President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met in SingaporeĀ in June for a historic summit and signed an agreement committing to the ā€œbuilding of a lasting and robust peace regimeā€ on the Korean peninsula.

ā€œWeā€™re prepared to start a new history, and weā€™re ready to start a new chapter between our nations,ā€Ā Trump saidĀ at a news conference.

ā€œPeace is always worth the effort,ā€ he said. ā€œAnyone can make war, but only the most courageous can make peace.ā€

TRUMP, KIM JONG UN’S SUMMIT IN VIETNAM: WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE LEADERS’ SECOND MEETING

As the leadersĀ prepare to meet for a second time in VietnamĀ this week, take a look back at five agreements Trump and Kim made during their first trip.

Denuclearization

Trump and KimĀ signed a documentĀ promising to work for ā€œcomplete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.ā€

Trump laterĀ told Fox NewsĀ he thought Kim would begin to dismantle his nuclear program ā€œvirtually immediately.ā€

ā€œI just think that we are now going to start the process of denuclearization of North Korea, and I believe that heā€™s going back and will start it virtually immediately,ā€ Trump said. ā€œAnd heā€™s already indicated that and you look at what heā€™s done.ā€

AT LOOK AT HOW NORTH KOREAā€™S NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROGRAM HAS CHANGED WITH EACH KIM REGIME

ā€œHis country has to be de-nuked, and he understood that he fully understood that, he didnā€™t fight it,ā€ Trump said.

At a news conference, the president said he understood it would take ā€œa long time to pull off complete denuclearization,ā€ but he promised to push North Korea to remove its weapons quickly as it ā€œmechanically and physicallyā€ can be done.

Trump also said Kim will be destroying a ā€œmajorā€ missile testing site ā€œvery soon,ā€ an agreement they came to after signing the document.

Human rights violations

The summit came nearly a year afterĀ Otto Warmbier, a 22-year-old college student, died after being brought back to the U.S. The University of Virginia student had been arrested in January 2016 for allegedly stealing a propaganda poster and sentenced to 15 months in prison. While incarcerated, he fell into a coma.

ā€œOtto did not die in vain,ā€ Trump said in Singapore.

Trump told reporters after the meeting that he did discuss human rights with Kim, albeit briefly. Prior to the summit,Ā it was reportedĀ that the U.S. delegation, including the president, would steer clear of the Hermit Kingdomā€™sĀ lengthy listĀ of human rights violations.

Prior to the summit, Vice President Mike Pence said he hadĀ spoken to Warmbierā€™s father and promised him his son ā€œwill not have died in vain.ā€

Both Kim and TrumpĀ signed an agreementĀ for the recovery of the remains of American soldiers as well as the immediate repatriation of those who have already been identified.
