Fetterman Warns He’ll Leave Democrats If Party Abandons Israel
Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman is once again breaking with many members of his own party over Israel. As progressive voices within the Democratic Party become increasingly critical of the Jewish state, the senator warned this week that he could not remain a Democrat if the party officially abandoned its support for Israel.

From Just the News:
Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman issued a warning to the Democratic Party on Wednesday, stating that he would leave it if the party officially turns its back on Israel.
The warning comes the same day that over 100 House Democrats voted against sending more aid to Israel, though the amendment containing the proposal failed to pass because of wide Republican support.
“If our party ever becomes — and just makes it official — the anti-Israel party, that’s when I would leave because that’s been a moral clarity for me,” Fetterman said during an interview at the Hill Nation Summit in Washington.
Fetterman went on to express concern that the Democratic Party has become increasingly hostile toward Israel as progressive candidates continue winning primaries around the country. Although he said most of his political views still align with Democrats, he revealed that he has recently been approached about changing parties. The Pennsylvania senator also criticized fellow Democrats for supporting controversial candidates, including former Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, whose campaign collapsed amid allegations of sexual assault.
For years, IFA intercessors have faithfully prayed for Sen. Fetterman, and we have seen the Lord answer those prayers in many different ways. While we disagree with him on many issues, we have also been encouraged to see the Senator emerge as a stalwart defender of God’s chosen nation in the Middle East.
Israel has increasingly become a point of division within American politics. Following Hamas’ October 7, 2023, terrorist attack, support for Israel has remained strong among many lawmakers, while others have become more critical of the Jewish state and its military operations in Gaza. Within the Democratic Party especially, progressive activists and candidates have increasingly questioned America’s longstanding alliance with Israel, creating growing tensions between the party’s traditional pro-Israel members and its activist base.
For intercessors, support for Israel extends beyond geopolitics. Throughout Scripture, God reveals His covenant relationship with the Jewish people, and we are called to pray for the peace of Jerusalem while recognizing Israel’s unique place in God’s redemptive plan. That does not mean every action taken by the Israeli government is beyond criticism, but it does mean we should reject efforts to delegitimize Israel’s right to exist or defend itself against those who seek its destruction.
Whether Sen. Fetterman’s warning ultimately changes the direction of his party remains to be seen. Regardless of political outcomes, let’s continue praying for leaders on both sides of the aisle to reject antisemitism, pursue truth over political pressure, and stand with Israel as it faces ongoing threats.

God describes Israel as His chosen people, establishing an eternal covenant with them and promising the land of Israel as an everlasting possession. He declared that He will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who treat them with contempt. Ted Cruz referenced Genesis 12:3, which says: “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” That’s God speaking to Abraham. Not Jacob. Not Israel. The name “Israel” doesn’t even appear there, because Jacob (later renamed Israel) wasn’t born yet. Then say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all around, and bring them to their own land.
Praying God’s word over Senator John Fetterman – Philippians 1 “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ…And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and ALL discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”
“The king’s heart is in the hands of of the Lord, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes” Proverbs 21:1
Dear John Fetterman,
Thank you for standing for Israel’s survival and us helping and for many issues that you perceive as “moral clarity”, rather than standing with cookie-cutter opinions of your party. That is great that you vote conscience and objective reality.
I did not at first trust that you could do a good job when you were running for office, because I got the idea that possibly you could have a drug problem that could interfere with your lucidity for your service in voting and making laws in Congress. However, I have been pleasantly surprised over-and-over that you have made many wise decisionsl Maybe you (like one of my favorite Senators, Ted Cruz whom I see through C-Span speaking out), will likewise be a consicience-speaker, enlivening the conscience of Congress. Thanks again for your many good decisions!
Lord, You can turn people this way and that, even those who oppose Your Truth. Let Thy Kingdom come and Thy will be done in Sen. Fetterman and all those who serve in the Congress. There is nothing too difficult for You. Thank You for working in and through these people. Though they oppose Your ways, You will have Your way in this country. America Shall be Saved! Amen.
Lord I lift up the ignorant and foolish ones who take You lightly, like this, how we respond to Israel, is a small thing.
The song Bette Midler sang, “From a Distance,” may get through to them. I pray it so, the implication to her song and the Truth, It is not from Your perspective but their own–that the world You made seems small–peaceful and calm.
Forgive us for acting in presumption– cold and insensitive. Sometimes we let our minds and hearts wander off like sheep, exposing ourselves to real evil and danger. Correct our perspective LORD.
Please show us the error of our ways and lead us back to our senses, by Your grace and mercy. One serious look at Your Word tells plainly how far off we are and that Your grace and mercy have their limits.
Psalm 23 needs to be in our heart–not just our heads. Thank You for Your rod and staff. Be with us, give us willpower–to we, ourself(s), to repent and faithfully remember Our First Love, in Jesus. Amen
