NATO Chief: European Businesses, Prepare for Conflict
Editorial note: With many shifts in the geopolitical landscape lately, it is easy to fear uncertainty and potential threats. As we view these as men of Issachar, we must understand that the world teeters in man’s control but that God is solidly working behind the scenes, partnering with the Church to move in ways that bring deliverance and opportunities to discover His great nature. We must not fear but instead, see this intel provided in news stories as points of prayer for our nation and world. Be strong and courageous!
Admiral Rob Bauer, Chair of NATO’s Military Committee, has warned about the resurgence of European conflict. During his address at the Berlin Security Conference, Bauer highlighted the necessity for businesses in both Europe and the United States to brace for wartime-like conditions. He underscored the critical impact that commercial decisions can have on national security.
“Business leaders in Europe and America need to realize that the commercial decisions they make have strategic consequences for the security of their nation,” Admiral Bauer said, adding, “Businesses need to be prepared for a wartime scenario and adjust their production and distribution lines accordingly.”
He ominously warned: “Ladies and Gentlemen, war is back on the European continent. And over the past years, more and more people in Europe realize that war can happen to them too… again.”
Admiral Rob Bauer highlighted that significant civilian participation would be necessary in the event of a large-scale conflict, such as a hypothetical World War III. Governments would need to create systems to mobilize and manage civilian resources efficiently.
Bauer suggested a shift in mindset from predictable and controlled operations to being adaptable to unpredictability. He stressed the importance of maintaining an industrial base capable of quickly producing weapons and ammunition to sustain a conflict if needed.
Earlier this year, Bauer mentioned the possibility of conscription if NATO were to engage in extensive hostilities with Russia. For example, Finland, which shares a long border with Russia, has developed a network of bomb shelters for emergencies.
Recently, the Biden-Harris administration in the U.S. has approved a series of escalations by Ukraine against Russia, raising concerns that a misstep could lead to a broader and more severe conflict.
