New York City to Drop Masking in Schools, Some Vaccine Rules for Businesses

New York City will drop requirements for people to wear masks in schools and for patrons of restaurants and other businesses to show proof of vaccination, changes that coincide with a continuing drop in Covid-19 cases, Mayor Eric Adams said Friday.
Starting on Monday, students and staff in K-12 public schools will no longer be required to wear masks indoors, Mr. Adams said. Masks will continue to be required for children and staff in child-care settings for children ages 4 and younger, city officials said.
Other requirements, like maintaining spacing among students in cafeterias, will remain for now, Dave Chokshi, New York City’s departing health commissioner, said at a press conference. The city’s Education Department had said in a message to parents that social-distancing rules would be lifted on Monday, before a City Hall spokesman later clarified that they would be phased out over time.
Businesses may still require masks or proof of vaccination, and students may still wear masks if they choose, officials said. New York City will also continue to require businesses to ensure employees working in person are vaccinated… (Excerpt from the Wall Street Journal)
