The House passed the SAVE Act along party lines, with only 5 Democrats voting in favor. Why are so many against protecting the vote?

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act is an amendment to the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 that requires proof of citizenship “to register an individual to vote in elections for Federal office,” according to the bill text. The bill, which was introduced by Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, passed the House 221-198. …
The bill establishes criminal penalties for election officials who register voters without enforcing the requirement to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Additionally, the bill requires noncitizens to be removed from official lists of eligible voters.
The Biden Administration released a statement in opposition to the bill on Monday, claiming that states “already have effective safeguards in place to verify voter’s eligibility and maintain accuracy of voter rolls.” …
Speaker Mike Johnson said on Tuesday that Democrats are trying to “mislead” Americans about election integrity efforts because “they want illegals to vote in our elections.”
“They’re claiming to oppose the bill because they say it’s going to make it harder to vote,” Johnson said during a press conference. “But they know that that is not true. Many of the Democrats want all of these illegals to participate in our federal elections. They want them to vote. There’s no other conclusion that you could draw. When the White House announced that they would veto the bill they effectively handed our elections over to all of these illegal aliens that have come here.” …

The money is the tool the Constitution gave to Congress to prevent parts of Government abuse. I pray the Republicans will unite and stop the abuse. Thank God for the members of Congress who are following the Constitution.
My Savior! How I adore you. You alone are worthy to be praised. There is NONE like YOU. Your faithfulness, integrity, righteousness and abilities are unrivaled in all the land. I stand in awe of you, My Lord. Thank you that we can stand on your word, that you mean what you say and say what you mean. Thank you for giving us your word as a light unto our paths and a lamp unto our feet. I know what is documented in Luke 8:17 and again in Luke 12:2 and 3 where you remind us that things that are done in secret or underhandedly, will most certainly become known and that even things whispered in a closet will be shouted from the housetops means you will show us what is being done sneakily. Continue to do that and to institute laws like this that will make it harder for them to conceal and cheat during elections. We thank you Lord for every answer to our prayers. Continue to help us make the elections of our Nation fair and right. Lift up those candidates you deem worthy to be in authority over us. We want and need someone who will do your will and we trust you Savior to make that happen. We give you all HONOR, GLORY and PRAISE, Jesus. We pray this prayer in your Holy Name. Amen
I thank you for all those who are trying to keep our elections secure and legal. I pray you protect their efforts to do the correct processes and put a hedge of protection around them . I ask that only legal citizens are allowed to vote. Thank you, heavenly Father in advance for the truth only to reign over our next election. In Jesus’ name I pray.
