Nurse Sues CVS Pharmacy for Firing Her Over Religious Beliefs About Killing the Unborn

Robyn Strader, a pro-life nurse practitioner who worked at a CVS MinuteClinic in Texas since 2015, filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment and Opportunity Commission last February after CVS revoked her religious accommodation to exempt her from dispensing drugs that could induce abortions.

After CVS decided to end religious accommodations, Strader was told she no longer had one. She requested another. CVS fired her instead. The company claimed that exempting her from dispensing drugs that could kill unborn babies presented an undue hardship, although Strader said she referred people to another nurse in the store or to a different location two miles away. She said no one ever complained.

Strader has now filed a lawsuit against CVS. From her counsel, the First Liberty Institute:

In the complaint attorneys state, “In addition to prospectively preempting all requests for religious accommodations, CVS unlawfully derided Ms. Strader’s religious beliefs, pressured her to change her beliefs, refused to consider her multiple requests for a religious accommodation, failed to engage with her about possible accommodations, and terminated her because of her religious beliefs.”… (Excerpt from Black Community News)
