I Prayed have prayed
Father God, thank You for the amazing way You work through Your Body on earth. Give us more of a passion to pray for the persecuted Church. And direct and guide Andrew and Norine Brunson.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Last week, IFA staff and intercessors who were part of our Capital Prayer Encounter were blessed to hear Andrew and Norine Brunson share the story of his imprisonment and release at two National Day of Prayer events in Washington, DC. (Tracey DeBlank, Judy McDonough, and Kris Kubal are pictured with Pastor Brunson.)

Although Pastor Brunson anticipated praising God and experiencing spiritual highs during his two-year imprisonment, the reality was very different. He shared that he struggled throughout the time he was imprisoned. He said that he would work to accept his situation and something worse would happen, over and over.

He emphasized his dependence on our prayers. Norine was permitted to visit him once each week. They would speak on a phone with a thick glass separating them. The first question he asked her, week after week, was “Are people still praying for me?” He said that he knew that people tend to move on to the next crisis and he worried about when Christians would move on to pray for someone else. He was visibly overcome when most of the crowd of several hundred raised their hands when asked, “Have you prayed for Andrew?”

It is so important to pray for the persecuted church! Pray in agreement with the millions who took part in the National Observance of the National Day of Prayer:

“Father, in the silence, in many prisons in dark and damp places, there are those in the quietness of their soul crying out to you tonight. Lord, may we become their voices. May we stand with them in solidarity and love. May we see our brothers and sisters. Though we may not be able to touch them, may we be touched by them. Father, we thank you that you hear our prayers, and Lord, even tonight we rejoice that when we pray in agreement — and we reach heaven with our voices — that Lord you… always hear. Often you’ll give us the request we want, like Andrew being returned home. But Father, I pray that none — none — would believe or feel or think they are forgotten. May we never, ever forget our brothers and sisters.”

“And Father, where we cannot reach and where we cannot see, I pray the Holy Spirit would go and stir within them, as Paul said, ‘But we have this treasure in earthen vessels — that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed — always carrying out in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus. That the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. Father, tonight, may the persecuted — in places near and far away — know that they are not forsaken, nor forgotten. Burden our hearts that we would continually lift them up before you and equip our hands to courageously help them. In Jesus’s name, Amen.” (Prayer offered by Tony Perkins, Family Research Council.)

For continued intercession, Pastor Brunson asked us to pray that God would direct him and Norine about what’s next for them. Please pray for guidance and direction for the Brunsons.

Pastor Brunson, you have been especially close to our hearts as you live less than 60 miles from us here in Moravian Falls. Also, we are close to people in Greensboro, NC who spread the word, provided updates and never let the lampstand burn out in prayer for you.

We prayed and were burdened for you and your family during your entire imprisonment. With prayers and tears for your release and huge praise and tears of rejoicing when you were released, we send love and encouragement and pray for healing of the trauma in your life that you experienced. No one really knows how you suffered except our Lord and He keeps excellent records and rewards far better than we can know. He has a plan of rest for you, healing for you and then an excellent path for you to run, but in that order. Blessings and provision for you and your family.

Thank You Lord God for answering our prayers on behalf of Pastor Brunson and his family. You are a faithful Father that hears the prayers of Your children. I pray along with thousands of others on behalf of all who are in prison for the sake of the Gospel, give them peace, let the joy of our Christ fill their spirits and hearts. May the Song of Salvation permeate their being each day in the Mighty Name of Our Christ, Amen!

Thank You Heavenly Father for setting Pastor Brunson free from prison. Thank You that he is home with his family again. Guide him and his wife in the next steps You have for them.
Also, Father, there are so many more who are suffering from imprisonment in other countries. Father, hear their prayers and set them free, too. So many are abused, starved, beaten. Father, our hearts and minds can not comprehend what they have had to endure. Please set them free and heal their minds and bodies. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen

Pastor Brunson, my husband and I prayed for you daily during your imprisonment. Your name is on a list in the front page of my Bible!
I am so grateful God sustained you even in the most dangerous and discouraging times. I pray for direction for the “ next thing” He has planned for your life.
May you continue to be an overcomer by the word of your testimony and the blood of the Lamb of God!
Shalom my brother and sister Noreen, too!

Pastor Brunson’s story still touches me. The Holy Spirit had countless in the body praying for him and his family. May God speak so clearly to him and Norine and give them both agreement for where you are leading them. I am also from North Carolina and so feel even more drawn to pray. Your story should be a continual reminder to us in the body to send encouragement to any captives, literally or in mind and spirit.I do not know if you have a speaking tour planned, a book or other ways to share your powerful on-going story but it would wake up a sometime sleeping church !
Thank you Brunson’s for being a witness for Yeshua. He is coming soon!! <
