PRAYING WITH ONE MIND
PRAYING WITH ONE MIND
Heaven is calling believers to a oneness of Spirit so rich and deep that our prayers and intercession will have immediate and profound results that can alter history forever.
This kind of intercession can only come through the Spirit as we aim to have not only the same mind, but one mind. The power of our prayers is only as strong as the agreement behind them, both with heaven and with each other. The Lord is urging us to participate with His Spirit in a bond of fellowship that is so deep we will actually think like one person ā and on the same things!
āSo, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.ā (Phil 2:1-2 ESV).
The Apostle Paul seems to repeat himself and yet the āsameā mind and āoneā mind mean two different things. The word for āsameā means being so closely linked, itās as if itās one person. The word for āoneā is speaking of the numeral ā1.ā It refers to the number one priority required for true unity. Not only should we think āalikeā but should have the same priorities that God does. Itās this kind of AGREEMENT among believers that the Lord is calling us to. Itās only when we agree in this kind of oneness of Spirit, that our prayers are backed with heavenās full authority.
The āparticipationā of the Spirit Paul was speaking of was not only referring to fellowship and communion, but is also described as āintercourseā in Strongās concordance! That is a deep-seated and intimate fellowship! And yet, think of the kind of spiritual authority that is available to us as a corporate Church if we but pursued this āone mindā! I believe itās THIS kind of oneness that has the potential to truly change things.
āIf you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciplesā (John 15:7-8).
Hurricane Irma drew believers into a level of prayer we havenāt experienced for a while as the corporate Church. The compassionate prayers of believers from all around the world went up to heaven, asking for mercy and intervention. Thankfully, we saw a positive impact from those prayers as the storm was much less catastrophic than expected. Even so, is it possible we could have actually stopped the storm altogether if we werenāt spending so much time trying to figure out WHY it was there in the first place! Was it Godās judgment? Signs of the end-times? The natural results of sin? What could happen if we were all convinced of the same truth at the same time? What kind of changes could be wrought with that kind of unity?
āTruly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, āāBe taken up and thrown into the sea,ā and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for himā (Mark 11:23).
I believe there are going to be increased opportunities in the near future to shift atmospheres and even change history IF we can come into true oneness of spirit and be of ONE MIND. This was the heart-cry of Jesus and is to the Fatherās glory!
āā¦that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent meā (John 15:21 ESV).
What will it take? We need to keep first things first. Rather than letting various theological interpretations and personal understandings become stumbling blocks in agreement, letās take the high road. Just as Paul exhorted us, letās purpose to be like-minded in the non-negotiables of our faith, empowered by a compassionate love for others, and seeking the Fatherās voice and the mind of Christ above all others.
There are already some āmountainsā calling our nameā¦
