I Prayed have prayed
Father, I pray Your direction as Your people rebuild America's educational system, raise up the ancient ruins, and restore the places long devastated. Renew the ruined networks that have been devastated for generations. Isaiah 61:4
Reading Time: 5 minutes

Christian parents now must consider the discrepancy between what they, as parents, want for their children, and the outcomes the public school desires. With trust in the public school system either destroyed or severely damaged, parents can no longer entrust the children they love to a school system that teaches them to hate God and transforms them into pro Marxists.

Maybe their school district will follow the guidelines of New York City Schools, as they enlist curriculum writers to develop new teaching units to include such themes as “systemic racism,” “police brutality,” and “white privilege.”

If President Trump and Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos have their way, in a few short weeks, children will return to their neighborhood public schools. Caring parents must make crucial decisions during this interim period, not only about the dangers of contact exposure to coronavirus but also about the possibility of entering a hostile learning environment.

In any reentry into the public school system, here are a few myths that need to be exposed:

Myth #1: Public schools, founded on Christian Principles, can be reformed.

Public Schools supported by taxpayer money first appeared in the late 1830s. These schools were not founded on Christian principles, but rather on the principles of universalism. Horace Mann, now known as the Father of Public Education, made a campaign promise to his most ardent supporters, the Harvard, Unitarian, elite, during his run for the Massachusetts legislature in 1827.  Mann promised to work to persuade the government to underwrite the cost of public schools. He fulfilled his promise.

Horace Mann rejected the notion of original sin and embraced the belief that man was innately good and could become a better person through education. This is seen in today’s progressives who believe in the inherent goodness of man and reject the flawed nature of man. He, and his colleagues, had great disdain for the Calvinists of his day and wanted to separate children from what he felt was an extreme religious arm of the church.

As much Mann hated the church, he equally liked Christian teachers for their care of the children and enduring work ethic. He particularly liked women teachers who worked long hours under harsh conditions for little pay. The only reason people remember public schools being Christian is because of the dedication of teachers to consider teaching as a mission field, an attitude that prevailed until the late 1950s.

The public schools Mann created became the seedbed for the new socialists thought brought from Germany in the late 1800s, which in turn, made possible the growth of socialism we presently witness full-grown in our schools.

Intercessors look at the roots of the tree to determine the fruit. Public school’s origin, founded on disdain for the Christian born again experience, has given us the public schools we have today. It might be time to dismantle the structure of an educational system that has proven defective and believe God for a new system that honors Him.

Myth #2: Online schooling will remove my child from public school influence.

Many parents searching for options for classroom attendance, look for viable alternatives. According to a recent USA Today Ipsos poll, 59%-36% say they would most likely enroll their children in an online school or opt for homeschooling. At this time, almost all public schools have or participate in an online school option. If a parent chooses to utilize the public school online option, there are significant snags. For one, the humanistic, socialistic, and sexual curriculum that feeds the children who sit in the desks in a physical building is the same curriculum feeding the child distance learning on the internet using public school curriculum. An astute parent will choose an alternative curriculum for online instruction.

Another significant issue parents experience when using online learning is the susceptibility of K-12 “school databases” to market pornography to school children.  The main school database, EBSCO, is the principal offender, other school databases face the same issue. One watchdog, the Christian Reformed Churches in Colorado, has done an excellent job of identifying the offenders. The US Department of Education is aware of the problem, and diligently works to disable the site access.

A good rule is to distance your student as far from the public school curriculum as possible.

Myth #3: The NEA doesn’t influence public schools. They are a labor union that lobbies for higher teacher salaries.

One cannot say enough about the evils of labor unions for educators and their negative influence on America’s public schools. Their primary interest is in numbers: to keep as many children in public school as possible. The higher the student headcount, the more teachers to pay union dues. The largest union, with almost 2.3 million members, the National Education Association (NEA) admittedly, does not care if your child learns or not. The NEA promotes abortions, birth control, sexuality training from birth to adult, Black Lives Matter, defunding the police, socialism, massive teacher strikes, etc. An attempt to take territory from the NEA, in their view, warrants the use of any Saul Alinsky tactic necessary. An openly adverse member suffers from slander, job termination, public accusations, and verbal attacks. They have enormous power over education. Any time a parent or organization opposes the NEA, spiritual warfare becomes intense.

In California, one of the largest labor unions is the Los Angeles Teachers Union, with 35,000 members. On July 11, 2020, the Los Angeles Teachers Union issued a list of conditions required to be in place before teachers returned to the classrooms for the fall semester. The demands reveal the true nature of the union. After stating their requirements for social distancing procedures and calling the United States a “profoundly racist, intensely unequal society,” their statements digressed to accusations against President Trump for being a racist. Their demands included defunding both the police and charter schools.

We stand at the brink of possible significant changes in public education. Our present system is in a state of entropy and needs a drastic restructure. Not since the 1830s has America experienced such an opportunity as we as believers have before us today. It will take the prayer of those with vision and faith to recreate a new educational structure in America. President Trump and Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos agree with those who believe education needs change. Let’s join our prayers and seek God for His hand in the formation of a new system of schools for America’s children.

Sorry this is SO late, but two things I’ve never understood throughout this whole situation are:

1. Why aren’t parents FLOCKING to private schools, charter schools and especially “K12” (another conservative alternative to public schools, and FREE in MANY states)? [Realizing cost is a major obstacle, WHY aren’t state legislatures AND Congressional representatives even thinking about mentioning legislation to address these options for their constituents (we, the little people)?]
2. WHY are parents so anxious for public schools to reopen? Or ARE they?? I’m SO glad I’ve never been a parent, but I sure see this as an escape window!!

Thanks, so much, in advance, for any insights to this matter.

Sincerely, respectfully and prayerfully, in Christ!

I was realizing as I was reading this, that my concern for the public schools and the students and staff within them had faded.

I think my mentality was, “I don’t have a horse in the race.” My children and grands are not in public school or I would be pulling them out of it. But my hear was reawakened to pray and do what I can for the welfare of children, parents and staff who are stuck in a God-less system.

Yes, Lord Jesus, have mercy! May our children be taught of the Lord and have Your great peace!

Lord I know schools are trying to reopen. But please intervene and do not allow them to continue as they were. I ask You to do a new work in America’s classrooms. Bring love hope and wisdom to our schools. Bring fresh ideas to implement an education simply based upon what is right and wrong. We all need Your help and intervention. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen

Christian Teacher’s are not the answer, once they are educated in the Liberal Colleges they are tainted with the same brush that has infected the public schools. Now a truly Christian Teacher does not belong to the Teacher’s union, and they don’t attend the constant cycle of School District continued education, which is really just reeducation to keep them all in line. Then you can always attend their various courses to learn how to indoctrinate their students. I know this because, I served on the Parent’s Advisory Board and the monthly meeting were held at the District
Offices that served the area school district’s. All right there for anyone to learn and see what a mountain of indoctrination there is to deal with.

Never question them about any of it is what we found, and your children will be targeted if you do. They stack all kinds of false and defamatory
information into it about your child and you too.

But then I’ve been trying to find out how it all works here for decades, and these are the things I’ve learned from personal experience.

Tru they definitely, do not like outspoken Christian parents here or in Oregon either. Most of the parents just go along and behave like cattle, even some that identified at Christian’s.

I’m happy to see this information here and hope to learn more about other experiences and ways to intercede on behalf of my Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren since they will soon have to enter in to this education system, and hopefully, with intercessory prayers of us all and a lot of work the Education System in America can be saved, and please God I pray be recreated so that future generations will learn to love our country, respect their elders and parents, and learn America’s true history.

I concur! Back in the 90’s I was a Christian activist trying to get sex Ed out of schools. They don’t want to hear from parents/community but that’s who’s supposed to decide what’s best for children. It became a liberal progressive bureaucracy. The only choice we have is to take our kids OUT of government schools.

Wonderful program this weekend on Fox about Charter Schools, and parents demanding vouchers to put their children in a school of their choice. As another believer that has been fighting within this system for change, I think it really looks like we can win this one finally, Praise the Lord!. Still more intercession needed till it becomes an absolute right granted to all parents and their children in America and in every State. God bless you, and keep on praying Cathy, it’s starting to happen.

Let us CLAIM PUBLIC EDUCATION BACK 2020

Father God, we thank that we can pray 24/7. Please forgive our sins as we forgive others who sins against us.
We pray Your protection over President Trump, AG William Barr, and Secretary Betsy DeVos as they fight this battle to stop the theft of our intellectual property, our freedom, and all ungodly influence over our nation. Lord, give them wisdom and also battle instructions. Let them know when and where to counterattack spies and thieves.
Father God, please give wisdom to Betsy DeVos to have a Task Force that will re write the curriculum of education from K12 to college that must include Bible Study Father God because that’s the only way that we little human can be a righteous adult human. Let Public schools, be re founded on Christian Principles,
You are a Law and Order God. Please let Betsy DeVos create a second task force that is in charge to dismantle the structure of an educational system that has proven defective and believe God for a new system that honors Him.
Father, In the Name of Jesus, we take our authority and tear down the ungodly structures of the National Education Association!
We stand on your word: A wise man attacks the city of the mighty and pulls down the stronghold in which they trust.
Lord, I pray that all school districts (grade to college) enjoy:
1. Academic to increase;
2. Violence to decrease and
3. Bold young Daniel to stand up and share the Gospel and be the influencer.
Students (from grade to college) moves to take over their school via prayer. Let them see the result so that they can grow in knowing that You’re there for them and that You answer prayer. All the glory belong to You, Father God.
Righteous Father, let Prayer be part of the school from grade to college.
Father, I’m still asking that the Bible be part of curriculum as a moral law study … How to get there I can’t think of how but I am confident that You can do it just because You can work miracle when it is necessary and this matter is important and necessary. Because the Bible is Humanity Manual to Life to guide human to life accordingly.
Righteous Father, let the 10 commandments be hanged in every classrooms in the USA per student request in 2020. Thank You, Holy Father for Your good will be done upon the future generations in the USA.
Pray over the possible changes (online schooling) and agree that only positive changes that benefit America, the students of this land, and the families of our nation will prevail.

May the amazing grace of Jesus Christ be upon all of us, Amen!

Praise You for Marion HS in Indiana achievement.

Father God, I ask for your divine intervention in our public school system in America. I pray for there to be more Christian teachers, as well as more input from Christian parents. I pray that the current curriculum be changed to have Godly values so that the humanistic agenda will not conflict with what our children are being taught in their Christian homes. In Jesus Name, amen.

    Dear Heavenly Father,
I pray for more Christian school board members and Christian school administrators. Help them to go into the fight to bring true Christian ideas and values back into each school district, each school and each classroom. Make them strong and able to stand against those who are like roaring lions and quiet the opposition. Since many of these positions are elected and appointed through elected officials, I pray for Christians will vote and encourage these officials and board members to make changes to bring true Christian values into the schools. Help them support student groups that pray and encourage fellow students to know Christ – to be open to groups like FCA and Child Evangelism Fellowship in helping students be true Daniels. May these students be empowered by Your Holy spirit and may they witness not just to fellow students but to their teachers that all may come to know Your saving grace. In Jesus name Amen.

Training up a child in the way he (or she) should go starts in the home. Children should be taught biblical and moral values at home. Oftentimes we are too dependent on teachers to do everything for our children but discipline them. Parents need to attend PTA Meetings, sit in on classes, and become more active. In times like these, we need to be more ‘hands on’. Don’t let anyone teach your children about sex and what the world says is acceptable. Make your voices heard! Stand up for what you know to be truth. Protect you children! Satan desires to have them to destroy them. Don’t let this happen. We have already seen that the government does nothing. Why should they? Look at the decisions and laws that are being passed. They don’t want to ‘offend’ anyone, but truth be told, we Christians are the ones that have to yield to unrighteousness. GOD HELP US, PLEASE!!! (2 Timothy 1:5).

Yes, I believe most of this article is true, but there is another side. As long as there are true believers still having a presence in the public school system, their influence can have an effect on others. I’m not saying that all is well with our childrens teachers, because many of them did not grow up in the faith. Then they went to college, and were taught by liberal professors. So, they probably will not see the problem with what is being accepted. If a family cannot afford a Christian school, or to stay home and homeschool, what is their option? There are no easy answers. Parents have to get involved, and have a say about what is taught. Like the objection to Common Core, parents do have power when they come together and fight back. Change is possible. With God all things are possible. And, we need more, not less of true believers in our schools.

Cathy, your comments are very true, but what if some parents have no alternative but to send their children to public school. I wish that the family unit was what it used to be. Two parents, children, a working father, and a stay at home mother who could homeschool. That has all changed. The schools have become daycare centers with education so that parents can work. The divorce rate has skyrocketed and the public schools have benefited. We can blame all of this on the enemy that has been working hard at destroying the family. Once this happens, and it has, we (not all) lose our way. But there is always a remnant that God uses to restore what was lost. Be blessed.

This disregard for what is righteous and holy starts at K and goes through the University system. I am doing research for a theology student (at a conservative Christian U) and unholy resources abound – in a SEMINARY!

I have to take a spiritual bath after I peruse articles that should not be in the curriculum.

Lord we petition you for the hearts and minds of our children, our young people, our college students, and our seminarians. The enemy reaches into these institutions and craftily coats lies with candy. Lord may we be vigilant in our prayers; may we be seeking your face – Always. Amen

I am a teacher and I must refute this article! There ARE districts that are run by godly leaders. I have always seen this and I have been teaching for over 20 years!
There are many ministers of God in our school systems! It is THE GREATEST mission field. It saddens me that we dwell on the negative and it will cause FEAR and make parents against teachers and public schools. You may be talking about large cities?
Many Christian teachers do not even use textbooks! There is always that 10% that make all teachers sound Marxist. If you could only see the classrooms I see! The love we have for our students-student that may only receive love from us at school. I am talking about principals, and administration that are have a mission from God to be Jesus to these children.
I am frustrated at how many are FALLING for the negative articles. Fear is on a rampage and it is a liar!
I for one and schools in KY are not among those written in this article.
Please be careful to not be ONE SIDED! That is dangerous-especially to our children. I pry you will pray about these kind of comments and always research to determine the other side. Besides if our Christian children are taken out of schools? Who will witness to those lost? Godly children are lights in the dark side of the world. As a sister I ask you -do you know any teachers personally? How about at your church? Your neighbors? In your community-are they like you said ? Marxist representatives? I would love to see your interviews and research you based this article on.
I must refute this article-In the name of Jesus! For the sake of the children stop causing fear in their parents!

In an ideal world… Unfortunately that is not where we find ourselves today. Teachers who do not use textbooks?? Sending our children to public school system So they might be a witness to the lost? That reminds me of the Bible verse “sacrificing your children to Baal. Parents are responsible for the education of their children. This is the best article I’ve seen! So the founder of the public education system in the 1800s craftily set about exactly where we are in a Marxist situation today. Yes something must be done and it will start with parents knowing the truth of what their children are being indoctrinated with. Good for you and good for the children you teach… As I said in the beginning, that would be an ideal world which we do not live in today.

Sacrificing to Baal? WOW! You see, that comment, is exactly what I am talking about. I will have to agree to disagree. I am a teacher, and you mentioned parents are responsible for the education of their children. Exactly. Then they must also recognize the TRUTH is that all the schools I see, and that is 20 years plus of teaching- including 4 different cities, and working as a substitute in various grade levels for 11 years- in many different schools- before full time teaching. I SEE the TRUTH first hand in schools. Where is the data for this article to imply MOST? Yes SOME schools but I disagree. I have witnessed the good in schools and I will speak out about it. If parents want the TRUTH then I am saying what I have lived, and teachers like me have lived, should be weighed into the article. I want parents to know that MOST teachers see teaching their children as their mission field.
The response I got back from the writer of the article said MOST teachers teach Marxism? Where is the data?
I must speak up, because I know first hand for over 20 years that schools are full of teachers on a mission. Now is our time-to stand and finish the race well. I will continue to remind parents that MOST teachers are placed exactly in their mission field for such a time as this! The public needs to know this. I just like to see some data before such a claim is made. Even if the textbooks try to teach false doctrine? That is when excellent teachers research and incorporate TRUTH! Did you know the Bible can be used as literature in Social Studies? I am telling you it is not as much Marxism- being taught as this article implies. Teachers I know are teaching truth, not the lies. Do you think we just read the straight textbooks? That is not teaching-you need several sources to teach well. I could go on and on. I would like to see a teacher write such an article-or at least someone that has actually been in the classroom.

Replying to all the above teachers—I teach also at the college level. My administration is full of the marxist ideology social justice idols of Diversity (groups by numbers) and Equity (enabling those who don’t/can’t to equal those who do/will. They are embedding racism “studies” and “encouraging” faculty to attend “discussion groups” since Floyd’s death. It has been a huge focus for several years, but has now increased.
I have to work around those doctrines. My method is to focus on strict (Puritan work ethic, no excuses, no late work) high performance expectations with very specific criteria, while offering counseling/conversation privately if necessary. I challenge them to think, require (early childhood) learning methods to be followed that grow right and left brain integration and as much as possible, verbalize morality through expectations of respect, kindness (I ask them to help each other), saying “thank you” and things like that. I have to work around their doctrines of man and almost in an underhanded way, teach respect, gratitude, humor, character and anything else that relates to a higher authority. I also state that I am a Christian. I do not know how many other true Christians are in my school but, the school adheres to doctrines of man with never an inclusion of Christian foundations. My personal thought is that many faculty think they are Christian but follow doctrines of man such as social justice, in a mistaken effort to be “kind.” Many black faculty and staff are Christian but the few I know well, vote Democrat, so they do not know the history of that party. There needs to be a church wakening in the pulpit across denominations to teach world views, in my opinion, so that the body of Christ is unified and ready to battle in the 7 mountains of culture.

You just happen to be one of the lucky ones and that you teach in the Bible belt. My kids were lucky also to have attended schools that still had Christian teachers teaching, a Christian Superintendent, and would allow religious songs to be sung in Choir and include religion in school plays. But many schools in our country are operated like what is described in this article. Our kids are losing their religious freedoms in school. Gay and transgender lifestyles are being brought into our schools. I myself, if I had to do it over, I would think twice about sending my kids to public schools.

The article does not say that all public schools are terribly run, but points out that the foundation for establishing the schools was not based on Christian values. Your comment that many Christian teachers do not use textbooks suggests that you are aware of the problematic content in them. Many textbooks are written to provide the information for children to regurgitate on the standardized tests, and the majority of students may be unaware of how skewed the content is. Most teachers seem to have no problem with the positions of the NEA. Children ARE told they are not to wear a cross (even though that is NOT the law)- maybe not in your classroom, but it happens. Rather than look at this article as a slam against you and other teachers, why not look at it as a call to people to reclaim local control of the schools and the curriculum? Surely having textbooks worth using would be a better option than teachers having to develop their own lessons.

I know there are many good teachers and wholesome schools that still exist in our country.
We live in a rural area in NC. While at school my 7 year old was researching puppies on the internet (no textbooks) while his teacher was at her desk fighting with her husband on the phone. Naked women popped up on the screen.
Sex curriculum is teaching kids how to have sex- how to apply condoms using bananas or wooden appendage. It gets much worse than this.
I’m thankful that you and your community have been spared this – thus far. Perhaps you have some advice for many of us in the rest of the country – instead of refuting our realities.

It would seem an enormous undertaking. Pray, pray, pray.

Since my wife & I began teaching, we were keenly aware of the teacher’s union ties and support to the democratic party. There were a militant 30 to 40 members who seemed opposed to everyone. For years cool heads prevailed but not without sweat & tears. That waned by 2001.

As Christians we had to wade through many upheavals. Eventually we became 2 of 7 staff who dropped from the Union giving us the name ‘scabs’ or worse. We could not follow Jesus and align ourselves with Union ideology and tactics. Children were lost in the shuffle at times.

Eventually ‘Fair Share’ was introduced pulling us in (by law) to dues membership. We were a Cook County District, 8-12, 9,000 children.

However, my wife and I thrived spiritually, becoming a witness & a testimony to Administration, colleagues, staff, parents, and students. We learned to ‘Love’ each other and those around us, though much death to ourselves. Yet therein lies the promises of Jesus, do they not?

The last 6 years of my teaching career, I found myself the ‘arbitrator in the shadows’ with the Union VP (of which I was only a Fare Share member, dues only, no voting power, etc.), who knew my convictions and anyone could approach. I was able to bring brevity, balance, and expose underlying root issues, creating conflicts in the ranks. I suppose I was a breath of fresh air! All this to say, we had a track record from 1974 to 2012. Jesus commands us to Love, let our fruits be shown. It took 30+ years of choices to follow the ‘cloud’ unto soil that was very dry at times. Yet in due season, not losing hope, in doing what is good.

For all believers in public education, He is the glory and the lifter of your head, and a shield for you! Seek for the fruit that remains!

Pray for Revival! With so much upheaval keep your focus fixed on Him! He must have begun His approach to us, He is Light and in Him there is no darkness. So this present darkness is being exposed left & right. A tsunami is coming!

Praying for all that concerns our children and asking for divine intervention in practical ways that will take over and replace the present school system with true education that will teach children to learn the basics of reading. Writing. Arithmetic. History. And to think for themselves. That teachers will rise up and resist the union that is wrecking havoc on our children. And our nation. Bring forth a spirit of unselfishness to replace fear and greed that has taken over. Bless our nations leaders with common sense and answers that will be embraced by teachers and all those who work with our children. More than anything Father…alert and bring parents into the schools to reform and reset education to be education without social issues the main focus. Bless us with anew school system that will replace the old. I pray for freedom for our children in the education of their minds to learn life skills. Keep the history of our nation intact and add to it that which will gather us together as a nation of diversity struggling through the years to unity under God.

I agree with you. We need a drastic change in what is taught about American history! Many people don’t even know who Nathan Hale was and the sacrifice he made for our nation’s founding that inspired our country to fight for freedom. Students have been taught a terribly distorted view of our history.
Eric Metaxas has written a book titled IF YOU CAN KEEP IT which is well worth reading to know what there is to love about America although our nation is not perfect.

I listen to Eric Metaxes on utube and Lance Wallnau as well. They are causing people to think. And I’m sure any book they wrote is for this purpose. God bless them and the USA.

After I pray about it, I will send this powerful article to my daughter in California and my sister in Nebraska. “Dear Jesus, is this what it takes for U to hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land? There is an upheaval going on in the body of Christ, in education, etc. Help us to humble ourselves and admit that we are responsible for the education of our children, not the school system! We cannot allow the public school system to usurp our responsibility as parent, grandparents & great-grandparents. Forgive us for doing that, Lord! We will pray, seek your face and turn from this wicked way we have been following. Please strengthen and equip Betsy DeVoss as she serves in her post as Secretary of Education for such a time as this! In Jesus name, Amen.

Although I just retired early from teaching…the reasons in this article being part of that, I agree with much of what is in the article. Being in Wisconsin I don’t see as many of the actual issues, but I see them coming! I have been so thankful that in WI we as educators can decide if we want to be in the union or not. In reading much of what the NEA says and promotes I am disgusted…none of my money any longer goes to their propaganda! As a parent you may be very diligent in what you allow your children to be exposed to – but don’t think that the public school you send your child to does as well….you might be surprised at what your children hear and see at school!
One family I know I thought did a great job with their five children…each child was sent to either Christian school or public depending on their personal ability to stay and stand for their faith. I believe 2 of the 5 went to public school and they are still strong Christians today. Be vigilant and pray!

I retired from teaching in a public school system. These are all true statements and it started out so subtle that if one did not have a background in God’s Word it may have been hard to see all of these things creeping in and influencing our students as well as our teachers. Today, it is easily seen and accepted, which is very disturbing as a teacher, parent, and grandparent.

This article confirms what I have felt in my spirit for decades; the school system in our nation has been hijacked by the liberal arm of our society. It was in the early fifties in elementary school that I memorized Psalm 23 along with beginning of school with prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag, all led by the teacher. We are up against the stiff arm of evil and have no hope unless we, The Church-those who believe in the power of prayer and intercession-fall on our faces before God with a broken spirit believing Him to break this spirit of evil that has gripped this nation. We must have a spiritual awakening that will come only through the menu provided in 2 Chronicles 7:14. Father, we are at your mercy, hear us, Oh God, and answer our prayers. This I pray in Your Name, Amen!
