PRAYER WORKS FOR THE MILITARY–AN ARMY GENERAL’S MEMORIAL OF MIRACLES
Having served in the Army for more than 32 years, as an enlisted man and as a chaplain, I can testify that prayer works for the military. I cover several reasons in my book Beyond Combat, based on my experience as a combat army chaplain in Vietnam.
Reason # 1: People get saved. The military is where I came to faith in Jesus Christ.
After finishing basic training in 1955, I met Chaplain Burt Hatch. I raised several spiritual questions—all of which he answered by simply taking me to the Bible. Eventually he asked me, “Have you ever personally placed your faith in Christ as your Savior?”
“What do you mean by faith?”
“Jim,” he said, taking a quarter from his pocket, “I’m going to give you this quarter. Do you believe me?”
“Yes, Sir,” I replied. “If you say you’ll give it to me, I believe you will.”
“But,” he continued, “how can you be sure I’ll give it to you?”
“Well, I guess I would have to take your word for it, Sir, and then reach out and take it.”
“Then do it!” he told me.
As I reached out to take the quarter he grasped my hand. “Jim, that is the hand of faith.”
I could have “believed” for a lifetime, but if I had never reached out to take the quarter, it would not have been mine. With a simple prayer, I asked Jesus Christ into my heart and life.

Reason # 2: Wounded soldiers are healed and preserved. As a chaplain in combat I was privileged to pray for and see God miraculously preserve and heal scores of wounded soldiers.
Lieutenant Pete Arnold was a platoon leader in Company A of the first Battalion of the 503rd of the 173d Airborne Brigade. I was moving with his unit when it made contact with an enemy unit three times its size. Lieutenant Arnold was seriously wounded with shrapnel lodged in his temple area. He was unconscious and death appeared imminent. Laying hands on him, I prayed in Jesus’ name, that God would heal him. God graciously answered.
Sergeant (E-6) Jose Martinez, in a similar encounter with the Viet Cong, suffered a “sucking chest wound.” He was unconscious and not expected to live. I ran along with the stretcher carrying him to the medical evacuation helicopter. I knelt to pray in his ear, asking God, in Jesus’ name, to miraculously restore him. Two weeks later I visited Sergeant Martinez in Saigon, alive and on the mend. He remembered my prayer for him.
Another time, my unit was in involved in one of the largest single engagements with the Viet Cong. After being ambushed, I joined three other soldiers to bring back a wounded soldier. All of us were wounded; one was killed. Unable to be medevaced until the next day, several of us spend the night praying for each other. Many of us experienced changed lives as God answered our prayers.
Reason # 3: The promises of Psalm 91 are based on the integrity of God Almighty. As a chaplain on a ship transporting my battalion to Viet Nam in 1965, I memorized Psalm 91 for myself and those soldiers entrusted to my spiritual care. It remains one of the most powerful statements of God’s promises especially for those in the military. I still recite it daily for me and my family.

I agree with all of the above prayers.
God of the universe, you who have a treasury of ammunition in the heavenlies, rain down snow, hail, and ice on all your enemies. We call forth righteousness, righteousness, righteousness, purity, purity, purity! Render your military(us) and them, invisible in the sight of the powers of darkness and we thank You Lord. Send forth the Lord of the Angel Armies (the heavenly host) to take care of business so that the harvest can all come in. We also lift up the IDF (Israeli Defence Force) and ask for the Fear of the Lord which is the beginning of Wisdom to be their portion, and Father in Jesus Name, for their protection. Thank you for the Chaplain whose faith was bigger than the circumstances.
Blessings and Shalom
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives so that we could have freedom. Lord I ask Your forgiveness for often taking freedom for granted. May Your hand of protection cover every man and woman who is serving our country and may You surround their families with comfort and peace. May each individual be drawn into a personal relationship with You daily.Lord I pray for revival in our military. Raise up Godly men and women who will share Jesus with their fellow soldiers. Grant them Your wisdom and surround them with angels of protection. You are the supreme Commander in Chief. To You be all glory!
AMEN
I pray for our military asking You Father to build a hedge around all of them giving each one of them protection and relating wisdom to them in each decision they must make. Do this for those who are standing by the stuff and those who are on the front lines in the air and upon the seas. Thank you Lord for caring for them. Just as you know where I am You know where each one of them are and their families back home. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
Dear Lord, we thank You for the military of the USA and for the high price they and their families pay in order to defend the free world. May God bless the USA and every one of the military personnell. In Jesus Name. Amen
I am currently reading Peggy Joyce Ruth’s book Psalm 91 God’s Shield of Protection. It is for military and really anyone. It is an encouragement for prayer and the power of God’s Word. Prayed in faith it builds up faith. Results increase faith to a higher level. So like how Papa grows us up. Our faith covenant with Father God is of more interest to him than our sin. This is because sin has already been covered by Jesus but our faith is our response action based on what Jesus did!
Father may your Word, Spirit, and the Blood of Jesus standby Those military personnel who are being deployed to guide, them with Faith, the presence of God, favor and peace of mind.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, you have been called to duty on our behalf to serve and defend our nation and our liberty. This body of Christ thanks you with heartfelt gratitude for your willingness to serve at this time. United with you in faith and in citizenship, we wish to enfold you in our love and surround you with prayer, blessing and the assurance of God’s presence as you go forth from this place to fulfill your call.
Lord of the nations and King of the universe, we give you profound thanks for all those who answer the call at this time to serve our nation and to defend and protect our way of life.
O Lord, Be present with and guide all our military personnel. Sharpen their skills. Make their judgments true. Give them those things necessary to achieve their goals and defend our cause.
Be present with those who serve, O Lord.
Give to each man and woman your special love, strength, wisdom and grace, that their fears may be laid aside, their faith fostered, their courage made sure, and their spirits comforted by the knowledge of your divine presence throughout their days.
Be present with those who serve, O Lord.
Guard and protect them from evil and the ways of darkness that threaten us. Send your holy angels to have charge over them and bear them up. Bring to us all the victory of light over darkness as you are the God of light and love.
Be present with those who serve, O Lord.
Above all, bless these men and women with a holy blessing that will sustain them in the face of whatever may come. Bless as well our nation, its leaders and its military services that truth, justice, and liberty may prevail and prosper by your aid. For you are the God of blessings and providence, the Source of all good, the Sustainer of our lives, and to you belongs all praise and glory, through your Son Jesus Christ, now and forever. Amen.
We stand pn the precious blood of Jesus.
Thank you for this powerful, heartfelt prayer. Praying in agreement and thanking God for all He has done and is going to do.
Thank you,Father, for the people in the military and their families who are willing to lay down their very lives to protect us. May your wisdom proceed them and your mighty angels have their backs. May you give our leaders clear, wise counsel to combat the strategy of the enemy. We will never forget the sacrifice our military makes.
Agree and Amen with all! I also ThankYou and the Holy Spirit for reminding me that we serve not onl the God who sees, loves, rescues, and restores But the God of Integrity! Beautiful!
From one of His soldiers in He fight!
