Lawsuit Challenges Florida Law Restricting Teaching About Sexual Orientation

A group of plaintiffs including parents and students filed a lawsuit Thursday morning challenging Florida’s law restricting teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity in public schools.
The suit argues that the Parental Rights in Education law—which opponents have dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill—is unconstitutionally vague and violates principles of free speech and equal protection. Filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida in Tallahassee, the lawsuit seeks an injunction barring the law from taking effect.
“This law harkens back, sadly, to some of the worst laws that have been passed in our country,” including those that led to segregation, said Roberta Kaplan, an attorney for the plaintiffs. “It’s inconsistent with and hostile to our constitutional principles.”… (Excerpt from the Wall Street Journal)
