How to Invite the Presence of God In
As I stepped into the sanctuary, I encountered the tangible presence of God. Something was very different. Although the service didn’t start for another half hour, the tangible presence of the Lord greeted me as I entered the room. The place was heavy with His presence. In silence I sat down, wondering what made this place different. There were only a couple people milling around, no music was playing – simply the heavy, weighty presence of God. It was holy, humbling and inviting all at the same time.

The tangible presence of God isn’t abnormal in many churches; however, I have found the presence doesn’t usually arrive until about halfway through praise and worship, or during prayer time. This was the first time I had walked into an empty sanctuary and experienced the presence of God like I did that day. So, what made this place different? This is something we need to discover.
After about a half hour, the praise and worship team came on the stage. I was about to see what made this place different. The praise and worship team didn’t start with music. They didn’t sing. No one made announcements. They began by proclaiming the names of God and His attributes. On and on they went, with one name after another – quoting the name and then who and what that name said about God. The more they declared His name, the weightier the presence of God became. It was awesome. That day, I learned the power in praying and declaring the names of God. From that time on, I have made it a part of my private times of worship.
One may ask, “why does God have so many names anyway?” It almost seems excessive, doesn’t it? Perhaps, until you realize every single name has divine significance. Each individual name describes an attribute of who God is, what He does and what He is all about.
I AM
For instance, Yahweh is one of God’s names. It is the name most often used in the Bible. We see it first in Genesis 2. This name describes God, the creator.
When God appeared to Moses in the burning bush, He says of Himself, “I AM WHO I AM … Later, He told Moses to tell Pharoah, “I AM sent you.” What does that mean? To me it means, I am whomever you need me to be to you” (Ex 3:14). Yahweh always has always been, He now is, and He always will be. He is who or what we need Him to be.
OUR HEALER
If we need a physician, we call a doctor. If we need healing from God, we can call on Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. Exodus 15:26 says, ““If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”
OUR PROVIDER
If we have need of finances, we often go to the bank or another financial institution. As believers, we can call on the name of Jehovah Jireh. The Lord will provide. “Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” So, he said, “Here I am.” And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now, I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So, Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided” (Gen 22:9-14.)
OUR PEACE
If we have need of peace, we can call on Jehovah Shalom. “When Gideon saw he was the angel of the Lord, he said, ‘Alas, O Lord GOD! For now, I have seen the angel face to face. The Lord said to him, Peace to you, do not fear; you shall not die. Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD and named it The LORD is Peace” (Judg 6:22-24). This is a peace that only comes from God, and it is found in the name Jehovah Shalom.
Adonai, Abba, Jehovah, Yahweh, Elohim…the list goes on and on. God has a plethora of names and attributes, one for whatever we have need of today. He truly is, I AM that I AM.
Do you have the same tangible presence of God I experienced that day in your home? In your office, your church, or your daily life? If not, I encourage you to make room for Him by discovering who He is through the many names and attributes of God.

Thank you, Kim! I did a study of the Names of God last summer, daily posting a name on my FB page with it’s meaning and also a song – which I found for EVERY ONE of God’s names! It was a wonderful exercise, and a great blessing.
Dear God,
Come pour your spirit out, We need a fresh wind the Spirit of heaven. Show us your Glory. Come heal our land, restore what needs to be restored, have mercy on us forgive us for the sin of abortion and comfort those who have been affected by the hurt and shame that abortion brings. Save those you can and place those children with the exact people you want them to be with. Bring joy and happiness where there was confusion and hopelessness. Make a way Lord when we can’t see how it could happen. Thank You Lord. Amen
I forgot to mention I whisper the Hebrew names of God to Him, and whisper in general to Him, as I’m on my face before Him. Especially the most powerful name I’ve found is “Kodesh Ardoni Elihim Shadday” “Holy Lord God Almighty”! Also “El Elyon” “God Most High, Creator, Possessor of Heaven and Earth”. Hope this encourages.
I’ve been doing this in intercession for about 5 years, especially the Hebrew names of God beginning a time of intercession with reverential silence and total stillness on my face on the floor, awesome powerful in the Spirit. Reference David Wilkerson’s book “Hallowed Be Thy Names”.
Wow – what a beautiful article. In His presence is the fullness of joy!
Wow! I really did enjoy this article about the names of God.
Thank You God for Who You are & all that You have done!
We give You glory, honor & blessing!
I have over the years taught prayer classes and emphasize the Names of the Lord to start with, especially for those starting. the Names of God, the Word and the Blood of the Lamb are mighty weapons of God for the tearing down of strongholds, a source of strength and peace when we are just moving throughout our day.
The names of God are powerful! We need to be studying them.
Many years ago, I was visiting family & we went to Focus on the Family. They had a bookstore there. I brought a book named “All the divine Names and Titles in the Bible by Herbert Lockyer. Contents: Chapter One -The names & Titles of God the Father: Chapter Two- The Names & Titles of God the Son: Chapter Three
The Names & titles of God the Spirit. Each chapter is divided into different sections. Example Chapter one has Person Names, Symbolic Designations, & Summary of Divine Names & Titles in All Old Testament Books. Sometime later I saw it at my local Christian Book store. I don’t if you can find it anywhere, anymore. If you, can I encourage you to get it!
That book is a available on Amazon & Ebay!
Thank you! I just ordered off Amazon!
Absolutely love this ♥️Oh how I love His presence
I want thank our Heavenly Father and you all for this wonderful intercessory prayer help for our nation. It is a great help to the Body of Christ to inform us and teach us how to intercede for America at such a time as this.
I am so grateful! Praying for God’s continued blessing, guidance, empowerment and protection over all of you at IFA. All to the glory of God!
Our Heavenly Father is AMAZING! He is everything we could ever need!
Thank You, God!
Amen.
I encountered the same on my first visit to my current house of worship. I was a recent widow who had just moved to the area. I went to the Christmas Eve service and arrived early. I hadn’t met the pastor or even met anyone else other than the couple who had invited me. I walked into the empty sanctuary and stood looking around, when I heard the voice of the Lord whisper in my ear, “You are home”, and I immediately knew it was true. Now almost six years later, I have a wonderful Christian family, whom I have come to love so very much! Thank you Father for your unfailing love for me at my very lowest point in my life!
Oh, praise the Name of the living God. How beautiful , how precious, the Name of our God who loves beyond measure. Oh let us come before Him and worship. He desires that place with us, whether it is our little corner or in His house ; He desires fellowship; He longs for us to come closer. There is so much he wants to tell us, if we would draw closer and spend time in worship. He deserves all our worship, all our praise. As we give Him time with us, we are amazed at what change takes place in our lives and what He will give us to give out of Himself. The more we draw near the more we are changed. Our prayers take on a new level, as we draw nearer. There is that place of peace when all around us is in turmoil, but the Presense of God sustains us and His power is in the still quiet voice, I AM ALL YOU NEED’ , I AM HERE, DRAW NEAR.. I pray many will draw nearer to God and therefore know how to fight the battles that come against us. He will instruct us and guide us in the way we should go.!!!!!! The Lord be glorified.
halleluiah!
We must clear out the clutter and give him First place in our life above all else.

it caught my eye, noticing this fiction not so. this thing of love and of fallow and a bee’s kiss
a reflection of a shimmer in a night-dream stark and pale. a vision of a kind not conceivably
but still it flirts and beckons in you. you the fledgling tortoise darting to watery moons eager
running to a spirit. to courage besting waves and depth and danger and sands golden brown
and relationships and laughter and a truth i never saw. but until then, not too much the wiser
maybe its a war for beauty, in the spiritual realm. in the symbols you believe; indulgent naïve
maybe its an Insight of untold might yet to be acknowledged. maybe its Truth, better illumed
maybe its the Holder of this space and a hard to imagine harder. a future; a path; a shimmer
GOD is ever present in all the above forms and names and always will be to those who believe. All Praise be to GOD the Father. Amen
