Philadelphia police officers’ quick response to a tragic weekend shooting resulted in an unborn baby’s life being saved.

NBC Philadelphia reports the baby’s pregnant mother, Matayah Haynes, 19, of Camden, New Jersey, died after being shot on a street early Saturday morning in Philadelphia.

When officers realized she was pregnant and her unborn baby was alive, the Philadelphia Police Department said they immediately rushed her to Temple University Hospital. There, doctors removed the premature, 34-week baby boy from his mother’s womb, saving his life, according to the report.
