“Lifemark,” Kirk Cameron’s new film celebrating adoption, brought large audiences to the box office on opening weekend.

CBN News reports the film, which opened Friday, made more than $2 million in ticket sales, coming in at number three at the box office.

“We’re thrilled at the numbers we’re seeing for LIFEMARK this past weekend,” said Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events. “They not only represent a big success for Fathom, The Kendrick Brothers and Kirk Cameron Entertainment, but they also go to show the value that faith-based content brings to both theater owners and moviegoers alike.”

Starring Cameron and produced by the Kendrick Brothers (“War Room,” “Fireproof”), the movie celebrates the life-giving choice of adoption through the true story of Louisiana native David Scotton. Adopted as an infant, Scotton grows up in a loving home. At age 18 and about to graduate high school, he unexpectedly receives a message from his birth mother, asking to meet him….

The film runs through Sept. 15 in about 1,500 theaters across the U.S. Watch the trailer here.
