PRAYING THE FEAR OF THE LORD FOR OUR LEADERS
PRAYING THE FEAR OF THE LORD FOR OUR LEADERS
As we faithfully pray for our leaders in government and other areas of influence, we want them to walk in godly wisdom and understanding. Knowing that the fear of the Lord is the starting point, here are some characteristics of the fear of the Lord that can shape our prayers for these leaders.
- They will show no fear towards evil but overcome it (Isaiah 8:12-13).
- They will be open to the counsel of others (Proverbs 1:7).
- They will be teachable (Psalm 25:12).
- They will show no partiality and take no bribes (Deuteronomy 10:17).
- They will not consider themselves better than anyone else (Deuteronomy 17:19).
- Their mouths will be filled with good things (Proverbs 16:9-13).
- They will hate all forms of evil (Proverbs 8:13).
- They will operate in wisdom and humility (Proverbs 15:33).
- They will have true judgments by the Spirit and not by man (Isaiah 11:3-4).
- They will love God’s truths (Psalm 112:1).
- Their house will be in order (Psalm 128:1-4).
- They will show the fruit of riches, honor, and life (Proverbs 22:4).
- They will walk in obedience to God’s commands (Psalm 86:11).
- They will let no sin rule over them (Psalm 119:133).
- They will have no fear of man but walk in the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 29:25).
- They will rule with justice, counsel, and might (Isaiah 11:2-4).
Father, we ask that Your hand would be upon every elected official in this land. We speak favor and blessing upon those whose hearts are turned towards You. For those who have set themselves against You, we ask that the power of Your Name would arrest their hearts and confront them with the reality of a Holy God. We welcome the fear of the Lord upon this nation in order that every knee would bow and every tongue would confess that you, alone, are God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
