I Prayed have prayed
Father God, thank You for Becky Currie, who took seriously the command to "rescue those who are perishing." Help us do the same.
Reading Time: 4 minutes

In 1973 the Roe v. Wade decision made the U.S. one of the most dangerous places in the world for the unborn. This decision catalyzed prayer for the nation and was a major impetus for the birth of Intercessors for America. From the beginning, IFA acknowledged that abortion violates God’s law and started praying for the reversal of Roe.

As I have prayed for the end of abortion on demand in America and led a national network in praying against this great evil, I always had a sense that we were praying for someone. I felt that someone would have to set things in motion somehow to spark an end to Roe v. Wade. So, as millions upon millions of us prayed for decades, we were all praying for someone to do something. And these were not once-in-a-while prayers; they were daily prayers.

While we were praying for someone through the ups and downs of life, God was answering, orchestrating events, protecting, nudging. This is just the kind of unlikely story that God specializes in.

Becky Currie was a high school sophomore in Mississippi in 1973, participating in her first political race (after being encouraged by a female lawyer): a run for student government.

Some years later, Becky was working her way through nursing school when she was faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Although some were urging her to abort the baby, God captured her heart to protect the life of her unborn daughter. Imagine how all the prayers to save many lives in the aftermath of Roe also saved this one life.

Once she finished nursing school, Becky began working in labor and delivery (which she continues to do today). She still cries tears of joy and appreciation every time a baby is born, a reflection of the heart of God for each life.

As millions prayed for her, she went through many trials in her life, but she always felt God speak to her, even during her days growing up in the Baptist church. Regardless of what she went through, she always felt close to God.

In 2007, she began considering a run for state office. She prayed: “Lord, show me if I should run. If this is of You, let me know.” Then, she went knocking on every door across three counties.

She believed that if her election wasn’t anointed, it would not happen. As president of IFA, I know how important it is to pray for elected officials. Since the beginning of this organization, we have prayed for godly people to win elections and to serve well. How many times has our view of this been shortsighted? I wonder how often our prayers have been answered but we don’t know it, because this may involve people like Becky, whose impact isn’t recognized for years?

Becky did win election in 2007, and she continues to serve in the Mississippi legislature. Throughout her tenure, she has sponsored a number of bills to protect life. She has always counted on God’s voice to direct her.

In 2016 she wrote and sponsored the Gestational Age Act (GAA). The origins of this particular bill were in a personal experience Becky had as a labor and delivery nurse: She had helped deliver a 15-week-old baby who fought desperately to live. That brave little baby inspired Becky to propose a law that would outlaw abortions after 15 weeks.

Although Becky had been involved with dozens of pro-life bills, she knew that this particular bill was going to go to the Supreme Court as a challenge to Roe, and so it did. Some may wonder how she knew this. But for a woman who had been tuned to the voice of the Lord since her childhood, it was really not surprising. She had a deep sense that this bill was special, and she was proved right.

The law was challenged by pro-abortion providers in the state, as all pro-life laws are. And it went all the way to the Supreme Court. In the years and months before the oral arguments, the Supreme Court had changed dramatically. Those progressive justices who were determined to keep abortion on demand and to maintain the constitutionally weak Roe decision declined in number, and three new justices came in, all of whom were constitutional originalists and saw clearly the problems with Roe.

On the night before the hearing, I had the great pleasure of meeting Becky, who was honored by IFA at a prayer event. I was so nervous about meeting her. I could feel God’s presence upon her, and it was almost like I could feel the millions of prayers offered up for her. I don’t know anyone who has been the object of more prayers than Becky.

The rest is history. The hearing went well — though a draft decision was leaked to the press by someone in the court. But finally, on June 24, 2022, the legally and morally bankrupt Roe v. Wade decision was overturned by the Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson.

It has long been said that the Dobbs v. Jackson decision overturned Roe v. Wade. But that’s not the whole story; God also raised up Becky Currie to overturn Roe and He raised up hundreds of thousands of intercessors to pray for her. I believe she is the most prayed for person in the last 50 years of this nation.

Let us continue to speak out what we want in our country, speak prosperity, liberty and justice. Thanks to Dave Kubal and Becky Currie and all of IFA members and non members who pray daily for our beautiful country God gave us. Dear Heavenly Father,
We pray for the safety and health of preborns as they grow—also for those who are born alive, that they would be welcomed into the world, loved, nurtured by the Word of God, and live to fulfill their destiny.

We pray for the March for Life today that it will be an encouragement to those who are without hope—that many will repent, and receive Jesus for the forgiveness of sins.

We declare that a majority in each state will come to the truth and no longer trivialize abortion—that they will vote to protect these most vulnerable souls who cannot speak for themselves.

May God be exalted and lifted up today as His children honor and praise Him for His Creative power, and pray forth His will for His family. In Jesus name. Amen

Thank you Rep. Currie for being a voice for the unborn and listening to Jesus leading your footsteps and paths. I am so grateful for your courage and strength through our Savior to continue to stand (as he has directed) through all types of obstacles and challenges. You epitomize Psalms 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation, of whom shall I fear? The Lord is the STRENGTH of My Life, of whom shall I be afraid? Thank you again for your unwavering work in behalf of the unborn who God has fashioned and knows and I hope your story inspires the rest of us to likewise be faithful in fighting the good fight to protect the innocent and seek God for our direction.

Father we praise and honor you, my Lord we pray that this Nation has to be turned around. The life of the unborn is sacred to You , we have to stand on your word and all the lies that have been said about abortion come out to light.
They should portray in churches and public the documentary of title “ The Silent Scream “ about this dr. that after 72,000 abortions He came to the knowledge of what abortion was about. , The Lord touched His heart and became born again and all the rest of His life and his went to the prolife movement and filmed this documentary.
People have been lied about abortion, they think it is like going to the dentist. This has been taught here in America’s schools., they never tell them the emotional consequences that abortion brings in the life of a woman including men. People have been lied into this.
We can never vote for a candidate that doesn’t protect the most innocent, pure life which is the life in the womb.”
Lord help us in Jesus Mighty Name we pray.

Father God, thank You for Rep Currie’s persevering love and obedience on behalf of Your unborn children. We rejoice with You Lord for the lives that are being saved since the overturning of Roe but realize that the battle continues and that we need to persevere in Intercessory Prayer for the sanctity of every life. “Preserve those who are appointed to die..” Psalm 79:11 “To teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn.” Psalm 78 Amen in Your Life-giving Name Lord Jesus.

As I read this, I was struck by the realization that we can each be someone’s answer to prayer, if we simply live a surrendered and Holy Spirit led life. May I do so, LORD!
