The Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List announced its support Tuesday for legislation in the Florida Legislature that would stop late abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, according to a press release by the organization.
The bill, H.B. 5 and S.B. 146, introduced by State Representative Erin Grall and State Senator Kelli Stargel, would be the strongest protections for unborn children and their mothers in state history if enacted, the press release states.
“We urge the Florida Legislature to swiftly pass and send to Governor DeSantis’s desk this groundbreaking pro-life legislation that would finally end brutal late-term abortions in the Sunshine State,” SBA List State Policy Director Sue Liebel said in a statement. “Abortions after 15 weeks are gruesome and inhumane for unborn children and increasingly dangerous for the mother with every passing week. We commend Senator Kelli Stargel and Representative Erin Grall, both members of Susan B. Anthony List’s National Pro-Life Women’s Caucus, for their strong leadership. Governor DeSantis is a strong pro-life leader and we look forward to seeing him swiftly sign this bill into law.”
Among states that report late-term abortion rates, Florida has the third-highest number in the U.S., with more than 900 late-term abortions a year, the press release notes…. (Excerpts from the the Star-News Network)
