Migrant Caravan Heads for U.S. Border, DHS Vows: ‘They Are Not Entering’
A migrant caravan that originated in Honduras is making its way north through Mexico toward the United States, but the Department of Homeland Security says the group will not be permitted to illegally cross the southern border.
Let the IFA community know how to pray for you.
DHS officials confirmed that the agency is tracking the caravan and coordinating with international partners as it moves through Mexico. The group, known as “Fe y Esperanza,” or “Faith and Hope,” reportedly includes roughly 300 migrants, some of whom have indicated that they intend to reach the United States.
From The Epoch Times:
The agency will not allow anyone in the group to cross the border, officials said Tuesday, and plans to block the group from entering.
Anyone attempting to illegally enter the United States will be apprehended, prosecuted, and removed, a DHS spokesperson said.
“DHS is playing lockdown defense at the border. We will use every Weapon at our disposal, from A to X, to keep Americans safe,” a DHS spokesperson told The Epoch Times. “Migrants considering making the dangerous journey to our country should also be aware that the days of ‘catch and release’ are over, and Biden’s disastrous open border policy has been SEALED SHUT.”
The caravan left San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on September 20 and later crossed from Guatemala into Mexico. According to the report, its members walked more than 12 hours to reach Tapachula before continuing north. Migrants received treatment for exhaustion, dehydration, blisters, and foot injuries, while humanitarian organizations supplied food, water, medications, hygiene items, and first aid.
Not everyone in the caravan reportedly intends to reach the United States. Oaxaca Capital reported that some migrants hope to remain in Mexico and find employment. Others, however, are seeking to reach the U.S., including some migrants who had previously been deported and are now attempting the journey north again.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin says the administration has been watching the caravan and communicating directly with the Mexican government. “The caravan has zero chance of coming into our country,” Mullin told Newsmax. He said Mexican authorities are helping disperse the group and argued that Mexico understands allowing the caravan to continue intact could create problems at its own border.
Mullin also indicated that the administration is prepared to use resources from several federal agencies to prevent illegal crossings, including the Department of War, DHS, and the Coast Guard. “They are not entering,” he said. “We made this very clear.”
The approaching caravan may provide another test of the administration’s determination to maintain tighter control of the southern border. DHS officials are sending an unmistakable message that migrants traveling north should not expect to be released into the United States after crossing illegally. As authorities respond to the caravan, let’s pray for wisdom and strength for those securing the border, effective cooperation with Mexico, protection for vulnerable people making the dangerous journey, and that America’s immigration laws would be faithfully and justly enforced.
