I Prayed have prayed
Lord, we pray for transparency in our elections. Thwart the plans of these No Kings protestors who seek to mislead voters, claiming to be nonpartisan. Give churches the wisdom and courage to urge Christians to vote. May these midterms elect candidates who glorify You, O Lord. Amen.
Reading Time: 4 minutes

The “No Kings” movement billed Saturday’s demonstrations as a get-out-the-vote effort open to every American regardless of party. Fox News Digital spent the week before the events reading the ads, sign suggestions, and local party pages of the groups actually running them, and found something quite different. From Delaware to Oregon, organizers were telling volunteers to wear blue, vote them out, and help elect a Blue Tsunami.

That matters beyond the usual hypocrisy story. The coalition says its events are nonpartisan, and federal law restricts what tax-exempt nonprofits may do in elections. The contradiction is not hidden in a footnote. It is printed on suggested protest signs.

From Fox News:

In Newark, Delaware, Democratic activists from the local Indivisible chapter are encouraging voters to “wear blue” to their 2 p.m. demonstration at the corner of S. College Avenue and W. Main Street, and their “Sign Ideas” include: “Vote Blue Nov. 3,” “Vote Early, Vote Blue” and “Time for a Blue Tsunami.”

Levin replied, “By all means, make it about Trump. Y’all make it about Trump. Create some conflict. Use some strong language. There’s nothing about No Kings that says you can’t focus on the fascists in the White House.”

In a webinar last week, however, Levin was clear about the effort’s political and electoral goals to win a “Democratic trifecta” in the White House, the House of Representatives and the Senate, saying: “It ain’t over in November. It ain’t over in 2027. It ain’t over in 2028. We are building towards a national Democratic trifecta in 2029 that ushers in an age of accountability and reform.”

The national coalition’s own rulebook is explicit. Its five-page talking points guide tells organizers not to use partisan language, forbids calling for a Democratic Congress, and bans speakers from expressing bias for or against any candidate. A separate document titled “Event Prohibitions” forbids “vote Blue” and “vote them out” messaging, campaign fundraising, and coordination with political parties or committees, and rules out events at Democratic clubs or party headquarters. Its election law guidance adds a pointed warning: calling an event nonpartisan does not make it so.

The local chapters were less careful. Indivisible Douglas County in Oregon advertised signs reading “DOUGLAS COUNTY VOTES BLUE!” and “VOTE THEM OUT!” with the instruction, “Be bold. Be direct. Don’t hold back.” In Kingstowne, Virginia, Indivisible of Franconia promoted an Oct. 17 rally saying voters should remove leaders who fail to represent them. In Springfield, Pennsylvania, an event listed on the Women’s March platform declared, “Vote Blue. Vote. Make Your Voice Count.” In Roseville, California, the Placer County Democratic Party advertised a canvassing session tied to the same rally, promising materials to help participants support its endorsed candidates, while describing the rally on its own website as a day of nonpartisan voter participation.

Fox News Digital estimates the network behind Saturday’s estimated 3,000 events at roughly 300 progressive organizations, unions, operatives, and tax-exempt nonprofits with about $2.5 billion in annual revenue. Coalition partners include the American Federation of Teachers, AFSCME, the National Education Association, and the Service Employees International Union, along with Indivisible, MoveOn, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, End Citizens United, NextGen America, Our Revolution, Voto Latino, and the Democratic Socialists of America. Indivisible alone operates a 501(c)(4) advocacy group, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and a political action committee. Federal law bars 501(c)(3) charities from supporting or opposing candidates, and it was Indivisible that Fox identified as the coalition’s leading organizer, funded in part by Democratic megadonor George Soros.

National spokesperson Eunic Epstein-Ortiz disputed the characterization, calling the movement nonpartisan and peaceful, saying it draws Republicans and independents, and attributing partisan events to people borrowing the name. Indivisible co-founders Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin spent the week before the events talking about the midterms in openly partisan terms. Levin called Democratic candidates “quite good all around the country” and Republican candidates “quite trash all over the country,” and said, “Right now, we’re just full on let’s win the election.” The movement’s March flagship rally in St. Paul featured a production operation estimated at $250,000, Democratic officeholders including Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Sen. Bernie Sanders, plus Bruce Springsteen and Jane Fonda.

Scripture warns us about exactly this kind of arrangement. Romans 16:17-18 says, “I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive” (ESV). Notice what Paul does not say. He does not say these people will announce themselves. He says they will use smooth talk, and that the ones harmed are the naive, the ordinary folks who take a claim at face value because it came from a group with a friendly name. That is the shape of what is happening here. A movement insists in its own rulebook that it is nonpartisan, then hands its volunteers slogans its rulebook prohibits and tells them to create conflict and focus on the fascists in the White House. The word for that is not a mistake. It is flattery dressed as civic virtue, and Christians should name it plainly without apology. Pray that voters in Delaware, Oregon, Pennsylvania, California, and everywhere else would read the fine print before they trust a banner, and that pastors and church leaders would help their people think clearly rather than being swept along by a crowd.

Let’s pray for discernment in our churches, honesty in our public square, and an election conducted by citizens who know who is actually asking for their vote.

Jesus is LORD. America is one nation under God, The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Israel). It is in God we trust. No weapon formed against us will prosper and every tongue that rises against us, we condemn. God is for us!

“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭31‬-‭37‬ ‭NLT‬‬
