Republican Party of Virginia (RPV) faithful are gathered at a Hilton outside Washington, D.C. to build on the momentum of their 2021 wins and help their 2022 congressional candidates. Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears kicked off the Advance on Friday at a reception held by the Virginia Federation of Republican Women.
Earle-Sears regaled the crowd with stories from the recent General Assembly session. Governor Glenn Youngkin once confused State Senator Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth) with State Senator Mamie Locke (D-Hampton,) leading Lucas to rib Youngkin about it on Twitter.
“And then a curious thing happened: I started mixing her up with Mamie,” Earle-Sears said to laughter. “I would call, ‘The Senator from Hampton, Senator Lucas.’ They got mad.”
Earle-Sears continued, “And then another curious thing happened: I started mixing up Senator Saslaw with [Senator] Janet Howell. And then finally, he got upset, and then he said, ‘Me Saslaw, she Howell!’”
The lieutenant governor honored the candidates who ran in 2021 and highlighted their labor.
She said, “Why are we doing this? Because it can’t be just to win an election. There has to be something behind it. And you do it because you believe in this country. You believe in the ultimate goodness of this country.”
Earle-Sears ended with a warning about education.
“For me, education has now risen to DEFCON five. It’s a national security issues. that’s how we have to see it. It is a national security issue when your population is either uneducated or under-educated,” she said…. (Excerpt from The Virginia Star)
