Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, clashed with a senator on Tuesday about when to reopen schools in America, acknowledging he did not have the final word on pandemic-related decisions but warning against being “cavalier” about the danger to children.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) told the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committee that some predictions put forward by experts as to the path of the pandemic are likely to be proven wrong, and challenged the wisdom of extending school closures.
“We can listen to your advice, but there are people on the other side that are saying ‘There’s not going to be a surge and we can safely open the economy.’ The facts will bear this out,” Paul said during Fauci’s testimony to the Senate committee.
“If we keep kids out of school for another year, what’s going to happen is the poor and underprivileged kids who don’t have a parent that’s able to teach them at home are not going to learn for a full year,” he said, adding that he believed it would be a “huge mistake if we don’t open the schools in the fall.”
“As much as I respect you, Dr. Fauci, I don’t think you’re the end-all,” Paul said. “I don’t think you’re the one person who gets to make a decision.”
Fauci replied, “I have never made myself out to be the end-all, or the only voice in this.”
“I’m a scientist, a physician, and a public health official. I give advice according to the best scientific evidence,” Fauci said. “I don’t give advice about economic things. I don’t give advice about anything other than public health.”
Fauci then cautioned against jumping to conclusions about a virus with respect to which the scientific community still has blind spots.
“We don’t know everything about this virus,” Fauci said. “And we’d really better be very careful, particularly when it comes to children.”
“I think we’d better be careful that we are not cavalier in thinking that children are completely immune to the deleterious effects,” Fauci said.
Fauci referred to a rare inflammatory syndrome believed to be linked to COVID-19, which has killed at least three children in New York and afflicted dozens of others. The syndrome shares symptoms with toxic shock and Kawasaki disease, which can cause inflammation of arteries of the heart.
“You’re right in the numbers that children, in general, do much, much better than adults and the elderly and particularly those with underlying conditions,” Fauci said, adding, “But I’m very careful—and hopefully humble—I don’t know everything about this disease and that’s why I’m reserved in making broad predictions.”. . .
While acknowledging the deadly nature of the virus, Paul pointed to low infection and fatality rates in many parts of the United States and urged a less centralized approach to lifting lockdowns that should take into account the specifics of each school district.
“Outside of New England, we’ve had a relatively benign course for this virus nationwide. And I think the one-size-fits-all, that we’re going to have a national strategy, that nobody is going to go to school is kind of ridiculous,” he said. . .
Icelandic scientist Kári Stefánsson, who studied the spread of COVID-19 in his country, told Science Museum Group in an interview in April that his research revealed not a single case of a child in Iceland infecting his or her parents.
“Children under 10 are less likely to get infected than adults, and if they get infected, they are less likely to get seriously ill,” Stefánsson said in the interview, which took place shortly after the publication of the study he co-authored in The New England Journal of Medicine. “What is interesting is that even if children do get infected, they are less likely to transmit the disease to others than adults. We have not found a single instance of a child infecting parents.”
If the Icelandic conclusions are sound, it would suggest that children may not be at high risk of infection from exposure to one other. The conclusions also imply that teachers may similarly be less likely to catch the virus from their students.

Soooo fed up with this so called a virusWhat a joke ! GET THIS COUNTRY BACK TO WORK!!! Let the people make their own choices. Fed up wit the crap that is going on. Our poor kids are looking at all of this and thinking just how stupid this is. OPEN UP AND LET THE PEOPLE GET BACK TO WORK AND THE KIDS BACK TO A NORMAL LIFE ! STOP SCREWING UP THE KIDS!!!! People who don’t want to go back its their choice! WHY ARE WE LETTING GOVERNORS HAVE SUCH CONTROL??????? People stand up and fight. FIRE THEM ALL AND GET THE PEOPLE WHO CARE HIRED AND WORK
First of all, I do not envy those who have to make decisions at this time. It is challenging at best. However, there are a few things I know are true:
1. Dr. Fauci has not demonstrated a concern for chiildren in the area of health. If he truly cared about children’s health he would be tireless to be sure vaccines were truly safe and effective BEFORE innoculating them. He would be tireless to find out why 1 out of 35 boys in the USA are on the Autism Sprectrum. He would be tireless to find out why we are number one among the industrial nations with infant death. So I would immediately discount Dr. Fauci’s words of concern for children.
2. Many of our founders knew what it meant to seek the strategy of heaven during times of challenge. Abraham Lincoln was clear in his concern that God not be on the side of the north, but that the north be on the side of God. George Washington wrote on his communiques, “No King, but King Jesus”. When the “right way” is unclear there is only one way to go. This is such a time. Apart from the wisdom and strategy of heaven we will fail and move from one plandemic to another. (Yes, I said plan-demic.) There is a way, a new way, we need to move as a nation. It is a plan with a future and a hope. We simply must seek the Lord who is faithful to reveal the way we need to go.
Lord God, please help medical professionals who understand the true facts about this disease & how benign it is to get the info to the president & others. May the false info that is causing fear & control over our nation be stopped. May this deceivement be stopped in Jesus name.
I awoke this morning feeling deeply troubled in my spirit about all that’s going on in the world because of the pandemic and the immense fear reports of it have unleashed in everyone, including Christians. I was praying for a solution, and just peace of mind, and the Holy Spirit brought to my mind Psalm 34 which I began to meditate on and pray. The 3rd, 21st and 22nd verses really jumped out at me today as I read them. I feel led to post it here as encouragement and as a way to pray about the current situation.
Psalm 34
1 – I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 – My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
3 – O MAGNIFY [to make large] the Lord with me, and let us EXALT [to elevate/glorify] his name together.
4 – I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
5 – They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
6 – This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 – The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
8 – O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
9 – O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
10- The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.
11- Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12- What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
13- Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

Yes, I agree with you, Donna! Psalms 34:3 is one of the gods scripture that we must pray for every needs that we have! As we magnify the Lord and exalt his name, our problem & trouble will shrink to nothing!
We agree with so many here, and Senator Paul is a doctor, and was being very wise here in his questioning, and his attitude about Dr. Fauci’s opinions about the lockdown. Dr. Fauci has been in government for decades, and is probably part of the deep state we have been at odds with for years. The Dems don’t want the Trump Administration to have a good economy during this election cycle, and want confusion and chaos to reign so their Democrat Socialism can take over. Politicizing everything to get what they want. We have prayed that the eyes, and ears of all voters would be opened and they would see this too. Praying that wisdom and knowledge and understanding directs all leaders and voters to return the House and keep the Senate in conservative hands.
Our state is still being forced on lock down I along with hundreds if not thousands believe truly believe, this is scam using us and our economy to try and keep President Trump from being elected again. Fucci has been wrong on every level, Bill Gates with no medical experience wants to chip everyone so he can control us The Justice system meant to protect us is almost nonexistent. corruption is running rapidly though our great nation! Here is Houston, there are 1,000’s pf school children that are unaccounted for. Schools have not been able to reach the parents and these kids have not been doing the school packets. So in other words, there are children who haven’t been educated for almost 1/2 year. There is no way we can go back to total online learning. Maybe a combination. Maybe the need to hire more teachers and have smaller classes. Have morning and evening classes. Will need to have more buses if kids are to social distance from each other. Where is this money going to come from for all these changes.
I pray for the wisdom from KY Senator Paul to be considered carefully in Jesus Name.

I agree. Fauci is a fearmonger at the highest level. America has gone through other virus crises, had as many deaths, and yet not closed the country down. Other doctors have made videos concerning the virus and YouTube has taken them down. Where is freedom of speech??

Icelandic conclusions make sense to me. I was taught that the Thymus gland is very important in the immune system,having to do with the manufacture of the T-lymphocytes (warrior cells). Sadly, the Thymus begins to atrophy after puberty. The levels of thymic hormones decrease continuing downward lowest levels at 60 yoa and older. This seems to be borne out in the statistics of the ages most affected by this virus.
It seems we do not have to be frightened about starting schools in the Autumn. The other needs of children seem to be stronger than any risk to them.
I pray that fear will not rule in this and other decisions all across our nation
