The latest poll released by Pew Research Center shows 65 percent of those who are Democrats and Democrat-leaners in 2019 claiming that the term “socialism” is positive.

This poll reflects the rising popularity of self-proclaimed democratic socialists, such as Bernie SandersAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib, in the Democratic Party.

These results also show a roughly eight percent increase from sentiments in 2018, where 57 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaners expressed a positive view of socialism. When examined over a longer period from 2010 to 2019, nearly 12 percent more Democrats and Democrat-leaners claim to have a more positive view of socialism.

Based on gender, race, and age, those who were women (46 percent), black (65 percent), and aged 18 to 29 (50 percent) had the highest likelihood of favoring socialism in the 2019 polls. Those with postgraduate degrees (48 percent) expressed the greatest sympathy for socialism among different educational levels.

With regards to the term “capitalism” in 2019, 55 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaners still maintain a favorable view of it. In fact, this also shows a noticeable spike given that only 47 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaners had a favorable view of capitalism in 2018.

Despite the majority support of capitalism, Democrats continue to have a more positive view of socialism compared to capitalism overall in 2019, as they did in 2018.

The poll by Pew Research Center did not define the terms “socialism” and “capitalism.” Regardless, it appears that Americans overall have a sense for what socialism is. In a Harris poll in 2018, large majorities of Americans responded that “universal healthcare” (76 percent), “tuition-free education” (72 percent), “living wages” (68 percent), and “state-controlled economies” (66 percent) are all hallmarks of socialism.

Demonstrating yet again how different the Democratic presidential candidates are from their base, Senator Bernie Sanders is the only Democratic presidential candidate describing himself as some form of socialist.

In contrast, Senator Elizabeth Warren clarified that she is not a democratic socialist; Senator Cory Booker has explicitly stated, “I am not a socialist.” Having been booed for his distaste of socialism, former Governor John Hickenlooper protested, “Democrats must say loudly and clearly that we are not socialists.”

President Trump has stated that he is “alarmed by the new calls to adopt socialism in our country” and promised that America “will never be a socialist country.”

Lord please allow the true education of the populace to occur ! May they know the evils of socialism as it is the idolatrous worship of government instead of a reliance on the true providence of God. And there is no difference really between Communism and Socialism. May they read the autobiographical short book by Alexander Solzhenitsyn “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denosivich ” or simply look at the starvation in Venezuela. Do not let the propaganda prevail, and let the truth of what happens in Socialism have sway ! May they understand that Scandinavian countries are not very socialistic in distinction to Venezuela or the old Soviet Union, and cannot be compared. Praising You Lord for what You will do. In Jesus Amen

Abba,
Please open they eyes of those who want to turn this beautiful country of Yours into one that is a Socialistic (AKA Communistic)country. Reveal to them in Your Word, Your perfect plans of a Theocracy under Your leadership. Show them how to attain perfect freedom through Your Way of life. Turn the antichrist-like efforts back on their own heads. Show every citizen of this country how we are like the proverbial frog in a pot of water which is being heated, little by little, until finally we are boiled alive. Little by little antichristian values have crept in, & Christian (moral) values have been replaced by “Secular” beliefs a little bit at a time until eventually they will accept anything, no matter how depraved or abominable. As your word says …”they each did what was right in their own eyes.” Turn every heart back to You Abba. Repeal every law that does not honor You. Crush the antichrist spirit that lives among us with the aspirations of becoming Communistic. Amen!

Father,

You have long blessed this nation with freedom and prosperity. Now there is a spirit of darkness that seeks to destroy our beautiful nation. My heart is broken over all that is happening. Please reveal to people how all of us lose freedom if socialism is implemented. It is an obvious fact that can be seen just by observing other countries who are or have been socialist. I believe that we are facing these issues because we have forgotten you. We have been serving the idols of entertainment and ease and comfort rather than seeking you and serving in your name.We have allowed the abortions to continue far too long without rising up , in one voice , and taking a stand. Churches even now are supporting abortion and the LGBTQ agenda. In wrath, remember mercy. This present generation has been fed the lies about abortion, socialism and the sexual agenda in their schools and universities. They have seen a too silent church. Please grant us an awakening. May we see that freedom isn’t free. It always has a price tag. We must be willing to pray and fight for the principles of your Word. We must be willing to stand together or we will be destroyed alone as the media attacks and vilifies our voices. Pleas expose the lie of socialism so we can continue to be one nation under God, indivisible with freedom and justice for all.

I believe there is a line between Socialism and Capitalism and it is hard to know where that line falls. I worked in mental health for several years. During that time the ‘rich got richer’ and ‘the poor got poorer.’ On the capitalism side, we must always remember that much is expected of those who have much.’ Our job was to ‘walk alongside’ generally the poor. Essentially we tried to teach them to fish — different values. to have jobs, establish and follow budgets, take good care of their physical bodies, to be educated so that they could pursue their dreams and goals. One does not enter the mental health field to get rich and become capitalistic. Still, one becomes rich when we see these people taking steps to manage their own lives and then reach out to others. It may be to encourage another person, to help with physical tasks, take giant leaps at things they never dreamed they could accomplish. You can’t take that to the bank, but I can assure you that it honors God. And along the way, perhaps you teach them to believe in God’s plan rather than their own limited plans. Sometimes Capitalists help with these things. Other times, they are too busy worshipping ‘the bottom line.’ I know that line must be hidden in there somewhere. That’s what we need to seek.

I was actually trying to affirm Kathryn ! Sorry. Although there are good points in Marilyn’s discourse, but as support for the needy should be from the church as it once was until government began to compete, there needs to be a push back against a government disallowing God into its institutions. Until freedom is allowed into the social work of government, allowing workers to pray with their clients, there needs to be a restoration of the influx of God into this profession.
