General Motors said it idled its Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas, around 1 p.m. Wednesday and that most of the 2,000 workers across two shifts there will be laid off indefinitely.

The layoff is a result of the UAW’s strike at GM’s Wentzville Assembly Plant in Missouri. GM builds its midsize pickups and cargo vans at Wentzville and the plant also does stamping work for Fairfax. GM builds the Cadillac XT4 SUV and the Chevrolet Malibu sedan at Fairfax Assembly. (Excerpt from Detroit Free Press.)
