In a rapid-fire set of tweets, President Trump on Monday threatened to pull the Republican National Committee’s nominating convention from Charlotte if North Carolina’s Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper doesn’t commit to easing virus restrictions by the August event.

“Unfortunately, Democrat Governor, @RoyCooperNC, is still in Shutdown mood & unable to guarantee that by August we will be allowed full attendance in the Arena,” Trump tweeted. “In other words, we would be spending millions of dollars building the Arena to a very high standard without even knowing if the Democrat Governor would allow the Republican Party to fully occupy the space.”

Trump said Republicans making plans to go to Charlotte for the convention “must be immediately given an answer by the Governor as to whether or not the space will be allowed to be fully occupied. If not, we will be reluctantly forced to find, with all of the jobs and economic development it brings, another Republican National Convention site.”

The GOP convention is slated for Aug. 24-27 in Charlotte, a week after the Democratic National Convention planned for Milwaukee. Both parties have been debating how to stage the events in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

Cooper has faced the ire of Trump before.

Earlier this month in an interview with the Washington Examiner, the president accused Cooper of “playing politics” with his state’s slow effort to end virus restrictions.

“It’s got a Democrat governor, so we have to be a little bit careful with that, because they’re playing politics. They’re playing politics, as you know, by delaying the openings,” Trump said. “To me that’s politics. They think it’s a bad thing for me if they delay the opening. I think it’s bad for them. And you have people protesting outside, and those people like Trump.”

The governor’s office responded by saying the state was simply following the White House pandemic advice.

“As the Governor said, pandemics cannot be political,” Cooper spokeswoman Sadie Weiner responded. “North Carolina is using the data and the science based on White House guidance to inform our three-phased approach to lifting restrictions. The health and safety of North Carolinians is the top priority as we battle COVID-19.”

It is in my honest opinion that our President must move the convention to another State. I am a Texan and would love to have it here. We also are doing fine. Another possibility is Florida which is also doing fine.

We shall be praying our Lord will guide our President in making the correct decision for this convention. My prayer is also that our President will seek the Lord’s advice, just as David did so many times, regarding this.

At some point this nation is going to have to come together and work together to unify our efforts to be America once again! Rogue governors who have their own agendas, revealed or camouflaged, are hindering us from finding the way back from this pandemic situation for all Americans. Cooperation needs to accompany caution! If this governor does not want a full convention in his state, he just needs to say so, and tell the Republicans to find another venue. It’s that simple.

Move GOP convention. How about Florida panhandle. It is just a few miles from Alabama.

Move it! Tired of playing politics with Democratic Governors. If they want to lose all the revenue to their state coffers by playing this silly game…move on to a state that is open and will welcome people!

Heavenly Father, I come to YOU in the mighty name of JESUS, asking for You to direct all the events of the Republican and Democratic Conventions. Father, thank You for Pres. Trump’s strong stand for YOU in stopping abortions, protecting our nation, and keeping our freedom of religion. I pray that the TRUTH will be made known concerning the corona virus, and that the medications, opening the lock down, and returning our workforce back to their jobs will all go well. May we also return to our churches to worship YOU.
I pray for Pres. Trump, VP Pence, “and all who are in authority, that we might live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” as Your Word says in 1 Timothy 2:1-4. Let Thy Kingdom come and let Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. For YOU are the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory forever and ever. Amen

I pray my governor will set our state of NC free from these unconstitutional restrictions ASAP. I know the Lord directs the hearts of leaders (Proverbs 21:1) and we deserve this judgment by the Democrats for our sins for we have sowed to the wind in NC and are reaping the whirlwind (Hosea 8:7). However, because of the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross, I ask for mercy and these restrictions be removed (I Corinthians 15:3-4). In Jesus name (John 16:23-24). Amen. http://www.sturzchristiancounseling.com
