Trump-Backed Candidates Score Major Wins in Key 2026 Primaries
Primary elections across several states are offering fresh insight into the political landscape ahead of the 2026 midterms, with President Trump continuing to demonstrate enormous influence within the Republican Party. Tuesday’s races featured major victories for Trump-backed candidates, key Senate contests, and critical Democratic primary battles in swing districts that could shape control of Congress next year.

From The Epoch Times:
Voters on Tuesday headed to the polls in states across the country for some of the most-anticipated battles of the 2026 midterm election season.
May 19 marks the largest day of primary elections yet, seeing ballots cast across six states: Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Oregon, and Pennsylvania.
The night continued past trends showing that President Donald Trump retains a dominant influence over the Republican Party, as his chosen candidates sailed to victory in race after race—with one Republican incumbent in a major race being defeated.
One of the night’s biggest headlines came in Kentucky, where Rep. Thomas Massie lost his Republican primary to former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein after President Trump actively campaigned against the longtime congressman. The result is being viewed as another sign of Trump’s continued strength among Republican voters, particularly in primaries where his endorsements have proven highly influential.
Several major Senate races also began taking shape. In Kentucky, Rep. Andy Barr secured the Republican nomination to replace retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell, while Democrats selected former state Rep. Charles Booker as their nominee. Meanwhile, in Alabama and Georgia, Republican Senate and gubernatorial races are headed to runoffs after no candidate secured a majority of the vote.
Georgia remains one of the nation’s most closely watched battleground states. Republican voters sent both the governor’s race and the Senate primary to second-round runoff elections, setting up another month of intense campaigning as Republicans seek to unseat Democrat Sen. Jon Ossoff and maintain momentum heading into November.
Democrats, meanwhile, focused heavily on key House districts in Pennsylvania, where several candidates backed by Gov. Josh Shapiro won their primaries. Nationally, many political observers believe Democrats are prioritizing efforts to retake the House of Representatives, even as Republicans currently hold a strong majority in the Senate.
These elections are another reminder of how significant local and primary races truly are. Many of the nation’s future leaders, policies, and priorities are often determined long before the general election arrives. Let’s continue praying for wisdom, discernment, and godly leadership at every level of government — from Congress to local communities across the nation.
