Government should be a means of empowerment, not dependency, as well as a safety net. As President Trump discusses building America’s workforce, public housing has a role in that discussion. Those who receive housing assistance must have a path toward jobs, wealth creation and economic improvement. We must remove attitudes, regulations, policies and programs that reinforce dependence.
There will be resistance. There is a culture that, step-by-step, wants to craft dependence, removing individual hope and crushing responsibility….
We have the means to help: At the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), we are working to lift many of the barriers to employment for people in public housing….
Companies have identified thousands of unfilled jobs in our biggest cities. These are good, well-paying jobs in technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, construction and elsewhere.
Why do they remain unfilled? In some cases, because the job skills are not available….
So we must go beyond current efforts….
We must also involve more local businesses in our efforts, opening doors and minds. Local governments could become involved, creating a more inviting employment environment through changes in regulations and school curriculum.
Everyone has a role, helping those who want a path out of assistance to see ahead and find the means for independence. We also need public housing authorities to make more of an effort to match people and jobs….
HUD’s Section 3 program has room for improvement, but there are signs of progress and best practices that need to be shared and adopted. We have found that some public housing authorities have been very vigorous….
Section 3 has been the law since 1968, and it continues to demonstrate how public housing can provide more than just shelter. We must still help society’s most vulnerable, with humanity, concern and care…. (Excerpts from Ben Carson’s article in the Washington Times, A path out of poverty.)

Lord I pray Ben Carson will be blessed in his efforts to help our poor in America out of the poverty trap. Enlighten the minds and spirits of each individual who is unmotivated and hopeless in subsidized housing, especially those trying to raise children. Lord, send a mighty binding spirit upon the greedy business people who profit off this population group unscrupulously through games of chance, drugs, junk food, shoddy merchandise, and anything occult. Enlighten the people, Lord and draw us all to Holiness by the lifting up of your almighty Name, Dear Jesus!!
Father, we lift up Ben Carson to You. We ask that You endow him with wisdom to know what to do and strength to fulfill his tasks and courage to see things through and stand strong in the face of opposition and protection from the evil one and from those who grumble and complain just to grumble and complain. Your will be done in our country. Turn our hearts to You. In Jesus name.

CARSON, FOR WISDOM POWER AND STRENGTH FOR YOU AS YOU WORK TO ACHIEVE THIS NOBLE TASK. MAY ALL IN GOVERNMENT AND THE POPULACE CO-OPERATE WITH YOU AND YOUR IDEAS TO BRING ABOUT PROGRESS FOR ALL WHO NEED IT. MAY GOD BLESS YOU.
My husband worked in as a counselor in a mission for a well known religious organization for many years. There are homeless people who do not want to work, but they are not the majority. Most homeless people have drug, alcohol or mental problems that keep them from having stable jobs.
Those who truly want to work are hindered because they don’t have a permanent address, or phone. These people fall through the cracks because they are not employable in the eyes of most business owners.
God does hear the prayers of the poor. This move I hope true help the poor and not increase homeless people on the street because of the many holes, gaps and “nice sounding missions that its unorganized and undeveloped infrastructure gives no real hope for upwardness but just “selling a dream”. Its so easy to speak of a plan when you havent though about the shoes of the unemployed, uneducated, etc. The focus on the few bad apples when there is millions in the government money that is ill used by the wealthy, policians. Ultimately Lord, You know all things and all hearts. You are Americans solution. Have your way Lord, in Jesus name!
Lord God, thank you for Ben Carson. I pray for continued success for our brother, that you would give him your wisdom. I pray for hope found in you Lord, for all who are in the grips of poverty and hopelessness. I pray for great success for these incentives to break the cycle of dependence.

I thank God for His movement in America that is bringing much needed change in our over bloated government and bureaucracy. So many areas of our culture have been paralyzed, demoralized and propagandized by too much dependency on government programs that tend to get in the way of personal growth and limit the ability for people to move up and out of the system that traps them and into healthy thriving communities. I pray for continued strong leadership that is not only God centered but is showing some doubters that God can do all things if we get out of His way. I pray for the manmade government barriers and obstacles that impede so many from reaching their full potential to be removed and for the people themselves to find the hope and strength that is offered when true light is given the place to shine and point the way out. We have a Mighty and Wonderful God who loves the whole world and wants all people to know and trust Him. I think God for the mighty men and women He has put in place in our own nation, states and cities that are humbling themselves, seeking His Face, praying, and repenting. We all can do the same. God will hear us and He will keep His promise to forgive us and heal our land. I thank you Lord for Your movement in our nation at such a time as this. God Bless America and have mercy on us.
