Silent night

My favorite Christmas Carol is O Holy Night. I first sang this carol when I was in sixth grade in a Christmas program at my public school. The words made an impression on me then, and still to this day, brings tears to my eyes.

this is my favorite also and I end up like you –in tears of worship and joy! It is the gospel story and in music it moves me. Yours was the first reply when I decided to add my vote:)
Merry Christmas. And more than ever we need to recognize “the thrill of hope”, we need to recognize who Jesus was and is and what the human race condition is and His power to change us and only by His grace can we. He reversed the curse . The invitation is there in the carol, “Come to Him …let not the Promised Son remain a stranger…make Christ your Adored…with grace and peace their lives He will adorn”…imagine the glorious message and we celebrate that ….all who have come..O Holy Night when Christ was born! Dear Jesus bring many this year around the world and look on our dear nation who is at war within–we need You more then ever. Enter in…let us truly “fall on our knees”

I love Silent Night because it was played by a music box attached to our families’ nativity when I was a child. I also love Joy To The World because of the line, “Let every heart prepare Him room…” I understand this Christmas carol was recently banned by some USA School District because it is too Christian. Makes me love it even more, and as a result we are singing and doing sign language to this Christmas carol on Christmas Eve with the children from our community in our AWANA program. PTL!!

O Holy Night is my favorite Christmas Carol. I love the line “He knows our need, to our weakness He’s no stranger…”. I think of how the Son of God was made incarnate and understands our human weakness.

I love all of them with Silent Night & The First Noel at the top of my list.
Thanks for asking.
Merry Christmas!

My favorite Christmas hymn is O Holy Night!

O holy night the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels’ voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine o night
O night divine

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels’ voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine o night
O night divine

This precious hymn reminds us of our lost condition without Jesus! And that our response must be to humbly fall on our knees before Him – in Awe! in Wonder! in Praise! in Thanksgiving!

A true gift at celebration of our Savior’s birth is Christian brothers and sisters sharing the Christmas
song that brings birth of our Savior closer to their heart. Thank you, Jesus, for the love and fellowship you brought at your coming as a Baby in a Manger so we would know YOU identify with every emotion (good/bad) your Sheep feel, and to clothes us in YOUR robe of righteousness so we can live with you eternally.

Earthly expression of amazement and worship of our Savior for me,for one is, the Hallelujah chorus in Handel’s Messiah. God bless us everyone!!

O Little Town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie……most definitely my favorite. I remember singing this as I sat near the Christmas tree, long ago….and reflecting on the love that God brought to us through His Savior, Christ the King!

My favorite Christmas song is Silent Night. Its simple lyrics describe the sacred moment on that night when God came to earth in the form of a tiny baby. The words “All is calm” brings the hope that in the midst of world of turmoil, Jesus was God’s answer of peace on earth. Pair it with a lit Advent candle and God’s glory fills our sanctuary every Christmas Eve and throughout the Christmas season giving us reason to hope in God’s plans for all of us.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing is my all time favorite. The melody is great and lively but the truth in lyric form is spot on biblically:
“Born to raise the sons of earth born to give them second birth”. Love this hymn from songwriters who definitely had a sound relationship with Christ the Lord.

Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel is a great one. Speaking about ransoming captive Israel! That can be applied personally too. One of the greats!

“What Child is This”

What child is this, who, laid to rest,
On Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The babe, the son of Mary.

…..
This, this is Crist the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The babe, the son of Mary.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel because it ties in Israel’s role in His coming and our redemption. I love Mary Did You Know as well. Profound truths in a tender song.

O Holy Night. The songs about what Christ came to do for us. The second verse says “ chains shall He break for the slave is our brother, and in His name all oppression shall cease.” Such a great song.

Must have TWO! O HOLY NIGHT and….JOY TO THE WORLD ..the English hymn writer, Isaac Watts, wrote the moving words of this beloved song – not as a Christmas carol, but rather as a hymn about Christ’s triumphant, glorious return and millennial reign at the end of the age! Listen to it carefully ….Sing it joyfully. He based his lyrics on Psalm 98 !

I love them all (including fun ones like Chipmunks Christmas Song (probably because it reminds me of my childhood in the 50’s and 60’s before God was spit in the Face by the un-Supreme Court and we still prayed and and celebrated Jesus’s birth at public school).
I guess I’d rank David Phelps’ O Holy Night #1 on my looooooong list of favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElJ0fiD0lkc

Handel’s “Messiah”! Not really a Christmas song, but I didn’t know it was a Christmas tradition [not only performances, but Sing-Alongs, until I went to one in Tulsa in 2010] Amazing! God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen : Lyrics

Play Music !

God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember, Christ, our Saviour
Was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan’s power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

In Bethlehem, in Israel,
This blessed Babe was born
And laid within a manger
Upon this blessed morn
The which His Mother Mary
Did nothing take in scorn
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

From God our Heavenly Father
A blessed Angel came;
And unto certain Shepherds
Brought tidings of the same:
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by Name.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

“Fear not then,” said the Angel,
“Let nothing you affright,
This day is born a Saviour
Of a pure Virgin bright,
To free all those who trust in Him
From Satan’s power and might.”
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

The shepherds at those tidings
Rejoiced much in mind,
And left their flocks a-feeding
In tempest, storm and wind:
And went to Bethlehem straightway
The Son of God to find.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

And when they came to Bethlehem
Where our dear Saviour lay,
They found Him in a manger,
Where oxen feed on hay;
His Mother Mary kneeling down,
Unto the Lord did pray.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

Now to the Lord sing praises,
All you within this place,
And with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace;
This holy tide of Christmas
All other doth deface.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

O Come All Ye Faithful is my favorite and I have fond memories of singing as a child. It also is about Christ and not about Santa.
