The FBI is putting a new spotlight on major fraud suspects, launching a “Most Wanted Fraudsters” list as part of a broader federal effort to pursue alleged schemes involving taxpayer programs and private victims. Within its first months, authorities say several fugitives accused in cases involving billions of dollars have been apprehended overseas.

The tempo was immediate. Within two weeks, two names were already off the list. In five weeks, the count hit four, with those suspects charged in schemes totaling nearly $1.8 billion and a combined 3,500 days on the run, each returned from overseas through foreign transfers of custody.

By early September, the FBI cited that captured subjects were linked to more than $2 billion and nearly 4,000 days as fugitives; Patel then told Vance that five had been taken in three months across three continents.

The sixth came over the weekend of September 12–13.

The FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters list follows the familiar format of the bureau’s other wanted lists, displaying photographs, aliases, charges, alleged losses, last-known locations and information about rewards. As of September 18, the FBI’s public page displays 12 suspects still being sought.

The initiative is connected to the administration’s larger campaign against fraud involving federal programs. In March, President Donald Trump established the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, chaired by Vice President JD Vance. The executive order directs federal agencies to coordinate investigations, improve eligibility verification, strengthen controls before payments are made, and share information to identify fraud across federal benefit programs.

The new wanted list has also highlighted the international dimension of some federal fraud investigations. According to the supplied report, suspects have been located in countries including Vietnam, the Philippines and Jamaica. Among the recently apprehended suspects is Emylee Thai, who is accused in a genetic-testing scheme involving approximately $142 million billed to Medicare and roughly $95 million collected. These remain allegations unless and until proven in court.

The crackdown extends far beyond the fugitives appearing on FBI posters. In June, the Department of Justice announced its 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, charging 455 defendants—including 90 doctors and other licensed medical professionals—in alleged schemes involving more than $6.5 billion in false claims. The cases stretched across 56 federal districts and 45 states and territories, with international cooperation resulting in several defendants being apprehended overseas and returned to the United States.

The Justice Department has also established a National Fraud Enforcement Division to coordinate investigations and prosecutions. DOJ said in June that the division’s work supports the administration’s government-wide Task Force to Eliminate Fraud.

Fraud on this scale has consequences beyond government balance sheets. Money fraudulently taken from Medicare, Medicaid, pandemic programs and other federal initiatives ultimately comes from taxpayers and can divert resources away from people those programs were designed to serve. At the same time, accusations must be tested through the justice system, where defendants retain the presumption of innocence. Let’s pray that fraud and corruption are exposed, that investigators and prosecutors act with wisdom and integrity, and that justice is administered fairly to everyone involved.
