We Can Impact the Drug Epidemic
We Can Impact the Drug Epidemic
It was early one morning when my phone rang. I answered the call wondering why my sister was calling so early. Breathlessly she asked, “Did you hear about the boy?”
“What boy? I haven’t heard anything.” I responded.

She continued to tell me a young man was found dead beside the river. He was all alone, and they didn’t know why he was there or how long he had been there. “What happened to him?” I asked. The answer: “Drug overdose.”
I wish this were something unusual in our nation, but, unfortunately, it is not.
While it is not common in my small town, it seems to be affecting families everywhere in America. Almost everyone I know is dealing with a child or grandchild who is addicted to illegal drugs. I receive emails on a weekly basis asking me to pray about a child or grandchild who is in bondage to drugs and causing devastation in their family.
Weekly on the news media we hear about mass shootings, sex trafficking, and kidnappings. While these things are vitally important, we don’t often hear about the mass numbers of people who are dying daily from drug overdoses.
Are you aware that drug overdose has become the No. 1 cause of death in our nation for those between the ages of 18 and 45, according to government data? These deaths have surpassed COVID-19 deaths, auto accidents, and suicides.
The number of fatal drug overdoses surpassed 100,000 in the U.S. in the previous year, with fentanyl accounting for 64% of those deaths. It is estimated that every day more than 175 Americans die from a fentanyl overdose.
Fentanyl — that is what took the life of this young man. He was only 23 and had his entire life ahead of him. He leaves behind devastated parents, siblings, and grandparents, as well as many friends. Instead of living the life God had for him, he died alone by the river. It saddens me beyond words.
I don’t know what causes people to begin to take these drugs, but I do believe there are things we can do to help keep these drugs out of the hands of our youth. I recently heard about a young man in rehab. He said: “I felt lost, and I didn’t know what to do or how to get out of it; I knew I should run to family, but I was too ashamed and couldn’t ask for help.” How can we help stop this evil?
The Bible says the fervent prayers of righteous people make great power available, dynamic in its working. I believe this to be truth. Therefore, we can pray and stand in faith and stop this widespread evil in our nation.
The Bible also says great deliverance belongs to those who are the seed of David. If you have a family member or loved one who is involved in drugs, you can cry out to God and see great deliverance come to them. It is God’s covenant promise to you and your family, down through the generations.
My friends and fellow prayer warriors, we must stop this evil from taking the lives of our children and our families. It is possible. All things are possible with God. All things are possible to those who believe. I believe we can put a stop to this, through our prayers and through the word of God. Won’t you join me?

I am a retired pharmacist; I tried for years to halt the unnecessary prescribing of prescription drugs, with very little success. The boards of pharmacy in many states were run by pharmacists who owned their own drug stores, and they would fill anything and everything. I tried talking to my state representative, and was told this is a privacy issue. Once, after I had complained about a physician and his fraudulent writing of prescriptions, I had a member of the medical board with me in my pharmacy, when I received one of these prescriptions; He did not do anything about it, but the very next week that physican was arrested for INSURANCE FRAUD. He was on TV in handcuffs.
Horrifically, there are needle exchanges up all across this nation. Government funded places where you can walk in and get “clean needles” under the CDC. I found this out when taking a friend’s sister for her green card as this is where the my sent us. I was mixed with emotions, especially not knowing where I was. Unfortunately even more, this was right across the hall from WIC. In my heart and mind this is the last place and place like this should be. How easily is it for the youth struggling to have access to this. I was shocked. I did not understand and I tried to ask questions with my heart pounding in complete confusion and disarray.
I pray these get taken out of our system, and true healing happens for these people. Protection and strength for those bombarded with life circumstances, may they not let it take root and goodness overcomes it all!
My heart hurts. Im saddened and mad that this is the normal hidden in our nation. To many people affected and they need Jesus!
Heavenly Father,
With so much “wrong” in our country, we cry out to You for Whom Nothing is Impossible! As we believe you for revival and a Great Awakening we ask you to set those captive to drugs free in Jesus’ Name! We especially cry out for our children ,young people, believing you know each one who needs an encounter with You, maybe for a first time, but also after already knowing you being dragged back down into the darkness of their pain, confusion, lies of Satan.
We, by faith, together release Your delivering and healing power over each one bringing Your love, light, and truth into their hearts, minds, and souls.
We thank You that when we are in Glory we will know those who are being touched by our prayers, even today!
In Jesus’ Name, the Name above all Names!
Kathleen
In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen
My son was heavily addicted to drugs (oxycodone/heroine/meth) for 10 years. After many years of tears and prayers, jail and homelessness, God saved him. He has been clean almost 5 years, is married and is working for the nonprofit faith-based program that helped saved him. Check out Teen Challenge https://teenchallengeusa.org/ and inquire if they can help your loved one with addiction through hard work and the Holy Spirit. Dear Lord, return our prodigals to you so they may glorify you in Jesus’ name. Amen!
Chantel, this is a God story and as after I read and began to contemplate His innumerable acts of mercy and grace, I was reminded of John’s final statement in his beautiful book:
“and there are also many other things that Jesus (does), which, if they were written one by one, I suppose not even the world itself could contain the books that would be written.”
Your son is “paying forward” in a perfect way, the way of Christ. Amen
Yes! God is good in all circumstances even when we don’t see it. I was ready to give my son to God either here on earth or in heaven. It is truly miraculous what God can do through Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
I hear the call of the Father for the deliverance of a Nation. Help us Father to see “it is in repentance and rest is our salvation, in quietness and trust is our strength.” Set Your people free that we can say as Jesus “the enemy has no hold on me”. Nothing is impossible with You. You are the Lord, God Sabaoth! In You we put our Trust and deliverance. Set Your People Free and prepare as a people to be set free of all things that so easily entangle us, but You Lord Jesus endured the cross that we would not grow weary or lose heart.
Father, forgive us as a nation from our addictions to drugs. Change our hearts. I pray you would intervene and bring people to you that they may have life. I pray for our border and those who are illegally entering and many bringing drugs. I ask that you would close our border so the evil may cease.
