I Prayed have prayed
Lord God, we ask You to move in Your Church that we may do the good works You have prepared for us in our communities, cities, states, and nation.
Reading Time: 5 minutes

The Church in America is increasingly ignoring the dynamic connection between public policy and spiritual realities which is becoming increasingly ignored by the Church in America. The devaluing of political engagement by those who love Jesus and value the Written word of God has paved the way for public policies which are often opposed to biblical standards. This devaluing of civic involvement is sometimes couched in spiritual language such as, “Politics is so dirty. I’m about spiritual things,” or, “I don’t think politics makes any difference. Building the kingdom is what really matters.”

Public Policy Reflects the Values of Those Voted into Office

It’s true that many ungodly acts are committed through the misuse of political power. And we all agree that building the Kingdom of God is our highest priority. However, the current governmental overreach in the name of “flattening the curve” has been emboldened by the absence of the Church in the public square. Public policy is determined by elected officials who represent those who voted them into office. Political leaders bring their values to bear on the policies they promote. When those who love Jesus and are trying to live according to His written Word avoid voting or devalue political engagement, public policies reflect values that are opposed to biblical standards. The spiritual consequences in our nation, and particularly for the poor, are profound.

During the current crisis, we’ve all heard the constant stream of frightening reports. Political leaders warn of the potential number of deaths estimated by the latest computer models. We are told that the drastic measures to which we must all adhere could last much longer than previously thought. And the devastating financial impact to families and individuals will require trillions of dollars of government relief. This is understandably frightening to many. The virus is definitely serious, and the health impacts are significant for those who are most at risk. But let’s look at some spiritual implications of the public policy decisions being implemented in the name of public safety.

The Poor in America Suffering Most

A weakened American economy results in disproportionate suffering among the poor. When individuals who struggle to make ends meet lose their jobs, they have to search for ways to meet their basic needs. They might need food stamps in order to eat. They could require rent or mortgage subsidies in order to keep their homes. They might need their children’s schools to provide supplemental meals. The poor suffer first, most, and longest when any economy languishes. But particularly in America, where the government offers programs and policies to provide for minimal needs, a forced shutdown of businesses accelerates a forced dependence on government. This is most oppressive to the poor. When the entire American economy is forcibly shut down, the poor are at the mercy of governmental mandates. The American government has assumed the authority to tell people who can work, where they can conduct their work, and what health standards they will need to meet in the future in order to be able to work. This is all being done in the name of public safety and with the intention of meeting basic needs. Public policies shut down the ability to meet our own needs and public policy creates the new source for those needs to be met. These public policies are creating mass dependence on government, which has profound spiritual ramifications.

Weakened America Weakens the World

A mandated shut down of the American economy doesn’t just have domestic ramifications. American public policy has global spiritual implications. We currently have unelected and unaccountable health care professionals advising a national public policy that shuts down the strongest economy on the earth. Other nations will suffer magnified consequences. Opportunistic individuals and foreign nations are emboldened to lawlessness when the American economy is weakened. American strength projected to the world has served as a deterrent to those who would attempt to oppress others. Nations are arguably more stable when democratic principles of governance are enacted. America is undoubtedly flawed in the implementation of a righteous foreign policy. But historically, the poor and oppressed in many nations have benefited from America’s ability to fund development, invest in businesses, and provide humanitarian relief. A dangerous shifting of power is happening through a combination of more people dependent on governments to meet their needs and a weakened American presence on the global stage. This power shift increases the likelihood of emboldening ruthless leaders and increases lawlessness. Once again, the poor of the earth suffer a disproportionate burden from global instability.

Dangerous New Precedent

The shutting down of the American economy in order to stop a perceived health risk to the general public has never been done before. The precedent has been set that public policy should be used to fully control free enterprise and the actions of private individuals when governmental leaders determine there is a threat to the general population. Currently the threat to the general population is identified as a virus. Future threats could be identified as anything governmental leaders determine necessitates governmental intervention. The government has positioned itself as the absolute authority over private enterprise as well as the primary resource for those who are not allowed to make a living. The government was able to impose all of these controls in a matter of days. And the church has been largely silent. The view that Christians should not be involved in the political arena has resulted in policies that oppress the poor, empower governmental control, and limit individual freedom. Government reflects the values of those who get engaged in the political process.

Are We Angering the Lord?

But there is an additional insidious consequence from a disengaged Church. Unrighteous legislation that oppresses the poor angers the Lord as described in Isaiah 10. Additionally, the Bible clearly describes shakings that will have global impact. These are foretold in Haggai 2 and reiterated in Hebrews 12. The dangerous combination of shakings creating fear and opportunistic leaders legislating in ways that oppress the masses create fertile ground for what the Bible speaks of as a global leader who will promise to bring peace and prosperity to the nations clamoring for governments to ease their suffering. If the American Church is silent now in the face of significant but still relatively mild governmental overreach, what will we do as the biblically foretold global shakings increase? Put in biblical language, if we get weary running with men on foot, how will we be able to run with horses? Public policy has spiritual ramifications and we’re seeing the profound effects in a matter of a few short weeks. The government didn’t need to use violence. There was no crazed despot. The American economy was simply shut down. People became suddenly, unexpectedly dependent on government. And all it took was a frightened populace, a few public policy changes, and a silent, disengaged Church.

What about the slaughter of 63 million unborn babies. I don’t think God is happy about that.

Very well said. It is well past time for the ekklesia to take their place and use their God given authority. I hope and pray for this and hope we have not waited too long. Pray without ceasing.

I asked Jesus to be my Lord 14 years ago, until recently I didn’t even know what an Intercessor was. I have been connected to IFA for past year. Last night I was going through a personal struggle and prayed that God would speak to me in my dreams. I was so disappointed that my dreams were not full of glory and music and peace; ways He has comforted me in the past) instead I dreamt about horses being held, ready to be released! “It’s coming” I had also had visions of horses two days prior and had no idea what that was about. So I asked the Lord this morning and He is showing me things about what is coming and the book of Revelation!! Wow! Lord God! I am here! I am willing to be used by You! Jesus! We have been calling for You! Help us Jesus!! We trust You! And you alone oh God!!

You have no idea of how angry my Father is with the churches, He uses me as His hand of judgment-I sent thousands of earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, wildfires, droughts and the like and yet through all this the churches do nothing to help the needy or take of obeying God’s basic commands to tell the world about Jesus. An example of this in this is a group of people who hate God with a passion, read this: https://ffrf.org/publications/brochures/item/27181-top-ten-brochure
The next thing coming is the sixth seal opening, the GReat Tribulation,Gog and Magog. Are you really ready for this or are you comfortable with it?

Christian’s who don’t vote, and who vote in support of abortion and LGBTQ “rights” have not read their Bibles. The Church’s denial of their sin results in Government overreach such as this. We must wake up to our Kingdom responsibilities. We must learn to hear for ourselves from the Lord. Thank you for a great article.

God is serious about His people who call Him by name. He tells us to repent, TURN from our wicked ways – then He will heal our land. How do we turn from “our wicked ways” ? and give Him the honor and praise He requires of us as followers of Jesus? What do I need to change in my life that will honor the Creator of this universe?

I don’t believe it was overreach to close down schools and businesses; it was to save lives! Schools can be re-opened and businesses can recover from loss–which is not true of people lost to the virus. I lived during World War II when homes and schools and business were destroyed by bombs–And there was significant loss of life, but the people who survived rebuilt the country. And the same will happen here and in other countries, too– We shall deeply grieve the loss of wonderful family and friends who succumbed to the virus, but we shall recover and I personally thank GOD for the wisdom of the leaders of this nation to close everything down. As for closing down the churches–the church is people, not buildings, and we are all free to pray and seek GOD wherever we are.

The Church has been literally lulled to sleep. I stopped attending my church because the announcer instructed the congregation during the 2020 caucases to “go out and vote democrat, like you did for obama” I was lost for words. I have taken information about the democratic platform that showed what they sttod for e.g. abortions, the lbgtqretuv, same-sex marriage, they don’t want God on their platform.
I said they are against Gods Word. It all fell on deaf ears. Another Christian said that she would “choose the lesser of 2 evils and voted for Elizabeth warren” then there is a prominent supposedly “conservative” Pastor in Michigan (whos name is of royalty in music) who said “its impossible for someone of a good mind to vote for President Trump”BUT he took his choir to sing at the demoncratic presidential debate in July 2019 to sing for BERNIE SANDERS! So his mind is good???
This is so disheartening because in spite of warnings they think voting democrat is a right of passage NO MATTER WHAT THEY STAND FOR! Lastly I told a lady the Obama went against God’s Word she emphatically stated “they would find something on him” Cant make this stuff up.
The people I am referring to are so-called Christian’s. I could not continue attending that church especially when the Pastor said at a Sunday service that after the omarosa incident that “we know now that Trump doesn’t like the black race” I had to say that is not true. This sadly is the mindset of many churches. I went to hear a new Pastor and he bashed President Trump. I’m like this is ridiculous that Christians say they don’t like the President and wont pray for him according to 1Tim. 2:1-8. So Are We Angering The Lord??? Great question. Are We? Lord please help Us.

I grieve with you! “GOD is angry with the wicked every day.” Perhaps the virus is having a reformative effect on churches? They are all closed and the pastors now have plenty of time to pray and seek The LORD and to learn what HE would have them to do. JESUS said, “My House shall be called a House of Prayer”–so let’s just pray that those churches who do not honor GOD and HIS Word remain closed.

Many of us in the church want to see this change. We do believe we are salt and light, but the American church has been crippled so long, many of us without the leadership to understand how to be engaged in public policy more. We are truly in need of a spiritual revival in order to become all that the Lord will show us. May He bring new revelation, knowledge, wisdom and discernment as we seek Him. Lord please raise up your church to a new level of righteousness in Christ, embolden us,purify us, and rid your church of the many sins that are crippling us and hindering us from taking a stand. You are Able to recharge and refresh us with a new anointing for this time. We believe you are waking us from our slumber to step into strategic positioning that you have ordained. According to Eph. 6:10-20, may we arm ourselves for the battle that is real against the powers and principalities in the spiritual realm. Heal us of our prayerlessness and restore zeal and passion for your Kingdom. May the victories that happen in the spirit be strongly manifest in the natural to your glory! In Jesus’Name, Amen

Dear Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name I pray Your people understand the prayers Your people pray are
edited by the Holy Spirit before coming to Your throne room. You understand our knowledge is not perfect.
Contradictions will exist, but You have shown us right from wrong, justice from injustice. Grant us boldness to pray about subjects where we feel there are discrepancies. The Triune God knows our hearts and the motives of our hearts. He understands. We should lot let our doubts keep us from bringing matters of concern to Him.
He loves our imperfect prayers, and certainly expects us to, “pray without ceasing”. Amen

Holy God,
Please bring forth wise spiritual leaders who are fearless and bold to speak Your truth. You have chosen and been preparing some individuals for this season. Anoint them with Your Holy Spirit’s power. Please give them a platform to make their voices heard and open the eyes and ears, hearts and minds of the people. Father, we need national leaders, but we also need leaders in each community and each state. Thank You that You love Your Church and we ask that You make us salt and light to the United States of America.
In the name of Jesus we pray for these things to be accomplished ..
Amen.

Joanna I want to REJOICE but, people are so blinded by hate and lulled to sleep and I’m speaking of so-called Christian’s. They are misled by the narrative spewed by the media and wont listen to what the Lord has said that we are to do regarding elected officials of either party. I want to REJOICE Lord Jesus please wake up Your church. If they cant see the evil that is being perpetrated lost are they. We have to intercede on behalf of them!

There are days that I don’t know what I’m supposed to be praying for on this prayer avenue. Articles regarding how people of faith are to act and behave are all over the place. Support; don’t support; fight; don’t fight. Those are all good except they are all about the same things. I am finding everyday there are more times I do not mark the ‘I prayed’ box (except the Covid prayer wall) because the day before I marked the ‘I prayed’ box that said something opposite. Feelings run high and it is difficult for all to get it together all the time. I am finding that it is as high on this median as anywhere else. Stances are different than opinions. While I know evil is alive and well I know God is still in control. I find it interesting high numbers read the articles but low numbers mark the ‘I prayed’ boxes. That is not on all articles but on many articles. I am beginning to understand why. Thank you.
