Report Claims CIA Warns Israel Faces Internal Fracture
A reported CIA assessment says Israel is approaching “civil war” or “state collapse,” a claim circulated Monday by DropSiteNews and attributed to a classified file produced by the agency’s Red Cell unit in August. The CIA did not respond to a Daily Caller News Foundation request for comment, and the underlying document has not been released publicly, which means the account rests on unnamed sources and an outlet’s characterization of material no outside party has reviewed.

That gap matters. Americans should be cautious about treating any single leaked assessment, especially one built on anonymous sourcing and framed around worst-case scenarios, as settled fact. At the same time, Israel is genuinely navigating a difficult stretch: a national election set for Oct. 27, a prime minister fighting to hold power, rising costs, and a war that has strained the country’s economy and its international standing. Those pressures are real regardless of what any intelligence memo concludes about them.
From the Daily Caller:
The CIA Red Cell unit produced a cautionary file titled “Fractures From Within” in August, DropSiteNews reported Monday. Founded in response to 9/11, the CIA Red Cell is a semi-independent unit established to provide “alternative analysis” to mitigate all of the threats and “what-ifs” in a geopolitical situation.
By Spring 2026, 60 percent of Americans viewed Israel in an unfavorable light — a figure up seven points from 53 percent the previous year, DropSiteNews reported citing a Pew Research Center survey released in April.
“The intelligence community, like America, like the military, like everywhere, is growing frustrated with the real and political capital that’s spent on propping up Israel,” the U.S. government source also told DropSiteNews. “As we’re moving forward with further integrating our military-industrial capacity with them, there’s deep frustration that we’re doing this for a country that dragged us into a war we’re losing, a country that spies on us.”
The Red Cell exists specifically to generate contrarian analysis, a mission born from the intelligence failures that preceded the Sept. 11 attacks. Its products are designed to challenge prevailing assumptions and imagine worst-case outcomes, which makes them useful and also means they are not predictions. A memo warning of possible state collapse is not the same thing as an intelligence finding that collapse is likely, and the distinction is easily lost once a document is described secondhand.
The reporting also cites polling showing American public opinion on Israel has shifted. A Pew Research Center survey released in April found 60 percent of Americans viewed Israel unfavorably, up from 53 percent a year earlier. That erosion tracks with the political pressure Israel’s leadership now faces at home, where the approaching election has become a referendum on the government’s handling of the war. DropSiteNews further reports that food prices in Israel have risen 9.5 percent over two years, that settlers responsible for violence in the West Bank are exempt from military service while IDF soldiers return home with psychological injuries, and that an anonymous U.S. government source compared the situation to post-World War I Germany, invoking the Freikorps while explicitly declining to draw a direct equivalence.
For American Christians who support Israel’s right to exist and defend itself, the story requires discernment rather than either dismissal or alarm. Israel remains a democracy under extraordinary strain, fighting an enemy that attacked it on Oct. 7 and has promised to do so again. It is also a nation whose internal divisions are real and whose citizens are bearing genuine costs. Scripture commands believers to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6) and records God’s covenant promise to bless those who bless Israel (Genesis 12:3). Romans 11:28-29 affirms that God’s gifts and calling toward Israel are irrevocable. None of that requires Christians to accept every leaked memo as true, nor to ignore legitimate policy debates about how the alliance operates. It does mean refusing the framing that Israel is a burden to be shed, and it means praying for a nation whose stability matters far beyond its borders.
Let’s pray for the people of Israel as they approach their Oct. 27 election, that the country would find unity rather than fracture and that its leaders would govern with wisdom. Let’s pray for Israeli families facing rising costs and for IDF soldiers returning home with wounds no one can see. Let’s pray for the peace of Jerusalem, that violence in the West Bank would end and that those who practice it would face justice. And let’s pray for the United States, that our leaders would stand with Israel faithfully and that American support would rest on principle rather than political convenience.
