The Trump administration is intensifying its crackdown on election fraud and noncitizen voting, with federal officials reporting hundreds of arrests and indictments and suggesting that considerably more cases may be coming.

“I think there are a lot of nervous election officials because I think some of them know that they’ve been looking the other way when this is happening, and we’re catching it all over the country,” Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said Monday night in an interview on the Just the News, No Noise television show.

Dhillon also hinted at further developments in the coming weeks, suggesting her department has developed evidence calling into question New Jersey’s claim that a computer glitch allowed thousands of foreigners to register to vote in that state and about 400 to actually cast ballots in violation of law.

“I’m not sure we have the correct numbers from New Jersey. They’re not really cooperating with us, and so we will get to the bottom of what happened there. And you know, New Jersey tried to blame a vendor for a mistake or a glitch, quote unquote. But you know, I think there’ll be another side to that story,” she said.

According to Just the News, Dhillon said her office has indicted or convicted 67 people for election-related crimes in recent weeks, while the Department of Homeland Security has made more than 160 arrests. She contrasted that activity with the 13 election-related prosecutions she said occurred during the four years of the Biden administration.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin also said his agency is investigating 1,620 voter-fraud cases involving noncitizens and examining an additional 300,000 cases based on state voter rolls. According to Mullin, DHS is comparing those records against information identifying illegal immigrants, legal permanent residents, and citizens.

The Justice Department has also announced charges against 16 people across seven states involving alleged illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration, and other election offenses. Among the examples cited in the article are a Venezuelan national and DACA recipient accused of voting nine times between 2008 and 2024 and a Mexican national accused of falsely claiming U.S. citizenship and voting in Idaho. Nigerian national Gladys Okafor was separately charged with illegally voting in the 2022 midterms and 2024 presidential election.

Other investigations extend beyond noncitizen voting. Three people were charged this month in connection with an alleged Los Angeles scheme involving payments to homeless people to sign petitions using stolen identities of registered voters. Dhillon told Just the News that federal authorities are expanding their efforts in that case.

The article also points to a Census Bureau brief published in August that said more than 24,000 noncitizens voted in the 2020 general election, including an estimated 4,300 in California and 2,500 in Texas. The brief, according to the article, said it could identify with “high confidence” 128 million of roughly 160 million votes as having been cast by U.S. citizens, with another 32 million still to be analyzed.

Meanwhile, DOJ’s efforts have reached state election systems themselves. After notifying all 50 states that election officials could face prosecution for allowing noncitizens to vote, the department subpoenaed Nevada election officials for voter information. Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar recently said the state had removed a net 50,130 people from its voter rolls, while DHS had previously identified potentially 16,000 foreigners on those rolls.

The scale of these investigations makes election integrity an important matter for prayer. Every lawful voter should be able to participate with confidence that election laws are being faithfully enforced, while allegations of wrongdoing should be investigated carefully and established through evidence. Let’s pray for truth to be uncovered, for justice to be administered impartially, and for election officials and law enforcement authorities to act with wisdom, integrity, and courage.
