By now, you’ve seen the news. President Joe Biden has decided to drop out of the presidential race. This decision came after immense pressure from Democrats. This news was expected for those who are discerning.  While they cited the President’s failing stamina and cognitive abilities, this was nothing new from his years in office. So why the sudden announcement with only a few months until the election?

Since the June presidential debate, Democrats have begun to push President Biden to step down. Many staff members were working around the clock to limit his exposure for fear of gaffes. The New York Times published an article detailing his mental abilities and discussing Democrats’ growing concerns. I read this piece to pray when a quote caught my eye. “The problem is, A true succession plan does not exist,” a senior Democratic campaign adviser admitted to CNN.

While jotting notes in my journal, I sensed the Lord say, “Do you believe they have no plan?” 

I said, “No.” From this question, I sensed a prayer assignment from the Lord and a warning to the Intercessors. I’ll ask you the same question I was asked: Do you believe they have no succession plan? Do you believe they are scrambling with no prospects? I do not. They already know who they want running alongside Vice President Harris.

Since President Biden was sworn in, his administration has been busy undoing much of the progress that former President Trump made. They moved quickly because they had a plan. Instead of praying, the church was arguing over the legitimacy of the elections. While we were divided, they were unified in their plans for the nation. 

President Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination. Many think she isn’t a strong opponent to face President Trump. Some say California Governor Gavin Newsom could be on the presidential ballot. Before President Biden’s decision, former First Lady Michelle Obama was trending; however, in March, her office said that the former First Lady would not run for president in 2024. Many think she is the best candidate to defeat President Trump. Only God knows how the elections will turn out, but we, intercessors, know what to do.

The best thing to do is intercede. Stand in the gap for our elections and our nation. 

The worst thing we can do is assume President Trump will automatically win this election. We made a huge mistake in 2020 by putting all our eggs in one basket. While everyone was mocking Biden and Harris, they won; despite our opinions, God allowed it. We cannot be so arrogant this time around.

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14). 

Be humble (see Luke 14:11). 

We know what the Bible says about pride. It comes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. We are to take the low road that Jesus took. When we humble ourselves, God exalts us (see James 4:6-10), and He does so in due time, which is the right time (see 1 Peter 5:6-7). Humility attracts God, while pride does the opposite. Haughty eyes are listed in Proverbs 6:16-19 as one of six things the Lord hates. 

Seek God’s Face 

This phrase is commonly referenced in the Bible. To seek God’s face implies an intimate relationship. We have the privilege of entering His Presence. It’s a daily act of drawing near for no purpose but fellowship with our Father. You can do this by worshipping, praying, reading the Bible, and waiting on the Lord. Do as He leads you.

Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore (1 Chronicles 16:11). 

Seek God’s Favor 

There are numerous benefits to seeking God’s face, but one that we can focus on in election season is favor. Where God’s presence is, there is favor, and we need it. Moses and Aaron prayed this priestly blessing over Israel. Let’s follow this pattern and pray and release this blessing over America. 

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace (Numbers 6:22-26).”

Pray for Vice President Kamala Harris

I have seen just as much mockery towards VP Harris as I have seen against President Biden. I’ve never seen any posts asking people to pray for her. As the second in command in our nation and a contender for President, we must intercede. Ask God to remove the veil that keeps her from the glorious light of the gospel (see 2 Corinthians 4:3-4). Pray for her protection over her.

In 2017, I received my first vision of Kamala Harris. Years later she would become the Democratic Party’s Vice President nominee. No one thought she would be selected. People assumed that more well-known politicians would be selected. No one took her seriously then, just as no one does now. But she was selected and became our V.P. 

In 2022, I received a burden from the Lord for her. You can read that here: Pray for V.P. Harris. The Lord didn’t give me that burden for President Biden, but He has for V.P. Harris. If God wants people to pray for her, it’s because there is a purpose, even if we don’t understand why. 

Pray for The Possible Running Mates

Gov. Gavin Newsom, Gov. Roy Cooper, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Sen. Raphael Warnock, and Sen. Klobuchar are just a few of the more recognizable names that are potential running mates. Former First Lady Michelle Obama is not on the list, but we should pray about her anyway. 

Pray the selected candidate will have a chance to repent and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior if they have not already. Despite what we think about their qualifications to run, Jesus died for each candidate. He desires to see them saved, and He is not willing for ANY to perish (see 2 Peter 3:9). 

Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:1-4). 

Pray for God’s Plan and Purposes to be done in America (see Proverbs 19:21). 

I’m sure the Democratic Party already has its running mate for V.P. Harris set. It has been planned. Pray that if this is not God’s plan for our elections, it will not come to pass.

We may make our plans, but God has the last word (Proverbs 16:1 GNT). 

Pray for God’s Will to be done His way (see Matthew 6:10). 

Often, we think we know what God will do. The last elections showed us that we do not.

When we don’t know what to pray, the best thing we can say is, “Lord, have Your way. Let Your will be done.” We are not God; only He can see the end from the beginning. 

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).

I read something that stuck with me on social media. It said, “If our words have power, imagine our prayers.” Death and life are the power of the tongue. For too long, Christians have wielded our tongues like swords. This type of behavior is expected from unbelievers who do not know Jesus. To see it from Christians is sad and not a good testimony. Why would anyone want Jesus if we represent him so poorly? 

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice (Ephesians 4:29-31).

Accept the Challenge 

We have all felt frustrated and saddened by the Biden Administration’s unbiblical decisions. Let’s pray to God and express our anger, criticism, and confusion. Say a prayer for that person. It’s best to be honest with God and say, “I’m having trouble. I do not know how to pray for this candidate or leader.” Remember that the Holy Spirit intercedes through us when we don’t know what to pray.

Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession] for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God (Romans 8:26-27). 

Father,

We don’t know what will come, but we know You do. We humbly seek Your face on behalf of America. We want You to have Your way. We recall when Haman planned to erase Your people but failed because He was fighting against You. You reversed an edict meant for the death of a people. Let every evil plan and scheme unravel. Frustrate the plans of the ungodly. We agree with Your word that “many are the plans in the mind of man, but the Lord’s purpose prevails.”  We pray that Your plans for our elections and nation will prevail. You have a purpose for America, and we want to see it fulfilled, but we cannot do it without You. We are seeking Your face for America and pray for divine intervention. I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:2 NIV); in Jesus’ name, amen.
