IFA has updated this excerpt to highlight the provisions of the legislation, rather than political infighting. Florida passed legislations aimed at ending the abuse of the legal system through countless lawsuits. Some believe that this action has been much needed and that litigiousness has driven up the cost of health care and all kinds of insurance in our nation.

Mr. DeSantis last Friday signed legislation that will reduce legal costs for businesses, insurers and their customers. Litigation abuse is a tax that every citizen pays into the tort system, costing each Florida household more than $5,000 in 2020, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform.
Enter Mr. DeSantis, who this year proposed a package of tort reforms to curb abuses. Several changes target plaintiff attorneys’ common practice of inflating damages by presenting to juries the charges for medical costs billed by healthcare providers rather than what health insurers would pay out, which is typically much less.
Collusive agreements between physicians and lawyers to inflate charges will no longer be protected by attorney-client privilege. Lawyers could previously ensure that juries saw only the inflated amounts billed by their hand-picked doctors, and juries often based awards on those trumped-up bills.
Florida law also previously allowed juries to allocate damages even for accidents caused by a plaintiff. If someone burned himself by spilling hot coffee on his lap, a coffee shop could be on the hook for paying some of his medical costs. No longer. Now if a plaintiff is found to be more than 50% at fault, he can’t recover damages.
Another change eliminates “one-way attorney fees,” which let plaintiffs collect massive attorney fees from defendants and their insurers if they win a lawsuit—but not the other way around. One-way fees encourage plaintiff attorneys to file more lawsuits and defendants to settle cases to avoid paying even larger legal bills.
Plaintiff attorneys last week rushed to file claims before Mr. DeSantis signed the legislation since the changes aren’t retroactive. Over three days last week, Morgan & Morgan says it filed 23,000 cases, 3,000 more than in all of 2022. Some lawyers may move north to Georgia, which the American Tort Reform Association last year rated as the country’s worst judicial hellhole.
The Georgia Legislature has defeated several efforts to curb lawsuit abuse, but maybe Mr. DeSantis’s victory will prod Gov. Brian Kemp to take up the cause.

Father, in the name of Jesus, have mercy on me, forgive and cleanse me, and help me to be a strong and effective intercessor for righteousness and justice in our nation, in our politicians, our legislators, and every area of life and influence that affect hard working, over taxed Americans who bear the burden while the rich and elite get off without paying their fair share. Father correct all those injustices, Father support Gov. DeSantis in his wise and righteous effort and raise up leaders for the other states to follow suit. We thank you and praise you that you hear and answer our prayers.

I am all for the new legislation. Insurance companies are passing the losses on to consumers that had nothing to do with the lawsuits.
I have total admiration for Governor DeSantis and thank him for having the courage to stand up for what is right for the citizens of Florida. I wish the other Governors would quit being afraid and do what is right for their citizens!!! They are weak and afraid!!!
I still remember getting ripped off some years back through a construction contract that did not pay me. My attorney suggested I walk away from a 55K invoice, that we urgently needed paid to stop foreclosure on my house and truck. I did walk away, and lost my house and truck. The legal system did not support my case at that time.

Thank you Lord for leaders like Gov. DeSantis! A man of character and principles. I am not a resident of Florida, but I pray you raise more leaders like him around this country. My faith is in You and You alone, but I thank you for leaders who even though are not perfect, demonstrate in what they say and do that they honor you and the responsibility you have given them. I pray for him and for more followers of Jesus to open their eyes to see the importance of electing leaders who demonstrate with words and actions their fear of the Lord above fear of man or their own selfish desires.

I was severely injured by a medical product in 2009. I was part of a mass tort. There is not enough money to pay for a ruined life. There are some frivolous law suits and there are some that are needed to keep big pharma accountable. Yes, lawyers and doctors made out. The average injured woman received $5,000. That does not cover medical costs. I’ve had 24 surgeries to try to correct the damage done. We need a better way.

It is about time that we stop the abuse. There are too many people abusing the systems and we all pay so that the attorneys get richer. Also there are a lot of crooked doctors who are taking part of the scam.
We are SO THANKFUL that Gov. DeSantis is truly working for us, the people of Florida! [We know he would make an amazing president, but at the same time, we surely would hate to lose him as our Governor. But, let us not be selfish and keep him “all to ourself.” God, please impart great wisdom to our governor in the weeks ahead.
Lord please help more candidates like the governor of Florida get elected. We have too many leaders who care more about money and power than serving the people. We need good government at the city, county, state and national levels. Help us Lord, especially now in Chicago. Amen.
Difficult to know the impact that will have on people. I wish fighting in courts against pharma over Covid vax had not been stripped away from people, as these 2 last years have shown us that could have stopped them on their tracks when injuries and deaths started to pile up.
It is time for those 2 men , President Trump and Governor DeSantis, who are both working passionately for the people to realize they are on the same side, and stop fighting against each other. If governor De Santis has what it takes to be president, it is not his time yet as he still has to fulfill his term to the Floridians. There is still much to do in Florida. This helps limits some costs, but I think he should have also limited the amounts lawyers could collect from their clients, that would limit the frivolous lawsuits to some extent. This is a good start but does not go far enough.
I think people have been encouraged by lawyers to sue sue sue because of course it benefits them hugely. It’s time to stop the ridiculous lawsuits. Like the lady that spilled hot coffee on herself. There are responsibilities and rights and our courts are glossing over adult responsibilities and inflating rights.

I believe we should always spend time seeking the heart of God and with that will come great discernment, knowledge, and favor, not because we are worthy because when we’re really seeking the heart of God he will give us Divine wisdom and visions and knowledge. Jaime, not sure I agree on every point, particularly concerning it’s too late. Only God the Father knows the hour. I never give up hope! One reluctant man, Jonah, finally obeyed God & a nation was saved…for a 100 years. Yes judgement came, but because every human & animal fasted & repented, that generation was spared. So it can be with ours if we are willing to do the same. I do agree: the evil is pervasive! And current events signal impending demise of the US, most recently several nations’’ economic agreements that will devalue if not collapse the dollar (Russia-China deal, Brazil, Mexico, even Japan). So yes, the ultimate judgment WILL come, according to God’s plan for the End of the Times of the Gentiles. Yet He still gives us free will & yes, He keeps His promises. That includes the promise to destroy evil & establish true justice in the reign of Jesus Christ on the earth! I can’t wait! His bride will be rescued, but that doesn’t mean it won’t get pretty uncomfortable for her while she’s waiting. But until then, I’m with you! IFA needs to stop polarizing & politicizing. They did cite the news source and say some believe this, some believe that. However, to present a one-sided piece & fail to equally cite the opposing view, & then devote 90% of the article to that one view, IFA appears biased & political. They need to stick to God’s Word and prayer for ALL!

But more and more I find them to be fear mongering and divisional. Maybe try spending more time on the answer — GOD’s WORD, and less time telling us every little minute detail of what YOU believe we need to know. Sounds wonderful to me. Lawsuits have ruined our country. I don’t understand why Donald Trump hates DeSantis. Seems like they should be working together to change this country. I think Ron Desantis is doing a wonderful job as governor of Florida. Hopefully, this is the kind of reform that is needed and not a bailout of the insurance companies. Considering some of the things that hospitals did during the covid plandemic, such as using medicine that Fauci required (which killed people) and the isolation of patients who couldn’t have family with them when they passed away, I think maybe they should be able to sue the hospitals responsible for these kinds of things. Which would be most hospitals.

So true Ms Mary. Florida revoked hospital liability protection over COVID treatment last year. Now they can be held accountable for with holding treatments and for pushing the Fauci protocols!
