The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. (1 John 3:8)

Through the power of Christ’s death, resurrection, and victory over death, the devil has been forever condemned (John 16:11). Though he still roams the earth seeking whom he may devour, his time is short. A day is coming when this accuser and rebel will pay for his crimes and be thrown into the lake of fire for all eternity (Rev 20:10).

Until that time, Jesus has given us, as believers and co-heirs with Christ, the authority to destroy any and all of his works. Any scheme or plan that is formed to steal our blessings, kill our faith, or destroy our testimony, can be nullified through the blood of Christ (John 10:10). This is the right we have been given to be overcomers and vessels of His resurrection power.

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. (Luke 10:19)

A common practice in intercessory circles is to “bind the devil” when being attacked or threatened, based on Matthew 16:19: “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” However, the verbal forms “shall be bound” and “shall be loosed,” in the Greek New Testament, are perfect tense, passive voice participles. The perfect tense suggests that the binding and loosing has already occurred, and the effects of that action should remain. That means our prayers should reflect that which has already been bound in heaven. When God has bound something in heaven, we agree in our prayers and that reality will be seen in the earth. If God has not already bound something in heaven, we cannot bind it on the earth.

The unfortunate reality is that the devil is still loose on the earth. Though he has been condemned and sentenced to an eternity in the lake of fire, the Righteous Judge has not ordered him there, yet. Technically speaking, we cannot “bind” the devil – because God hasn’t. That sentence will be carried out at the final judgment by the Judge Himself. However, we have been given the right and authority to bind every one of his works of destruction and deceit. Every manifestation of his dark agenda can be overturned and rendered powerless because of our authority as Kingdom ambassadors. Praise God!

He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him. (Colossians 2:15)

As we intercede for this nation, we can use our God-given authority to renounce any and all of the devil’s works. As we see spirits of Deception, Greed, Control, and Corruption wreak havoc within our government, we can stand on God’s Word to displace these forces of spiritual wickedness and announce the coming of God’s government and rule. We can bind those spirits of darkness and loose, in their place, God’s righteous rule, holy governance, and godly order.

Satan may still be going “to and fro” on the earth (Job 1:7; 1 Peter 5:8) but Christ has given us the authority to resist him and defeat his plans. Our targeted prayers pierce his lies and demolish his plans when we aim God’s Word at his works (Hebrews 4:12).

Father, we thank You for defeating our Adversary through the cross and triumphing over his deeds through Your resurrection. We thank You that his eternal destiny has already been determined and will be carried out at the appointed time. Until then, we ask that You would highlight any and all of his works that are manifesting in the earth so that we can nullify their effects and declare Kingdom order into the atmosphere. We agree with heaven that the works of Greed, Manipulation, Control, Corruption, Double-mindedness, Pride, and Deceit, are powerless to defeat Your plans and purposes in our nation. We declare those works dead, useless, without power, and without substance. We announce that Your Kingdom is here and that YOUR WORKS will be clearly manifested and demonstrated in the governmental realm so that all may see You as Lord of all. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
