There’s a revival happening among the younger generations. Have you been keeping up with Headline News at IFA? There are certainly real issues requiring your prayers, but there are also encouraging stories that you can pray into. Two articles have come out of Texas recounting how Generation Z is rising up for Jesus. IFA writer and prayer leader Remco Brommet wrote a wonderful piece too, about revival in the public schools. An 18-year-old in Massachusetts is standing up against transgenderism, by sharing the love of God and His power of true identity. Though it’s certain that the Enemy is angry and will do whatever he can to destroy the destiny of these young ones, it’s also apparent that God is hearing and answering your prayers for them. 

When a friend informed Pastor Jimn Kyles about Intercessors for America, he reached out, seeking a prayer covering for a prayer initiative he and his church had launched: 70 Days of Prayer for Gen Z. Pastor Kyles is senior pastor at Anchor Bend Church, in Richmond, Texas. He is also the father of four Gen-Z kids himself. 

This all began on May 25, when the pastor and his wife, Phyllis, were out of town and received a phone call that one of their children was in crisis. It was a wake-up call that changed everything for them. They came to realize that not even pastors are immune from the Enemy’s attacks. Pastor Kyles has spoken with many parents who cry out in desperation: “We don’t know what to do with our teenager.” In time, something began rising up from within him, saying: “I know: First, we need to connect them to the heart of God; and second, we need to help them discover God’s purpose for their life.”

He then felt compelled to mobilize his local church to pray for Gen Z. He believes that prayer should be our first response, not our last resort. And this is when he launched the 70 Days of Prayer for Gen Z initiative, in which participants pray for 30 minutes a day at noon online via a Zoom call. Currently, there are over 300 people across two countries, 12 states, and some 25 cities signed up to pray for Gen Z in Fort Bend County, of which Richmond is a part.

Pastor Kyles’ heart is to see Gen Z radically sold out for Jesus. As he and his church began to pray for Gen Z, God began to unveil His strategy to reach them in Fort Bend County. It started with a divine connection at a Fort Bend pastors’ breakfast, where Pastor Kyles met Barbara Greenfield, a seasoned intercessor and a business owner. She shared with him how God spoke to her about renting Constellation Field, in Sugar Land, Texas, on July 29, and about how He wants to move supernaturally in the lives of young people in the region. God desires for them to experience His freedom, power, and deliverance, Greenfield said. Consequently, this is why she named the event God’s Encounter 2023.  

As Kyles and Greenfield shared what God had placed upon their hearts, they realized that He was setting the table for something special in the county. It’s hard to believe that all of this was mere coincidence. God appears to have set all this up, with the 70 Days of Prayer for Gen Z launch on May 29 being a ramp-up to the God’s Encounter 2023 weekend on July 29. 

There is more. Kyles and Greenfield reached out to the Smart Financial Centre, in Sugar Land, to inquire whether the venue would be available to rent on Sunday, July 30. The idea was for a commissioning service at which those experiencing salvation the preceding night at Constellation Field could be baptized and activated to fulfill the Great Commission. So, it’s now a God’s Encounter 2023 Weekend event at Constellation Field on Saturday, July 29, at 6 p.m., and the following day at Smart Financial Centre, on Sunday, on July 30, at 10:30 a.m.

Pastor Kyles seeks intercessors who are passionate about seeing young people on fire for Jesus. Below are some ways you can  pray specifically. 

We ask that intercessors would pray that the stadium at Constellation Field on July 29 will be full of young people who need God’s salvation, freedom, power, and deliverance. The venue can hold 6,000, so we’re praying that God would fill the place to overflowing. This generation needs to know that they’ve got a Father in heaven who loves them, and that they can connect with Him through Jesus Christ. Pray that the void and longing of their hearts would be filled with the Father’s love. 

As for the baptisms, testimonies, and other blessings at Smart Financial Centre on July 30, that stadium holds 6,283; will you pray for it to be filled to overflowing as well? Pray that these youth would connect to their purpose in Christ. God does have a plan for them, but until they realize that, they will only keep pursuing what is really not for them (see Jeremiah 29:11).

Pray for a mighty outpouring of the Spirit of Elijah to turn the hearts of this generation and prepare them for the Lord (see Luke 1:17).

Anywhere the Enemy loses territory, we can expect trouble. He will try and stir up distractions to keep us preoccupied and away from what God is doing. Pray for a hedge of protection and a spiritual covering around Fort Bend County (see Psalm 91). 

Pray for a spirit of unity to prevail in Fort Bend. Pray for pastors and churches to link arms with this vision for winning Gen Z (see 1 Corinthians 1:10).

Pray that demonic principalities over the region would be defeated (see Ephesians 6:10–20).

Pray that those bound by darkness and blindness — wiccans, warlocks, muslims, agnostics, atheists, among others — would experience “Saul of Tarsus” encounters (see Acts 9:1–19). 

“God has turned his face to a generation,” says Pastor Kyles. “This is the beginning of something special across the nation. This is a prototype for what God wants to do. If it works here, we know God can do it anywhere.”  

The same way the revival in Asbury College sparked an immense hunger among young people, we believe and are praying that this event will also be a catalyst for awakening. As you faithfully intercede, you, too, have a part in what God is doing. Will you intercede with us, locking arms with the vision before you?

Let’s pray right now:

Father, we glorify Your name. Though there is darkness all around, we see You at work in the lives of Generation Z. We’ve already seen revival breaking out among them — so, Lord, please do that again. The Scripture says that wherever two or three are gathered in the name of Christ, He is right there among them. Amen. Let Encounter weekend bring forth powerful encounters with Jesus Christ that will transform the lives of the attendees. We unify our prayers, and we come into agreement with this initiative to win Gen Z for Christ and to take back what the devil has stolen. We declare that the devil cannot  and will not have our families and our children. We are taking them back. Lord, bless this initiative with lasting fruit, and stir up an insatiable hunger for Your presence among the youth in the surrounding regions and states. Amen! Let the youth and the adults say: What You did in Richmond, You can do right here in my own city! In Jesus’ name, amen.
