SING HALLELUJAH TO THE LORD IS THE ANTHEM OF THE HONG KONG PROTESTS
There are two million people marching in the streets of Hong Kong these days, which is one-quarter of the population of the entire city-state that is China’s last bastion of freedom. This fabulous video from TeamBlackSheep shows you a little of what it’s been like.
Not only was a controversial law at stake that would have greatly impacted what little freedoms Hong Kong Chinese have these days, but the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen massacre was just two weeks ago.
What hasn’t been reported on by much of the international media in Hong Kong these days is how a song from the 1970s Jesus movement has become, for many, the anthem of the pro-democracy movement. Here’s a report from Shanghaiist.com that contains a bunch of videos of folks singing this hymn.
Are you ready to do something about the prevalent media bias? Pray with our Special Report Prayer Guide on the media:
Remember, English is not their first language, which makes it all the more compelling:
A hymn sung by Christian groups participating in the ongoing anti-extradition protests in Hong Kong has caught on and become the quasi anthem of the movement.
Composed in 1974, the song is sung in a minor key, and notable for its simplicity and catchiness due to its repeated harmonies of just one phrase.
Alarmed by reports of police brutality, many church groups galvanized to participate in peace protests, calling on the authorities to stop the violence.
Their presence on the front lines of the protests were helpful in making the demonstrations look more like an outdoor worship service rather than the “organized riots” the government said it had to crack down on to bring back law and order. . . .
It’s no huge secret that evangelical Christians are on the barricades for this event. Want some basic reporting on that? A May 30 Christianity Today piece tells us who all the major players are.
Also on May 30, the Wall Street Journal ran a guest editorial titled “Inside China’s War on Christians.” All this isn’t being done in a corner, folks. . . .
So why are so many media neglecting to even mention the Christian undercurrent of these protests?
Beats me. So, once again, it’s up to the religious advocacy media, like the Christian Post, to tell us what’s going on, which they’ve done well enough.
I wish someone (South China Morning Post, maybe?) who’s familiar with the church scene in Hong Kong would clue me in on how this golden chestnut of a hymn retained popular usage over 45 years. . . . (Excerpt from GetReligion.org, article by Julia Duin.)
Search YouTube for touching videos of Hong Kong protesters singing this praise chorus. For a great summary of what has been going on in Hong Kong, watch this CBN News video:

Holy, holy, holy are you Lord. We agree with our Christian Brethern in Hong Kong and ask your blessing, our Heavenly Father, on those who petition you to protect their democracy. We ask that China would lose all hold on Hong Kong’s freedoms, that those freedoms that have been lost would be restored. We ask that communisim in China would fail and that Christians there would be free to worship you. We especially ask that the law against praise music in China would be rescended. We pray for protection of those or your household Lord, who live under brutal tyrannical governments. Bless them Lord, and may you be glorified. In Jesus name, Amen
Scale the prayer ramparts, prayer warriors. Hong Kong Christians and protesters are showing great courage
against the tyranny of Communist China. Praise the Holy One! Work your wonders O Great God! Thank you being
in charge of all things.
This is global issue, once North Korea becomes Christian then Jesus can move into China, and Hong Kong can be free. In the USA free churches or non-state churches are persecuted by the lRS, pray for the free church in America so there can be a renaissance.
God of Light, Lord of Truth, Jesus Who has overcome the father of Lies, please teach Your people all over the world to stand against the Liar who spreads lies through the media, through indoctrination, through courts and through the wielders of worldly powers. Teach us to pray without ceasing, trusting in Your almighty power to restrain and nullify the works of the Evil One in this land. We strive with all the strength You have given us to resist and actively oppose the plots of those with darkened minds who seek to sow chaos in cities and nations worldwide. Instead, help us to sow the seeds of Truth, and promote the Hope of forgiveness for the sins of the past; let the light of Truth take root in many hearts, thus setting men free from the shackles of lies and liars who parade as officials, judges and rulers. Lord Jesus, let genuine knowledge and love for the Truth prevail in our hearts. Amen.
Thank you Heavenly Father for the Christians willing to stand for freedom. Fill them with your Holy Spirit to lead them peacefully. Open the eyes of the government to give them wisdom in leading this nation. May salvation come and revival take place in the powerful name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ . Let Your Kingdom come and your will be done here on earth as it is in Heaven Amen 🙏
Lord, May your will be done in Hong Kong as in Asia. In Jesus name, Amen.
Praise God and may we as a nation take note to the boldness and willingness to protect whatever rights the Chinese have even to death. May the God of all nations, the one supreme God protect the people from all harm and flood this nation with a great revival, that will spread throughout the world. Amen!!!
This is the persecuted church!
