A group of American activists traveled to Cuba to celebrate the legacy of Fidel Castro, deliver aid, and express solidarity with the communist government even as President Donald Trump increases pressure on the regime.

Organized by the Venceremos Brigade and National Network on Cuba, the trip reportedly brought activists from across the United States to the island, where participants sought to strengthen a broader anti-American and anti-capitalist movement.

The Venceremos Brigade and National Network on Cuba, a coalition of more than 65 “social justice organizations,” organized a trip to bring 150 people from the United States to Cuba to commemorate the 100th birthday of Fidel Castro, the founder of Cuba’s communist regime. The activists’ goal was to “engage in solidarity labor” with Cuban workers, “meet revolutionary heroes and community organizers,” deliver aid, and “learn about Cuba’s fight against the blockade, its campaign to eliminate racism, and its internationalist medical missions.”

The Daily Wire has learned the identities of multiple activists who traveled from the United States to Cuba in defiance of American sanctions and travel restrictions. Sources familiar with the junket confirmed that Adrienne Cabouet, Jada Peten, Sulan Mlynarek, Isabel Spafford, and Yamisi Dorothea Combahee each joined the trip, which explicitly celebrated Castro and aligned the activists with an authoritarian government that is openly hostile to the United States.

The Cuban junket comes as President Donald Trump increases pressure on the socialist country through increased economic sanctions and an oil blockade. Leftist activists argue that the United States is waging an “all-out assault on Cuba,” blaming America for blackouts and shortages of food and medicine.

Several of those identified by The Daily Wire have extensive histories of left-wing activism. Adrienne Cabouet, a co-chair of the National Network on Cuba and organizer with the Venceremos Brigade, has declared that “solidarity with Cuba is unshakable” and vowed to “defy the blockade as long as it exists.” Her biography describes her as organizing to defeat “capitalism, colonialism, imperialism, and patriarchy,” while she has reportedly called America an “evil empire.”

Jada Peten, meanwhile, said organizers wanted participants to return from Cuba and build a “stronger, more militant anti-imperialist movement.” Peten previously participated in the 2016 and 2020 Democratic National Conventions as a delegate or alternate delegate for Sen. Bernie Sanders and has been involved with several activist organizations. The Daily Wire reports that she has also described America as a “white supremacist capitalist genocidal state” and advocated abolishing prisons and policing.

Other participants highlighted in the report include Sulan Mlynarek, a national coordinator for the Venceremos Brigade since 2019; Isabel Spafford, who was arrested after occupying the University of New Mexico student union during a pro-Palestinian demonstration in 2024; and Yemisi Dorothea Combahee, an abortion doula and reproductive justice organizer. Taken together, their backgrounds show that the Cuba trip was not simply a cultural visit. According to the activists’ own statements cited in the report, it was connected to a broader ideological movement opposed to American policies and institutions.

For intercessors, this story highlights a battle over the ideas shaping America. These activists are not hiding their admiration for revolutionary movements or their desire to build a more militant movement upon returning home. Their willingness to celebrate Castro’s legacy and identify America itself as an enemy should remind us to pray for discernment, especially among younger Americans attracted to revolutionary ideologies. Let’s pray that destructive ideas would be exposed, that Americans would recognize and cherish the freedoms they possess, and that truth would prevail over efforts to romanticize communism.
