Felipe VI , King of Spain , arrived in Puerto Rico this Monday afternoon for a three-day visit in which he will participate in the activities of the Fifth Centennial of the founding of the city of San Juan , as well as an economic summit.

The 53-year-old monarch arrived at the Muñiz Base around 5:35 pm and about thirteen minutes later he set foot on Puerto Rican soil. He was received on a red carpet by Governor Pedro Pierluisi . Later, the anthems of Spain, Puerto Rico and the United States were heard.

His arrival in Puerto Rico coincides with the demolition this morning of the statue of the colonizer and first governor of the archipelago, the Spaniard Juan Ponce de León , from its pedestal in Plaza San José, in Old San Juan.

Felipe VI, as reported, will have an agenda focused on developing international business relations with Puerto Rico. Among the activities that will be attended is a business summit between Spain and Puerto Rico with businessmen from both countries… (Excerpt from El Nuevo Dia)
