I Prayed have prayed
God, we lift up Turkey and Syria before You. Help them in their time of need, Father, and turn the peoples' eyes toward You.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Over 4,000 people have been killed already, and far more are injured. In this time of crisis for these countries, we must be praying.

From The Wall Street Journal. Rescuers launched a frantic search for survivors trapped under collapsed buildings across swaths of Turkey and Syria after two powerful earthquakes and their aftershocks shook much of the Middle East, killing more than 4,300 people and destroying thousands of homes.

Pray for your fellow intercessor.

Civilians clawed through rubble with bare hands to reach loved ones screaming from beneath the debris after a 7.8-magnitude quake on Monday morning was followed by a series of aftershocks and then a separate 7.5-magnitude quake in the afternoon. The quakes were Turkey’s worst seismic event in decades, rocking an area around the city of Gaziantep that is home to millions of Turkish citizens, displaced Syrians and refugees. …

The first earthquake struck at 4:17 a.m. in the middle of a winter storm and wrought destruction across a swath of the country running for hundreds of miles near Turkey’s border with Syria. At least 2,921 people died in Turkey, the country’s health ministry said, with at least 14,000 injured and more than 5,600 buildings collapsed. Search teams had rescued almost 2,500 people caught under debris. …

The earthquake could cause up to 10,000 fatalities and initial damages of $1 billion in economic losses, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. That estimate is from an automated system that collects seismic data from remote sensors. The USGS estimates the 7.5-magnitude aftershock could lead to an additional $100 million to $1 billion in economic losses and between 100 and 1,000 fatalities.

In Syria, the disaster shook a region that houses millions of people displaced by the country’s civil war, including many living in makeshift camps. It came during a brutal economic crisis in the country and a cholera outbreak, striking an area with limited hospitals or other infrastructure.

The earthquakes in Syria killed about 1,400 people in the Aleppo region and several other areas of Syria, according to the Syrian Civil Defense organization, known as the White Helmets, and the Health Ministry affiliated with the government in Damascus. …

Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said the country had declared its highest state of emergency which “includes a call for international help.” Mr. Erdogan said his government had received offers of aid and assistance from 45 countries along with the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, of which Turkey is a member.

President Biden ordered USAID and other government agencies to assess a possible American relief response to help those most in need, said national security adviser Jake Sullivan. …

Some of the worst destruction took place in Idlib, a province of northern Syria that is held by rebels and is home to millions of people who were forced to flee their homes during the war elsewhere in Syria. The White Helmets said on Monday afternoon, some 12 hours after the initial earthquake, that hundreds of families were still unaccounted for across rebel-held northern Syria.

The region’s hospitals, already ill-equipped to handle the influx of displaced people, struggled to cope, according to relief workers and residents. …

Father, may the people of Turkey and Syria fear You as Your compassion is being poured out. As Your Word says, ‘Your lovingkindness is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear You.” (Psalm 103:17, NASB). Bless You Lord, oh my soul. Thank You for Your comfort and help. Father, we pray for believers in these areas, and for ourselves, to properly interpret and apply what Your Word says about such events in Luke 21, Matthew 24, and Mark 13. We pray for wisdom to stay true to Your Word and not be swayed by sensationalism. Especially those in Turkey and Syria who are already under such emotional stress. May Your Truth be known and may truth prevail.

Dear Father- Please help all the people in this region. Send aid there quickly from the surrounding nations. May all of the survivors be found and cared for. Comfort those who have lost family members. Heal all those who are injured. May there be a supernatural outpouring of help, especially from your people, that there would be a great testimony to you faithfulness and provision for all people.
