I Prayed have prayed
Dear Lord, we pray for the hearts and minds of all people to softened toward Your people. Help Christians in particular to understand Your deep love for Your people and Your land.
Reading Time: 6 minutes

As Christians, we should mourn the suffering of the Palestinian people. We should not, however, mourn at the expense of Israel.

From The Christian Post. Before Israel launched its attack on Hamas terrorists in response to their barbaric, murderous acts, I put out a call to pray for the people of Gaza, knowing that many innocent civilians would lose their lives. Since then, I have been in meetings with other Christians where we prayed for the protection of Gazan civilians and for the IDF to use wisdom and restraint in their rightful attempts to eradicate Hamas.

Who is praying on the wall?

Many other Christian leaders I know, all of them pro-Israel, have expressed similar sentiments, and when I preached on October 8th on sharing God’s pain, I mentioned His pain for the suffering Palestinians as well.

As followers of Jesus, we should care about all those who are suffering right now, regardless of whether they are Muslim or Jewish or Christian, Palestinian or Israeli or other.

At the same time, we must categorically rebuke those who make false accusations against Israel, repeating standard antisemitic tropes and peddling libelous media reports, especially when they do so in the name of Jesus.

I’m speaking here of, “A Call to Repentance: An Open Letter from Palestinian Christians to Western Church Leaders and Theologians,” published by Palestinian Christian leaders and calling for Christian leaders in the west to repent of their one-sided support of Israel. Some of the contents of the letter are truly revolting.

First, in the midst of constant references to Palestinian suffering, there is not a single word about the butchering of more than 1,300 Israelis by Hamas, other than statements like, “We come alongside fellow Christians in condemning all attacks on civilians, especially defenseless families and children.”

So, despite 17 references to “Israel” in their letter, they do not say one word about the butchered Israeli children. Not one.

Not one word about the families burned alive. Not one.

Not one word about the women raped and tortured. Not one.

Not one word about the babies slaughtered in their cribs — or worse still, decapitated. Not one.

Not one word about the Holocaust survivors executed in cold blood. Not one.

Not one word about the taking of more than 200 hostages, including babies and the elderly. Not one.

This is reprehensible and immoral. It is spitting in the face of the One they profess as Lord. And it is inexcusable.

Second, there is not a single reference to Hamas. Not one.

There is not a single reference to terrorists or terrorism. Not one.

But there is a reason for the silence. They know full well that to say anything publicly against Hamas is not only to express disloyalty to the larger Palestinian cause. It is to put themselves in danger.

Where is the Christian courage and conviction? Where is the prophetic rebuke of terrorism? How can these brothers and sisters, in the name of morality and justice, fail to rebuke barbaric acts that put ISIS to shame?

This was a challenge I gave them directly when I spoke at their Christ at the Checkpoint conference in 2018. Sadly, rather than do the right thing, they have been silent in the face of evil. (And note carefully in my address that I began my comments with tears, expressing my pain for the suffering of my Palestinian brothers and sisters.)

Third, this open letter repeats the libelous claims that Israel bombed a hospital and a church, referencing, “the heinous massacre at Al-Ahli Anglican-Baptist Hospital and the bombardment of the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Porphyrius which wiped out entire Palestinian Christian families.”

Again, it is deeply grievous that lives were lost, especially the friends and family members of some of the writers of the letter. We should all mourn with them.

But repeating lies will not bring those loved ones back.

Israel did not bomb the hospital. The casualties are 100% the result of a failed Palestinian Islamic Jihad missile, and even at that, the numbers have been cruelly exaggerated.

As for the Church, as verified by aerial footage provided by the IDF, the truth is that Israel was bombing a nearby building and was slightly off target, hitting a building near to the church, which then caused structural damage to part of the church building. What a contrast between this and the letter’s claim that this was an “atrocious Israeli bombardment of innocent civilians on October 19, 2023.”

As noted by the Open Source Intelligence Monitor, “Once again the Mainstream Media caused a Total Meltdown of People around the World last night who thought that Israel had Purposefully Bombed a 1,000-Year-Old Church which was being used as a Shelter by Palestinian-Christians; how quickly everyone seems to forget that Hamas is known to place their Launch Sites and Arms Stockpiles near or inside Churches, School, Hospitals, and Residential Buildings so when they get Damaged by the Cross-Fire or Debris, like what happened here, they can make the IDF seem like the Villain.”

For this open Christian letter to repeat these libels is to partner with falsehood and to further demonize Israel. That is wicked in God’s sight.

Fourth, the letter repeats standard anti-Israel, even antisemitic tropes, including references to “the ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestine, and the oppressive and racist military occupation that constitutes the crime of apartheid.”

The letter even provides a tacit justification of the Hamas atrocities when speaking of “the root causes of this war: Israel’s systemic oppression of the Palestinians over the last 75 years since the Nakba.” Do these writers even believe Israel has a right to exist?

More specifically, the letter speaks of “Israel’s cruel blockade of Gaza for the last 17 years has turned the 365-square-kilometer Strip into an open-air prison for more than two million Palestinians — 70% of whom belong to families displaced during the Nakba — who are denied their basic human rights. The brutal and hopeless living conditions in Gaza under Israel’s iron fist have regrettably emboldened extreme voices of some Palestinian groups to resort to militancy and violence as a response to oppression and despair.”

So, the butchers, the barbarians, the cold-blooded, demented Hamas executioners were simply “extreme voices” who were “regrettably emboldened” by Israel’s evil actions. Such words are a stench in the nostrils of our Lord and a defilement of the names of the dead.

And why is there no mention of the reason for the blockade, namely, that the people of Gaza elected Hamas, which is sworn to the destruction of the Jewish people in the Land, as their leaders in 2006? Hamas is a cousin to ISIS and Al-Qaeda, a radical Islamic death cult bent on murdering Jews. Yet Israel is guilty of protecting its borders against these terrorists? And concerned Christians are rebuking Israel for doing this?

And where is there even a passing reference to the fact that Israel has been in an existential battle for survival since the UN Partition Plan was announced in 1947, living under constant threat from surrounding, hostile, Muslim nations? There is none.

But the letter doesn’t stop here. It repeats other, inaccurate, but now standard leftwing tropes, comparing the return of the Jewish people to their ancient homeland with “entrenched colonial discourse that has weaponized the Bible to justify the ethnic cleansing of indigenous peoples in the Americas, Oceania, and elsewhere, the slavery of Africans and the transatlantic slave trade, and decades of apartheid in South Africa.”

As a colleague of mine commented after reading the letter, “Sounds like decolonization and liberation theology.”

To be sure, I have said and will continue to say that: 1. We should pray for and work towards a just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for the good of all those involved.

2. Where Israel acts wrongly, as friends of Israel, we should call the leadership to account. As I stated in my 2018 message, “I am not here to defend all the actions of the Israeli government or to defend the behavior of all Israelis or to whitewash Jewish failings. As a Jewish follower of Jesus, I am more than aware of my people’s shortcomings.”

3. The shedding of innocent Palestinian blood is just as grievous as the shedding of innocent Israeli blood, and as followers of Jesus, we should mourn with those who mourn. Right now, that includes the Palestinian people too.

As I posted on October 9, “Tragically, many innocent Palestinians will suffer terribly in the days to come, including women and children. That should matter to us as human beings, let alone as followers of Jesus … So, yes, the suffering of Palestinians is as grievous as the suffering of Israelis.”

Right now, I grieve for the pain of the people of Gaza, along with their brothers and sisters in the West Bank (ancient Judea and Samaria). Their suffering is deep, and their losses are massive.  And, tragically, this is only the beginning of the story, as Israel has no moral choice but to remove Hamas from power and cripple its genocidal goals. Yet, ironically, Christians living in Israel under the supposedly monstrous Jewish leadership have far more liberty and rights than do the Christians living in Gaza.

Finally, while the letter says that Christian siding with Israel has hurt our Christian witness, the other side of the coin is that the Jewish people in Israel and worldwide have been deeply moved by this Christian support, which is going a long way to helping undo the terrible history of “Christian” antisemitism. (For an Orthodox rabbi in Israel saying this very thing, go here.)

I appeal, then, to the writers and signers of this open letter: please reconsider your words, please speak up on behalf of the Israeli victims, please rebuke the murderous terrorists by name, and please present a truthful picture to the world.

We want to stand with you. We want to stand for justice. We want to show solidarity as brothers and sisters in Jesus.

But we cannot partner with falsehoods or double standards or libels.

In the name of our Lord, I appeal to you to repent of this deeply flawed call to repentance so that together, we can pursue righteousness, goodness, equity, and mercy.

Share your prayers for the Israeli and Palestinian people below.

Yes, there is a problem with Palestinian “Christians”. I remember listening to a Christian radio program some years ago guesting an Evangelist who was from Palestine. He a was very bitter about leaving Palestine in anticipation of the 1948 war, and apparently his father lost his leg from a land mine. They did not recover their property after the war. The man broke down in angry tears over how “Christians support Jews over their Christian brothers!”

Sorry, pal, but sometimes (more often than SHOULD be) “Christians” do things the rest of us are appalled at. While ALL hate is sin, antisemitism is particularly Satanic. The Red Dragon (Sat an) pursues the Woman Clothed With the Sun (who is not Mary, but Israel). When you persecute the Jews, you are helping the Red Dragon (Satan).

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Go I say, place your hands upon the Western Wall, close your eyes and pray. See what God shows you.
Until you have walked their streets, what you say is hearsay, tales of others repeated. Go See. Go walk that ground and pray.

Dear Lord,
Let us not catch this spirit of brother fighting brother. This is what God says, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem”.

It is prayer for peace needed for Israel. We must trust that God will lead Israel toward ultimate peace and that God will protect His people. Remember they do not recognize their Messiah yet and God will use whatever He wills to not only protect Israel but save them. I trust God is at work here toward this ultimate end. And salvation for Palestine.as they may become a sheep nation!

The same for the conflict between Ukanine and Russia who are blood brothers. We must pray for peace to come through reconciliation that comes only through Jesus’s intervention as He is equally concerned for these nations.
There is a time for war and a time for peace. His ways are beyond our understanding. Praise His sovereignty among the nations!

Pray, trust God and refrain
from judgement and arguement. The battle is the Lord’s. He is always good.

🛑Jack Hibbs’ “Israel: What’s next?” video teaching informs and explains the false narrative of Israel as occupiers as well as many other points challenging the foolish stance of the self-identifying Palestine Christians. He takes God’s word Zion and identifies it within Judeo-Christianity perfectly.

🛑This letter is filled with un-Biblical claims repeating the wicked words of the Islamic pro-death cult and its endless rogue terrorists groups.
🛑This letter is filled with opposition to God’s word sounding more like a geopolitical stance of misinformation and historical lies.
🛑More concerning is the finances given to these Christian Palestinians. Given this letter, they sound as if they would donate to Hamas.

🙏🏻Abba, as Your children, we discern Your Truth from Your Word and this letter from Palestinian Christians does not represent what has been written in Your Bible or through the Holy Spirit. You have warned us that under no circumstances do we as Your children go against Your Israel. And we know You have given Israel back to Your chosen people the Jews and we are to honor You by honoring Your miracle. With Your Biblical Worldview we are to defend Israel trusting in Your plan. We know the Islamic pro-death cult fills people with the anti-Christ spirit and we pray for the spiritual deliverance and protection over our Christian brotherhood worldwide especially given this anti-Christ filled letter from the Palestinian Christians. In the name of our Jewish Messiah, Jesus Christ, Thy will be done in all of Israel’s original borders when You brought the Israelites into The Promised Land, Amen.

Just found an interesting note in my Bible re: Romans 12:14-21 which should be informing our intercession. Dr. Brown seems to be an example of what is being encouraged in this passage – he has wept with those who weep – whether Israeli or the civilians of Gaza. What he is calling for is not revenge, but a righteous response to the evil attack of hamas. In vs. 19 it states, “Never seek revenge, my friends; instead, leave that to God’s anger; for in the Tanakh it is written, ‘YHVH says, ‘Vengeance is my responsibility; I will repay (quote of Deut 32:41).'” If you think that you can simply pass along to God your desire for revenge, let me give you the correct understanding of this Hebrew word “nakah”, which is translated vengeance . It is ‘the executive exercise of power by the highest legitimate authority for protection of his subjects’ – not revenge. He is not full of revenge, but He is just, and He will exercise His power to protect His people – as He should as the Righteous King over all the earth!

The same was true in Germany. Supposed “Christians” turned a blind eye to the slaughter of Jews in there community. In fact, supposed “Christians” turned a blind eye to slavery. William Wilberforce was courageous as was Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
We in America who have had the entire Bible for quite a long time should be the most courageous and fearless people on the planet if we truly believed what is written. Sadly most of us are whimps. But as true believers in communist former Soviet Union persecution will weed out the true from the false. May we strive to be more like Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand.

One more thing – the Catholic Church has tried to destroy Israel since it was founded. They actually protect ALL haters and Nazis seeking to destroy Israel and the Jewish people. Simply learn about church history – it’s all there! Israel and the Jews have no greater enemy than the Catholic Church. Learn WWII history – the Pope colluded with Hitler!

Truth is that these so-called Palestinian “Christians” are really Catholics who throughout the 2000 years of church history have tortured, killed, beheaded, burned to death and slaughtered anyone who even read the Bible. I’m amazed at the ignorance of this article – which actually brushes over the truth – Catholics are NOT CHRISTIAN – they are ROMAN CATHOLIC and pledge more allegiance to the perverted Pope, than actually trusting solely in Jesus Christ!

Thank you, brother Michael, for speaking the truth in love!
The possibilities regarding the true origin of this ‘letter’ are numerous – letter actually written by Hamas; letter written under severe duress by ‘Christians’; letter written by those who claim to be ‘Christians’ but who are not; letter written by ??? We need to be aware that we are living in a time when we truly cannot even believe what we see on our electronic devices – consider AI, PhotoShop, etc.. So ‘seeing is believing’ is not true now, if it ever was. The need for spiritual discernment is paramount in this day, and it only comes in submission to Holy Spirit and the Word of God.
I found it interesting that in the ICEJ prayer call this morning, our attention was called to 2 Thessalonians 2, and in it Paul mentions ‘a letter’. It is defined as “a letter supposedly from us” in this case “claiming that the Day of the LORD has already come”. False narratives in the name of a trusted source, are not new. He was calling them, and though he was unaware of it, he was calling us to not “let anyone deceive you in any way”. Vs. 9-10 helps define who it is that will fall prey to deception – “. . . those who are headed for destruction because they would not receive the love of the truth that could have saved them.” Vs. 12 – “The result will be that all who have not believed the truth, but have taken their pleasure in wickedness, will be condemned.”
When we do not receive “the love of the truth” – Yeshua is Truth – that has the power to save us, we will be condemned. I encourage you to read 2 Thess. for yourselves.
Abba, ultimately – this situation is an opportunity to align with You by receiving the love of the truth – as individuals, as the ekklesia, as nations. In aligning with You and the truth of Your Holy Word, we will be blessed. In not aligning, we bring judgement upon ourselves – as individuals, as the ekklesia, as nations. I remember, I Pet. 4:17-18 – “For the time has come for the judgment to begin. It begins with the household of God; and if it starts with us, what will the outcome be for those who are disobeying God’s Good News? – ‘If the righteous is barely delivered, where will the ungodly and sinful end up?'” I cry out to You, on behalf of those who are considering where they stand in regard to Israel – please make Your will known to them. As for me, I stand with Israel, I love Israel, and I am trusting Rom. 11:26 – “. . . and that it is in this way that all Israel will be saved” – as they cry out to their Messiah, “Baruch haba b’Shem Adonai.” Thank you for the privilege to stand with Israel.

Thank you so very much for your wise comment Mary Beth!
I read the letter which starts out sounding Christian but quickly devolves to the same hate speech lies that have been spewed for 75 years from anti-Semitic mouths and rancid captives hearts.
It could be from some true Christians too, Lord knows the people of Gaza have been victims of Hamas too, and yes, Hamas is responsible for every one of Israel’s retaliatory strikes…every bit as much as our enemies are responsible for our REASONABLE self defenses…..
I KNOW Poppa God is using this awful time of violence for good, have been hearing stories from Gaza of Christians helping others in Messiah Jesus name, of the Gospel being preached and taught and BELIEVED, in growing numbers…but I hope all believers caught in the turmoil there feel The Lord’s love and tender care, HE is surely weeping over every human soul’s suffering.
BUT I hope everyone will begin to understand this, The apple of God’s eye has grown but not changed, so beware poking HIS people. HE sees and does not sleep, nor does HE ‘play’. People of God, pray HIS will be done on earth as it is in heaven. And prepare to be amazed! Fill your lamp too, to be ready!!!

It always amaze s me that the Terrorist is never held accountable

I pray for the people abused by their own governments whether Palestinian or Russian o r Chinese or African

It’s difficult to see references to Chtistianotu when the persecution within usually makes it merely a label

Satan Co uses his warfare against God’s people. He will use Christians against other Christians and his chosen people, Israel. I think Palestinians, no matter their religion, are bombarded by Hamas rhetoric against Israel. They do not know the truth and they forget our Lord Jesus is a Jew. He is the promised one from the line of Judah and David. Modern Gaza is the land of Judah given to the Palestinians by Israel. Lest they forget. May God have mercy on them as they see truth and seek repentance. Praying for a change of heart.

We KNOW that anything said will be believed by someone. The “someones” of the world now number at 8.1 billion and by the second, that number is growing exponentially.

We KNOW Adonai (the Lord, Jehovah, the Eternal, Yahweh, HaSherm…)hates lying, the spreading of discord (arguments, conflict, contention, discord, dissension, strife…)

John 4:21-24 Jesus told the Samaritan woman, “Believe Me, an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know. We worship what we do know, because salvation is from the Jews. But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship Him. God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

John 6:29 Jesus replied, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.”

John 8: 44 “You belong to your father, the devil,…. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.”

Dear Lord and God, I worship You, the Triune God, The God of Israel, The God of Salvation. I worship You, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. Try as I may, I can NEVER encapsulate You in my thoughts and reasoning so I simply believe Your Word, every ONE. You say salvation is from the Jews. I believe. You say true worship is spirit and truth. I believe. You say our work is to believe in You, the One sent by God, Your Father. I believe.
I pray You will empower us to know Your Word and to know You Jesus, the Messiah of all people, thanks to the Jews. Father, protect us from the evil one while YOU break us, melt us, mold us, fill us…Spirit of the Living God, fall fresh on us who believe and upon those who have yet to surrender. Amen

Many people claim to be Christian but are truly not Christ followers. Walking an aisle and repeating words said by a minister or a missionary does not truly let you enter the Kingdom of God. If your heart is not changed and renewed, you are still serving the devil. Here in the US, many hundreds of thousands of people claim to be “Christian”, simply because they perhaps attended a church once or twice, or simply because the USA is identified as a Christian nation, so they claim to be Christian. So sad that so many “Christians” will be left in the churches after the true Christians will be raptured away.

I’m glad that YOU and others like you will NOT be the judges of who is, and who is not, a Christian. GOD is the Judge, with Jesus Christ sitting at the right hand of the Father, and we need to seek the lost and spread the Gospel! Those that wish to judge whether someone is “really saved” usually are deluded thinking their works prove they are saved – born again! Nothing is further from the truth!
Calvinism, Catholicism, all cults and most so-called Evangelical churches today are simply preaching WORKS! Wonderful Grace of Jesus reaches me! Read your Bible, realize that GRACE THROUGH FAITH is all that He requires!

Not sure what you think is wrong with turning your heart to God and becoming a Christ follower. Perhaps you have been mislead by denominations who think they will get to Heaven by doing good works. It is obvious that you have had a bad experience with a “so-called Evangelical church” that taught that by works we would get to Heaven. You are right that this is nothing is further from the truth! I do read my Bible daily and thank God that He has shed His grace on me – grace that I certainly do not deserve, but by the shed blood of Jesus, I am a partaker of.

Do you think it was truly from the churches? I hope and pray that someone from Hamas wasn’t pointing a gun to their heads to write what they did! How awful if so! Lord, be with all Christians and innocent people in Israel and Gaza. Be with Your people Israel so they will first find You Jesus as their mighty Messiah and then win this war with the mighty Victory that You have already obtained for them!! Bring miracles dear Jesus! Be with our world right now, we need You so!
In Jesus Name, and BY HIS NAME we pray. Amen.
