IFA urges intercessors to pray and act. We have long encouraged Christians to engage in civic action. Yes, pray, because without prayer, action is in vain. But also act–support those who are running for office, become informed and engaged, run for local office. This article by IFA’s newest contributing writer, Mavourene Robinson, is a call to action. She focuses on Maryland, but in many ways it applies to all of us. Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Many of us have been contending for our nation and our State for many years.  Some quite a bit longer than I have been.  For example, while attending the March for Life 2022 I met wonderful men and women who have been battling against the pro-abortion industry since 1973, when our Supreme Court reinterpreted our Constitution and legalized the killing of pre-born babies.  For some, this amounts to almost fifty years of faith-filled prayer and intercession!  I am convinced that their rewards will be great in heaven.

Along with those of us on the prayer and intercession wall to destroy the abortion industry, others have battled in the courts, have not strayed from teaching the truth in education, and have not swapped their creative gifting for the promise of riches in media, arts, and entertainment.  The same can be said about those who have not budged from our constitutional rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness or America’s foundation of capitalism. It is hard to imagine how much more depraved things would be, were it not for the men and women who stood strong.  Then there is that one mountain of government.  We have prayed, interceded, and stood watch. Some have served in elected and appointed offices without compromise.  However, the Church has been a bit more reluctant, dare I say intimidated, to step into the ring.  Unfortunately, this has allowed giants to occupy our God-given territory.

I believe that God is giving His people our opportunity to take this mountain in 2022, unlike any time many of us have experienced in our lifetimes.  And where we have talked about blue waves and red waves referring to the Democrat Party and Republican Party respectively, 2022 is the Church’s opportunity for a Gospel Wave.  To that end, I and other regular church folks in my county have decided to run for public office this year.  At this point, there are less than a handful of us. We are a ragtag group with little or no political campaign experience, no inside connections, and very little money.  Despite those things, we are all also oddly at peace with what is ahead. We know that this is God’s mission and that He will fight the battle for us.

We need YOU to join our mission.  Across our State, many offices will once again be awarded to those who hate God, murder babies, and who want to dismantle the foundations of America, uncontested.  Think about that!  What would have happened if David did not step forward against Goliath?  So, today I am asking and praying that you consider stepping into the ring with us.  If not you, will you support your spouse, your adult children, or grandchildren should they decide to accept this humble call to the battlefield?  Consider your sphere of influence.  Is there anyone, even your Pastor, who stands for truth and needs only one member of their church to encourage and support them with their decision to run for office? (Editor’s note: Doesn’t this apply to many states? Does it sound like your state? Your community?)

This battle is about whose report we will believe. This battle is about this being Maryland’s Esther moment.  This battle is about what I recently heard in prayer, ‘The election is about what your lives will be in America.  The Gospel is about what your lives will be in eternity.’ This stand is about righteousness returning to Maryland so we the people can rejoice.

Time is critical because candidates must file to run by 9 pm, April 15, 2022.  If you will run for office in your District at either the Town/City/County, State, or Federal, my team will commit to training you on how to complete the paperwork by the March 22^nd deadline.  Once filed as official candidates, we will form a Gospel Wave Coalition of sorts to help one another, sharing resources and supporting one another the entire way.  In all of these things, many of us will be learning together, as we take each step forward.

On September 6, 2021, during a prayer and repentance gathering on the site where Harriet Tubman escaped to freedom, God whispered these words to me about Maryland, “Call it Free State.” I am convinced that we are well able to defeat the giants in the land. If we will only say “Yes,” God will give us the strategy, protection, and provision to take this mountain.  If you have ever felt prompted before, but thought yourself unqualified for any reason, this might just be your Esther moment.
