The body of Christ has a little-known supernatural weapon in the war for our nation, but we rarely use it. If the prayer warriors of America get this revelation, we have a chance to unlock a new level of the Kingdom of God in our country.

I think we would all agree our nation is full of the Enemy’s strongholds. The question is, how do we penetrate those strongholds to tear them down?

Weapons of our Warfare

In spiritual warfare, some weapons are personal and some are for the nation as a whole. Sometimes, we must anoint our home with oil and other times we must anoint the steps of the Supreme Court, as many intercessors in my city have done.

Sometimes we lay hands on family to agree with them in spiritual warfare against the enemy, and sometimes we lay hands on the Capitol building itself, as I have done many times, to wage warfare in prayer.

However, there is a lesser-known form of spiritual warfare that is particularly useful when fighting for the soul, and government, of our nation.

Open Doors

When God wants to penetrate a dark system to bring in light, He opens doors for His people, His plans, and His resources to bring the light in.

King David understood the principle of Open Doors. Remember, he was once just an assistant to King Saul brought in to play the harp, but God’s favor, gifting, and anointing on him opened the door for him to work as a harpist for the king.

Maybe that is why the Proverb says:

Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank. (Prv 22:29)

God opened a door for David to work for the King and eventually to become King himself, bringing in a resurgence of prosperity for Israel.

That same Open Door principle of the Holy Spirit is particularly important when influencing the nation today. Jesus made clear that we have authority to partner with Him in this process. He is the God of Open Doors.

I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. (Is 22:22)

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. (Mt 16:9)

We serve a God who has given his Church the authority to access and to deny access, to open doors He wants opened and to close doors He wants closed, to use the Keys of the Kingdom to allow in and to kick out, according to His will.

You may be thinking, Ok, but how does this work?

Normally I interview a source within Washington for my articles, but this week my own personal journey gives a great example of how God answers the prayer for Open Doors.

Shortly after moving to D.C., I began looking for a job as a reporter. One evening in the fall of 2014, I jogged through the rain to a job fair. Soaked to the bone, I walked in and talked with the various employers until meeting someone from the Daily Caller, a national news site co-founded by Tucker Carlson.

They invited me to an interview.

My interview went well, but I received some discouraging news. They said I would have to interview with Tucker before getting an offer, and he was gone. It may be days or longer before I could get time with him.

But God had other plans.

I left the interview and got into the building’s elevator. Of all the people in the world, none other than Tucker Carlson was already in the elevator.

What a “coincidence.”

“I’m supposed to be meeting with you,” I told him.

“Really?” he said, “Where are you going now?”

Long story short, I hopped in a cab with Tucker. He was on his way to Fox for an interview. We talked about my upbringing, journalism, and the state of the nation. We had a great time.

He paid for the cab and my way home.

Later that day, I received an email with my first job offer in D.C., the beginning of a career that would allow me to meet, pray for, and influence people in the White House, Congress, and throughout the media.

My story may seem unusual, but it is like so many other Christians who have come to the nation’s capital on assignment. God opened that door with Tucker, and so many more since then, that have placed me in different high places where I could represent the will of God to those in power.

We must pray then for those same Open Doors, those “coincidences” and favorable circumstances that move God’s people forward in D.C. Pray for Open Doors for Christians in Capitol Hill, the White House, the federal government, the lobbying groups, and media in all forms.

Those open doors are a form of spiritual warfare that the Enemy hates. When God opens a door, no man can shut it. And once God puts His people into the right places — like Esther, Daniel, and Joseph — they can establish His Kingdom in our nation.

Jesus gave the Church the authority to Open Doors to the most hard to reach places, even the White House, Congress, and the Supreme Court. I think we all know, our nation desperately needs it.

So let’s use what God gave us!

Step into your authority.

Prayer Points:

-Lord, we pray that You would open the door to the right Kingdom staffers, federal appointees, committee members, lobbyists, advocates, meetings, spiritual advisors and all whom You have sent on assignment to influence our nation for good.

-Lord, we pray that You close every door to the Enemy and anyone who seeks to bring harm to this nation in the White House, Congress, the federal government, the media or any other place of influence.

-Lord, we pray that You give Your Kingdom-minded Christians in Washington, D.C. the spiritual sight to see what doors you are opening for them and the courage to walk through them.
