I Prayed have prayed
Lord, we are desperate for change in our nation. We pray that America would once again turn back to You, and that a fear of the Lord would sweep across the nation.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

“Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.” –Proverbs 15:16

Is there a better picture of the truth of this passage than Charles dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol? You know the story. Poor Bob Cratchit with son Tiny Tim and the rest of their impoverished family are filled with joy and faith, contrasted with the miserable existence of wealthy Ebenezer Scrooge. The novel isn’t so much against money as it is our attitude of holding on to it and failing to live a life that uses what we have for others. The Bible would call that failing to have a fear of the Lord.

The United States is in a curious place regarding wealth. We certainly have affluence that is virtually unimaginable. Many place a high value on obtaining money. Our ethics regarding the ways we obtain wealth are often highly suspect. Yet, for all our failings in this area, we are also a nation known for generosity.

We celebrate those who are able to give great financial gifts for charitable reasons. When tragedy strikes, the greatness of america’s generosity kicks in. We have sent american dollars around the world to help those in need. We even provide tax credits for those who give charitably. Yet we can do better not just in giving, but in our attitudes toward wealth. More fear of God, less striving after wealth. That would be better!

Prayer Points

  • Repent for any greed or wrong attitudes concerning money.
  • Pray for an increased spirit of generosity in the church.
  • Ask the Lord to pour out godly fear of the Lord throughout our land.

My Prayer

Father, I thank You for the way You have poured out abundance upon our nation. Forgive us for the ways we have often hoarded or squandered that wealth. Help us to see from heaven’s perspective how wealth is to be viewed and used. Pour out the fear of the Lord that causes us to see all that we have as coming from You. Help us as a nation not to put our trust in our finances but in You. Give us an even greater spirit of generosity.

This article, bears resemblance to many times in The Bible records of when people were in times of abundance and then days of poverty. No matter which sesson it was, complaints were heard by The Lord. Surely, if anyone remembers anything of the Old Testament, it would be at least this one moment during the Wilderness wandering.

Num.11:1-21 vs.1 ” Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord; for the Lord heard it, and His anger was aroused. So the fire of the Lordburned among them, and consumed “some” in the outskirts of the camp.” vs2 “Then the people cried out to Moses, and when, and when Moses prayed to the Lord, the fire was quenched.”

What were they complaining,( yet again), about this time? No meat! They have been provided for everyday, by The Lord! vs.4 ” …so the children of Israel also wept again and said” Who will us meat to eat?” vs 5 ” We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, cucumbers, melons, leeks and onions, and the garlic; v.6 ” but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!”
So, by this time, 2 years at least, by the beginning of Numbers, after all the Laws, the details of a census, building camp, taking it down moving again, all of the animals they were leading, some for feasts and offerings, some for eating; the tribes were complaing again,! Despite all the provisions they have had from God, they were” sick and tired”of it all, and just wanted something more than manna!
As people in this modern age, having just about everything we want, and (yes some who dont, poor, homeless, etc) we can identify in one way,” sick and tired” of…name your complaint!
Human nature, sinful in heart and mind, lack of Fruits of the Spirit, do we ever complain about these piececs in our lack? Yet, God still provides! No matter how impoverished one may feel, and how sinful we might have been, God Still provides! When was the last time nothing was in your refrigerator, your food pantry, your clothes closet, your garage? The point is, unless you have been in any of these circumstances, you might have a glimpse of how these “children of Israel,” may have felt. However, like them also, when you have been provided for in all these physical ways, did you complain about lack? Again, the question where are you lacking in health, many may say “yes” keep praying and try to abide by God’s provisions, His medicine cabinet is not in the dr. office! How many are lacking in The Fruits of The Spirit? Keep praying for each one, Love, Peaceful, Joy, Forgiveness, Kindness, and so forth. Look into your Bible, read again the rich chapters of Romans, Ephesians, Colossians, Galatians, and 1 John, just some that speak of our behaviors toward each other, the church, the government, our enemies, husbands and wives to each other and so forth These too are gifts of the Spirit in use!
Yes, the article was about wealth and lack and many disappointments some are feeling, Anger even! Brothers and Sisters, we need to get our Houses in order! The government is just one entity of ” house”. Our very own heart, mind and spirit, too our Family and home, our Churches and leadership there, our work place attitudes towards it, and how much time in it verses the rest of our daily lives! We can not fix just one place and not work on the rest. Our Society has become worse than many of us have ever experienced! We need to start with our own, person, and go through each ” house” as mentioned above. We can read our Bible, pray, everyday but without action nothing will happen. To The Work, To The work, do all in the Name of The Lord!
Dear Father our Lord God,
We do pray and ask forgiveness fir our lack or sin our negligence in any area we have failed! We know You have not failed us. We know You have not failed US and A ! We ask that You guide each one of us to go and do the things needing Done, in our homes, neighborhoods, churches, schools, counties, states To get our homes in order! And, we ask a blessing uoon our county, State, and Federally elected officials to also Do The Right Things for the people, by the people of our USA in Your Name! That many more Of The Faithful amongst the leaders would step up and do what is best in Liberty and Justice For All!
Thank You for hearing our prayers, And Your Mercy, Grace, Provisions, Forgiveness And Love,
In Jesus Christ’s Name we pray,
Amen
