I Prayed have prayed
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Sometimes, it’s not until we get face-to-face with the devil, that we realize the true source of the battle and learn to take our stand…

The Lord recently reminded me of an experience my daughter had several years when she was on a 3-month mission assignment in Haiti. She emailed me one morning about a nightmare she had. In the dream, she was in an army unit, driving through the darkness, when they were ambushed by natives practicing witchcraft. She heard a demon cry out, “YOU BETTER RUN, AMERICAN!” She woke up with a tangible spirit of fear in her room which she quickly stood against, declaring God’s peace.

As we prayed into this together, we sensed this was a spirit of fear and intimidation at work – threatening her confidence, her faith, and her heritage. She said, “As soon as the demon yelled at me, I woke up with fear. I turned on worship music and closed my eyes. All the sudden I saw my guardian angel…come into my room. Then I saw the demon’s face looking at me. I thought at first it was an angel, but I had this mixed feeling and as it came closer, I said, ‘NO! You are not from God!’ And, quickly my guardian angel took his spear and killed it.”

This is precisely what deceiving spirits do – they cause you to think they are from God when they’re not. It’s hard to discern because there’s always an element of truth mixed with the lies; light mixed with shadows. Unfortunately, we don’t always recognize this. As we processed this more, she remarked, “I think the Lord was saying to me that I need to use my discernment more. Some things we think are good are not and it’s NOT UNTIL THEY GET RIGHT UP IN YOUR FACE that you see it’s not from God.”

What my daughter learned is a valuable lesson. We need to use discernment and see things through eyes of faith and not of fear. In God’s wisdom, He will even let the enemy get in our face if it helps us to see who he really is and sharpen our spiritual perception. The enemy may think he’s getting the upper hand, but in the end, God actually uses him to open our eyes and empower our voice.

On a national level, it seems as if the enemy is getting right in our face. All the forces of darkness seem to have been let out of their cages in hopes of taking us down as a nation and as a Church. The witchcraft at work in high places is stirring the atmosphere and causing many to feel the effects of demonic rebellion and deceiving spirits. Perhaps that’s exactly what we need. In God’s mercy and grace, He is allowing the enemy center stage to bring him out of the shadows and into the light. If there has been any doubt as to the underlying agendas from hell and demonic manipulation of truth, we are now seeing it in the open as never before.

Thankfully, the threats of subjection and demands for control have little power against a true follower of Jesus Christ. If we have properly built up our spirit man and filled our hearts with God’s truth, it takes but a word for the enemy to be silenced and expelled. Instead of giving in to doubt or fear, the Spirit-empowered child of God can simply remind the enemy of who he is in the light of whose we are.

Regardless of the darkness that seems to be covering the land, there is One whose light is stronger and whose presence is greater. The seeming attention the devil is getting these days is simply serving God’s greater purpose in revealing the light to those lost in the shadows. Rather than questioning our role or compromising our position, it is precisely the time to declare His Lordship and our right to rule and reign with Him.

Let the devil get in our face! When we have fixed our gaze on the Lord of Hosts and spent time in His holy presence, it is HIS face the devil will see when he looks in our eyes. It is when the devil gets in our face that he will be confronted with the One who lives inside us and the fire of His presence will go forth and the enemy will have nowhere to go but to melt like wax at our feet.

All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:11-13 NIV)

I appreciate all these comments about the enemy. It is critical that we hang tight to His Word — knowing what the Bible says and measuring everything we read or hear against His Words. Father God, it is my prayer that we will continue to hide Your Words in our hearts and give us wisdom to understand what we hear daily. That we would always examine and follow ‘Your Words’ and not the words and interpretations of the enemy. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.

Father,
i thank You for even for the challenges which lead us into greater understanding of Your nature and our strength, safety and security as we abide in You. Thank You that it has always been Your plan that like JESUS says in John 17, HE is in us and YOU, Father, are in Him, that we may be PERFECTED in unity, that the world may know that You, Father sent JESUS and did LOVE US even as You Love JESUS, Thank You Father for the understanding that as we believe this truth that we are in You, we are not only united with our brothers and sisters, but more importantly we are united with and in YOU! Acts 17 tells us first that YOU give us life and breath and all things and goes on to say that in You we live, move and have our being. Open the eyes of our understanding, Father, and teach us how to walk in that Truth of abiding in You, the LIVING, UNCONQUERABLE Word made Flesh in JESUS. We desire not only to understand what it means, but we desire to show by our works, which are empowered by Holy Spirit, that there, indeed, is a Place in which we may dwell that is free from anything/anyone, and everything that is contrary to Your nature. There are no demons in JESUS; there is no darkness in JESUS; there is no sickness in JESUS; there is nothing that can exist in His presence except those who have accepted the salvation and freedom offered from and through His Blood. We acknowledge that there are all kinds of ungodly manifestations. Accordingly, Father, we need to face, challenge and reject our fear (which we know is not of You) to see and walk in the reality of our “Abode” in You in order to recognize that lies are mere “smoke and mirrors” (despite what we see, feel and fear) and those lies have no power against us when we understand the nature of our Abode. Praise to YOU, LORD JESUS that Yours is the Victory that imparts to us the opportunities to demonstrate that we are more than conquerors. And, it is because of what You have done and provided for us. We love You, LORD and we thank You for the revelation that You continue to bring through Wanda and her family. Continue to enrich them in every way. To YOU alone, be all honor and thanksgiving as it is for Your sake, Your glory, Your “unconquerableness” and in Your marvelous Name that we pray. AMEN

I agree that our fight is ‘against blood and flesh’ but against the powers of darkness. I would suggest to the one attacked by a demon that we should always audibly command the demon to depart IN THE NAME OF JESUS! We need to speak audibly this command. The demons can’t endure the Name of Jesus, so SPEAK THE COMMAND AUDIBLY. I do this every time I fell under attack and also every time I go out evangelizing at a train station.

Father God, we pray that You would continue to open the eyes of Your church and sharpen our spiritually discerning eyes to the tricks and snares of the evil one. We know that You have given us the authority to trample upon all the power of the enemy and no harm shall come to us. We ask, Lord, that You would continue to reveal and expose his tricks, shining Your righteous light into the deceptions and lies of the evil one, banishing and casting out the forces of darkness. Please continue to teach us greater discernment, Lord, as we take up the full Armor of God and with prayer and the power of Your Word as our weapons in this warfare. Thank you, Father, for Your Almighty hand upon us. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.

The enemy will always try to block our receiving any information or instructions especially when he knows that it will accelerate his defeat! I even received a phony error message when I first tried to read this precious article! May God continue to bless you mightily IFA even as He raises up more Spirit-filled prayer warriors to advance His Kingdom.

We are in the thick of spiritual warfare. I must be much more alert and ready, wearing the full armor of God, and armed with all prayer, to pray without ceasing.
