I Prayed have prayed
Dear Lord, let your will be done in these coming elections. Allow us to remain steadfast in trusting you. Preserve us from evil, and let your wisdom guide us and guide the hearts of our leaders. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Reading Time: 3 minutes

National tension is increasing as Election Day draws near, and with this tension, fear tends to set in our hearts and minds. Contentious elections are typical for American history, but this coming election is unusually pivotal due to our current state of affairs and the serious matters that are at stake.

Who is praying on the wall?

In times like these, anxiety caused by uncertainty is only uprooted by prayer. The Bible says that casting our anxieties on Jesus is what frees us from bearing the heaviness of the world’s affairs on our own. Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved (Psalm 55:22 ESV).

With that in mind, here are five prayers that Christians can use to cut through all the noise and promote God’s peace before, during, and after Election Day.

  1. Pray that the Lord’s will be done in this election.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5 ESV).

Above all things, the body of Christ is meant to be a vessel for God’s will on earth. As the above scripture says, leaning on the machinations of man is futile. God is an “everlasting rock” (Isaiah 26:4) and nothing else compares to Him. When Election Day comes, pray for God’s will above our own. Pray for the will of men to be supplanted by the will of God, and for the will of Satan to be ruined.

  1. Pray for peace and nonviolence across the nation.

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace (Romans 8:6 ESV).

Satan thrives from discord, and with national tensions as high as they are, he wants nothing more than for violence to break out during and after the elections. In light of this, pray for the fruit of the Spirit to be manifest in our lives. Pray for peace and safety to abound in our neighborhoods and for the example of Jesus to inspire nonviolence at all voting establishments.

  1. Pray for all of our leaders and candidates.

First of all then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way (1 Timothy 2:1-2 ESV).

All people are created in the image of God. The Church is called to pray and intercede for all to see the heart of Christ. This includes our leaders, enemies, persecutors, and people we wouldn’t vote for. No matter who they are, they are still made in the image of God. So when we pray for our country this election, we pray for the hearts and minds of our leaders and candidates, and their families, so that they could be exposed to God’s Word and come to have a relationship with Him.

  1. Pray for integrity in our elections.

Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are His delight (Proverbs 12:22 ESV).

Trust in election results have been increasingly controversial in recent years. Everything from accusations of foreign collusion to suspicions of internal rigging have left the American public feeling wary about what is true and what is not. Let us pray for the truth to abound in these elections, and that all votes and electoral duties will be handled with integrity.

  1. Pray for unity within the church.

Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind (1 Peter 3:8 ESV).

Lastly, let us pray for the Body of Christ. Unity within the Church is vital for furthering God’s kingdom in the world. This is especially true now, when so much disunity and strife threatens to compromise the nation. As Election Day draws near, pray for the Church to truly be the Church, and for Christians to be unified in understanding God’s will for America.

“Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless, but sin overthrows the wicked…..The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked will be put out.” Proverbs 13: 6,9. Thank You LORD JESUS that You are all powerful and can overthrow those American politicians who are walking in sin and unrighteousness. May we be faithful in repentance and prayer as we seek Your Face to bring Your Truth and Will for this pivotal election season. Prayers for Your abundant blessings for T. K. as he ministers Your Truth to his peers. May blind eyes see and deaf ears hear and understand Your Holiness & Righteousness. In JESUS’ Name. Amen.

Oh Lord God I pray for the Christians who believe the lie that their vote probably won’t count because it will be changed anyway. Change their minds Lord with the thought that You are Mighty God and will protect their vote! You are Sovereign God! It is their part to get out and vote and leave the outcome to You!

Yes and amen, T. K.! We do cry out that Your will be done, Lord. We pray for peace and safety to abound, for the salvation of the lost, and election integrity. Please establish Godly unity in the body of Christ – not a counterfeit unity reached through compromise – but a unity that comes by each one aligning with You, Your Truth and Your character. That is the unity that You will bless!
