Matthew 2:1-2 – The second candle of LIGHT reminds us of the star the Wise Men followed in order to worship the baby Jesus. (Isaiah 9:2; Matthew 5:14-16; John 1:1-9, 3:17-21, and 8:12; Revelation 3:20 and 17:14)

Devotion: With food and supplies, the Wise Men mounted camels and set out to follow the great and unusual light for which they had been watching. Arriving in Bethlehem, they found the baby Jesus and his mother Mary. They bowed down and worshipped Him, presenting Him with gifts of gold, incense, and myrrh. When the Wise Men were gone, an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and instructed him to flee to Egypt with Mary and Jesus. “Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to try to kill the child.” That same night they left for Egypt. Just as the light of the star guided the Wise Men and the words from God guided Joseph and his family to safety, Jesus guides us today.

Prayer: Father God, we give thanks that Jesus is the Light of our lives and of the world; help us to remove the distractions in our lives that block us from fully surrendered worship of You.
