Many Christians have never heard of Scott Newgent or the Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF), but in our efforts to protect America’s women and children, it would be beneficial to find out who they are. Perhaps we could work with like-minded people and organizations who embrace issues we hold in common, like defining “women” as a distinct sex instead of “those who identify as women.” We could also protect the children of this nation who are tangled in the confusing soup of “sexual identity” promoted in our public schools. I believe we are in a struggle that will be won by uniting in areas where we agree with those who have viable testimonies and resources we do not have. The two examples mentioned here are Scott Newgent and WoLF.

Scott Newgent’s recent Newsweek article gives a first-hand, painful account of the harm caused by undergoing multiple irreversible surgeries to transition from a woman to a man. The story is a heartfelt cry for all of us to pray and reach out to gender-questioning children before they are caught up in irreversible, life-threatening treatments and surgeries.

One liberal organization not afraid to speak out for women’s rights is the Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF). On President Biden’s first day in office, he signed the Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation. WoLF quickly issued a press release condemning the order. WoLF’s reason: the order eliminates “women” as a distinct category and is replaced with those who “identify as women.”

On February 8, 2021, the Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF) also submitted a Petition for Rulemaking to the US Department of Education to protect women and girls’ Title IX rights. (Title IX directly relates to the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964 that prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin in the areas of employment and public accommodations.) The petition states that “sex” refers to biological sex – male or female. “Gender identity” refers to self-identification and not a person’s biological sex. Finally, the First Amendment prohibits discrimination based on biological “sex” and not “gender identity.” WOLF’s website gives a comprehensive overview of the destructive policies the Biden Executive Order would permit.

President Biden’s Executive Order overturns the 2020 opinion President Trump’s Department of Education Title IX ruling that defined sex as a male or female. In President Trump’s order, biological women were to have separate bathrooms, sports competitions, facilities in homeless shelters, and separate prisons and jails.

Within Biden’s order, all federally funded agencies have 100 days to create new regulations to change all references to “sex” to “sexual orientation” or “gender identity.” Specific to women, the new regulations are to change the sexual category of “women” to those who “identify as women,” thereby eliminating “women” as a separate category.

The lack of regard for biological women in public schools was reaffirmed by President Biden’s newly appointed Secretary of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona, who is entirely on board with the new directive. Dr. Cardona stated that he would not enforce President Trump’s directive to define sex as a male or female. Instead, Dr. Cardona and the new Department of Education will address sex as related to “sexual identity.” The new definition gives public school counselors permission to advise and refer students who question their biological gender to seek medical advice, directing them to doctors who could administer hormone treatment or irreversible sex altering surgeries.

Scott Newgent and WoLF are not the only ones speaking out against Biden’s EO; many other prominent elected officials have expressed their disapproval. The list includes a growing number of Senators, Governors, state legislatures, local school boards, nonprofits, right-leaning organizations, and those on the left.

For years Christians have stood strong to define sex as a male or female and to warn about the harm of transgendering children. Today we have others who have powerful voices with whom we can join on this issue. There is a lot we can do. We can tell Scott’s personal story. We can also write our congressional representatives on both the federal and local levels. We must voice our opinions at school board meetings and town halls. We are not in this fight alone, but we are a large portion of the resistance. We can, and should, join our voices with others to create a mass resistance to government orders that undermine women and consequently the backbone of our nation: the family!
