In San Juan, a group of students took their diagnostic tests this semester amid power outages and running from room to room due to Internet connection problems. In Arecibo, a third grade did not have a teacher until a couple of weeks ago, in their first face-to-face semester since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic . In Yauco, young people from a high school manage to complete their courses, while suffering the slow response of the authorities in the repair of schools affected by earthquakes. The foregoing is just a sample of the gloomy scenario described by representatives of the various sectors of the school community of the public educational system of Puerto Rico, from teachers to external observers and students, during the first dialogue of the Table of Work for Education, convened by Alexandra Lúgaro , executive director of the Center for Strategic Innovation of the Foundation for Puerto Rico organization .

As a result of the dialogue, in which some thirty organizations and leaders of the school community participated, priorities were established on which action is urgently needed for an effective educational system. Entities such as Educate, Join, the Special Education Steering Committee, the New School Institute, the Public Education Observatory of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Ciencia PR, among others, participated in the Roundtable….
