s get creative and find a way to pay for these services that does not involve tax dollars, or government permission.
Market place competition leads to excellence, while dependence on government payouts often leads to complacency.
As a country, we need better solutions.
My question is – why are congressional representatives and senators getting paid during this time? they are not essential – air traffic controllers are! reminds me of during covid – many workers in many professions had to get the “vaccine” in order to continue working BUT those in congress were exempt from this rule they made for others – they could continue to show up for work and get paid without getting the vaccine.
I am thankful that I can trust my faithful Creator who is sovereign over the affairs of men because I sure don’t trust my government. Although I am instructed to pray for those in positions of power “so that we may lead quiet and peaceful lives” – so I had better stop complaining and devote that time to prayer! Lord, I pray that this shutdown of our government will end quickly. It is not fair that people have to forego their paychecks because of the political games that are being played in Washington. Some type of emergency stopgap bill needs to be put in place. I’ve been in aviation for 26 years. Not a long time but long enough to know and have seen a LOT. Some things are reported. Most are not. I have made comments on EWR airport and the massive shortage at that airport. It’s been that way for years. Long before the shutdown. Prayer Warriors are always praying for safe air transportation. The prayers are needed. I love my President and he is doing a great job. It will take so much “unwinding” for our Airports. It is the main mode of transportation. Reports of “people wearing thin” makes people apprehensive. These people are still flying and it’s the Airport employees who have to deal with the fear of people and de-escalate situations. So continue to pray and report positive!
